Chevrolet - 1500 :: Distinct Clunk Comes From Rear Passenger Tire After A Complete Stop
Dec 2, 2012
I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado. After a complete stop a distinct "clunk" comes from the rear passenger tire. It's not heard or felt every time maybe 70%. I've raised the rear end and spun both tires to check for a sticking caliper. I haven't removed the tire. Brake fluid is full and in good shape.

What are the symptoms of a worn motor or transmission mount? I feel a distinct clunk when I place the car in Drive or Reverse from idle. I did not notice any problem when I bought the car few weeks ago. Before spending 300+ I checked for the problem one more time. The problem is that the clunk was all but gone. An intermittent clunk! What gives? The car is an '05 Malibu w/4cyl, 119k. The former owner had the transmission fluid changed at 94k.

Have an 06 F250. When I slow down to make a turn then accelerate it's like the drive shaft spins half a turn before it catches. Been doing it for awhile now. Now I'm get a clunk when I come to a complete stop. When you stop then truck settles there is a little clunk. Does this sound like the slip yoke problem?

I wanted to pass along the results of a brake issue I encountered in my 2010 Prius (15K miles) and report to interested Prius owners how the issue was resolved.
Problem: In the last second (or so) coming to a complete stop I noticed a few light clunk type sounds, like something was loose up front. I never experienced any degradation in the braking performance.

I have a 2006 Chevy 1500 Silverado. The driver side front tire is making a grinding and clunking noise. It started yesterday afternoon and has gotten worse. When making a left turn there is a grinding/rubbing noise. When I go over a bump, rough gravel, or pot hole a horrible clunking comes from this tire. I haven't taken to a repair shop yet.

2001 Chevy Silverado, 2wd, 5.3 engine, 232,000 miles, front hubs with integral sensors replaced about 20,000 miles ago. Now when I brake, and just before coming to a complete stop, the ABS kicks in. Doesn't happen if I brake hard. If I let up on the brake momentarily, it stops and the rest of the stop is smooth.
Sometimes the brake and ABS lights come on, but when I had the OBD hooked up, there were no stored codes, and the brake and ABS lights go off once you turn the ignition off and then restart the engine. I suspect the problem is with the sensors for the rear wheels, but don't know where they are located.
There are no wires going to the rear wheels or the axle. Tried pulling the fuse for the ABS system, but that makes the brake and ABS lights stay on constantly.

2001 Chevy Silverado, 1500 4wd. 135k miles. Front passenger wheel squeaks when rolled forward or back. Checked brakes and they are fine. While I had it apart, I could hear the squeak which sounded inside. I don't know the terminology, but there is a bar between two rubber boots. The squeak sounded as if it was coming from the boot near the center of the truck where there are four bolts.

The vehicle: 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 w/ Z71.
The problem: Steerage issue. No problem exhibited while driving. However, at stop or very slow there is a loss of power steering but only when turning the wheels right. There is also an audible sound when turning to the right. Kind of a whooshing or air expulsion?

For the first time today, the passenger front tire resisted being turned. It was hard to turn. What might the problem be?

I have had an issue with a clunk in the rear end. Passenger side. It was only happening when I would hit a bump. Over the last couple days it has started getting worse. At about 40 mph and above the clunking will increase and can be fairly rapid. Also have a slight vibration at that speed. Do not feel it in the steering wheel.
I think I have narrowed it down to the rear knuckle? bushing. While holding onto the bushing I rocked the top of the tire in and out to produce the clunk. I could feel it in that spot. I had ordered a set of bushings, months ago, which claimed to be a direct replacement.
Tonight I decided to try and swap them out. Should be easy. Nope. The old bushing will not come out. I have some pictures. Maybe I need to call my mechanic in the morning? My diagnosis might be wrong anyway?

I've been having a *clunk* noise on the rear, passenger side. Its been there when I had stock springs and still there with Eibach springs. The rear has being inspected by 2 mechanics; my friend who has a shop and the guys at Lextech in SoCal; Nothing was loose and everything seemed fine.
I hear a *clunk* noise when I brake (not all the time)
I hear a *clunk, clunk, clunk...* when the car is moving at maybe 5mph and goes away when I start going faster.
There's no noise over bumps.
Noise is there regardless if I am driving on a shitty road or not.
I regressed the caliper pins, thinking that was my problem. What to check or what the Celica is known to be notorious at.

I was driving home today from work and everything seemed to be going well until I approached a bump a few blocks from my house. I was literally driving 3mph over the speed bump. When my read was coming down the speed bump I heard a loud metal clunk come from the rear. I tried looking underneath the car with a flashlight but no success. It's not a constant clunk. Only when I go over a speed bump and certain cracks or potholes in the street.

I have a 1999 Pontiac sunfire. It had just over 85,200 miles. I took it in to have an oil change and the front passenger tire changed. I didn't notice it till the next day. My odometer stop displaying. What could have happened to it? How can I fix it?

Pulled off of the freeway on my way home from a superbowl party and felt some vibrating coming from my rear passenger tire. It's snowing pretty heavily here in the Minneapolis area so I thought it was just snow packed into my rim throwing off the balance. I pull into my driveway and go to look at it and find it flat. TPS indicator light never came on.
Long story short, I'm taking the car in to a dealership in the morning to get a new tire, since it will be covered by my wheel tire protection plan that I got when I bought the car. Also will want them to take test my TPS and fix it when they see it doesn't work.

So I know the 2013 GS (or many GS in general) have had complaints of squeaks and rattles. My GS has a couple but are very minor and only occasional.
I do have one noise that seems unusual though. When I am driving and drive over moderate bumps in the road, I hear a muffled clunk or thunk type of noise only from the rear passenger area and never anywhere else.
My car is a stock CPO 2013 F sport and not lowered or anything. Stock rims and tires. The shock does not seem to be leaking.
The noise happens regardless of if I am in regular or sport+ modes. Was going to mention it to the dealer at my next oil change and door trim replacement appointment I need to make Ina couple months.

I bought a 99 Mazda Protege ES two years ago. About eight months ago, i noticed that my rear passenger tire seemed very low. Not flat, but very very low. I filled it back up to 32psi, as recommended in the owner's manual. Then in June, it seemed low again. I bought a pressure gauge, checked all my tires and filled up the one that was low (14psi). Throughout the summer and early fall, I would check my tires once a month and the rear passenger tire would always need air. Now it is the end of October and I've had to fill the tire up three times in the past month.
Obviously, I need a new tire. My question is: is there a viable way to fix a slow-leaking tire? Or do a need to buy a new one? Also, can I just buy one tire?

I'm 650 miles from home in WV and the truck overheated and I saw coolant leaking from the area above the passenger side rear tire.

Very weird indeed...our 20th AE sometimes will give off this very light horn noise that appears to be coming from the passenger rear tire area...I looked around and couldn't find anything..
The noise is very faint, and repeats in a beep, beep, beep and the longer it goes on, the more space between beeps....very weird.
