I have a 1993 Cadillac STS which I just purchased with low miles and clean carfax. Local car. Everything works like a dream and drives beautiful. All of the sudden it just shuts off ()Northstar engine() and I have to place it in park and start it again. It usually just happens on slow traffic. No engine service light so I can't get the auto shop to get me an error code. What it might be?

First, sometimes the engine began shuts off. When the drive up to the traffic lights. When sharply throw gas pedal. When the engine speed is less than 2000. If you release the gas pedal, you will see that the tachometer needle drops below 500 rpm and the engine stalls. This happened happened two or three days all right. And sometimes a day, 3-4 times shuts off. Then ringing under the hood.
Was the flywheel. I remove the transmission and replace the flywheel. More repair parking brake pedal. So it turns analyzed under the panel. I have a new problem. After repair. I driving my Dodge week. And once. After an overnight stay the machine, on morning the engine not start. I checked the spark. The spark is. I removed the fuel hose. and there is no pressure. Just a little bit of fuel.
I decided that this is the fuel pump. I took off his tank, bought a new fuel pump. The pump has not changed. Today I decided to apply voltage to the old pump, it still stands in the tank. It works. Buzzing. Then I decided to check the voltage on the connector. I turned on the ignition. The instrument appears briefly on 12 volts. They are only momentary. Now I think there should always be 12 volts? Fuel tank removed. All hoses are disconnected. Not really the problem in the fuel pump? How to troubleshoot? Where can I get the wiring diagram?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 F350 6.0L Diesel with about 72,000 miles on it. It has been the best truck ever, but just about two weeks ago it started doing something real strange. While driving, and it seems to only be at slow speeds, (idle or just accelerating), the truck will shut off the engine. And it is always in this order, it will first "pop" all the speakers real loud, then the radio will reset, (go to the AM radio and shuffle through my 6 disc changer) and then the engine will shut off.
Once I bring the truck to a stop and put it into park, it will then start back up with no problems at all. There is nothing I can seem to piece together as to when it will do it other then it seems to only be at slow speeds... Besides that, it is completely random. One day it did it four times, and then it didn't do it for the next few days at all... The only thing that has changed over last 2 weeks is that, the last few times that it has done it, it didn't kill the engine, it still popped the speakers like normal and then reset the radio, but didn't shut off the engine.
I have a 2007 Nissan murano so and the past 2 days while in traffic in my way home his happens: All the lights go on (oil, engine, brake, ect). Cannot push gas or brake and steering wheel is very tight. I was able to shut the car off and turn it back on within a minute the engine turned and I was back as normal- now the service engine light is on. I recently had an oil change and they reconnect a loose cable to my battery. I was able to drive to work this morning but again, the service light is on now.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2012 Prius. It has twice shut down spontaneously when idling while in traffic. I have explained this, the Service Advisor said he had never heard of it. My question is: why is this happening? The car has been properly serviced. It never happened with my 2006 Prius.

My check engine light has been on for quite some time, but I never had problems with the car besides it making a loud roaring sound which diminished once I got new tires. A couple months back, I noticed my car would shut off when I put it in reverse after driving for some time. This only happened maybe three times. Very rarely. Later, all the lights on my car would come on randomly and turn off. This usually happened when I was going over bumps or making sharp turns. However, I did notice it seemed to only occur during the cold weather.
I have had my car parked for almost a month and a half as I was getting it painted. Last week I started back driving it with no problems. However, today, while being in heavy traffic (for over an hour), the car started slightly jerking and then shut off when I came to a complete stop. I turned the car off and turned it back on and it cranked and drove without problem. Every time I came to a complete stop it would shut off again. This was early in the morning (with maybe 40 degree weather). I changed both air filters two months ago.
I recently had 2 coils replaces and 4 spark plugs (CODES SHOWING ACCORDING TO GOODYEAR) replaced because the engine light was ON. Now My car intermittently shuts off without warning, but will restart about 1 or 2 minutes later showing CHECK GAS CAP on dashboard. Went back to Goodyear thinking maybe faulty parts. They ask if any lights are on like the check engine light, they tell me if not they don't know, come back if it continues. I thought maybe it's my battery.
The guys at Battery Bills connected a devise to the battery that shows green if it's charged, YELLOW if it needs to be driven more(or issue) RED(not enough power PROBLEM) and I when back to them yesterday and they rechecked...Battery is fully charged. They said the alternator is good also, I'm not too sure they checked.Later after work I fuel up a the Chevron instead of Costco thinking maybe the gas??? My car starts then dies, the battery signal device is showing red.
I get a jump, the second the cables are connected to my battery the device shows green, my car starts right up. Pull out to the traffic light, car shuts off, but restarts. I was told to drive my car at least 30 minutes away from home and back about once a week, to keep battery charged because I live less than 10 minutes away from wherever I drive to....so I DRIVE about 5 minutes in my car starts to stutter(hesitate) twice, but smooths out and I also notice the RPM gauge is showing 0???? NO ERROR LIGHTS or CHECK ENGINE ARE SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD so I continue home at a lost. My car is a 2010 Accent with 57,100 miles....
I have a 2012 GTI Autobahn, w/automatic, bought it w 7k miles on it and it was chipped. It runs great and is crazy fast. But, it has a lag in acceleration SOMETIMES when moving and coasting slow in traffic and then pouncing on the accelerator to change lanes, the accelerator is flat like its not getting fuel. It wouldn't do it when the dealer mechanic drove it.

Last weekend while driving around a parking lot it stuttered again only this time it felt like someone was jerking my car back and forth. I used to chalk it up to being normal, but this can't be normal. I don't like my local dealership, so I'm trying to avoid them if I can.
View 6 RepliesMy 2004 Accent GLS has stalled intermittently for me and my daughter several times. However, the mechanics cannot replicate the problem and it is not revealing any codes when analyzed. Additional details would include the fact that the stalling incidents have occurred while sitting in slow traffic or when slowing when approaching an intersection. After it stalls, 3 of the 4 times it started again within 10 minutes.
This last time, it took several hours before we were able to restart it. There is no fuel smell when restarting. The check engine light is not on. The problem actually began as a "failure to start" problem, which I thought could have been a faulty battery as, even though the engine was turning over and I didn't really suspect the battery, it would start when jumped. The problem then moved to a stalling problem.
So far, I've replaced a battery (probably a waste), the mechanic found some frayed wires coming from the ignition which he fixed and I'm now having them replace the crank sensor. Does replacing this sensor, though no code is apparent, on the right track? Should I be focused elsewhere? Is there a common 2004 Accent problem? It's my daughter's first car and only has 67,000 miles on it, so I'm in no hurry to get a new car!
Okay, admittedly my car isn't top of the line. But I'd rather keep it. It all started one day getting stuck in traffic. Some kid claims something broke, causing him to serve in front of a bus bus and sending the bus into a creek. Luckily, all the kids had been dropped off, and the driver wasn't hurt. In my angrier moments, I figure the kid was texting but have no proof. I was stuck in traffic for 90 minutes, and within sight of getting out of the traffic mess, there was a loud bang and it overheats. Off to the side of the road, call the wife, she picks me up. Take it to the local shop, which replaces the Radiator and the Thermostat.
From then on, if I get stuck in slow traffic or at stop lights, it heats up quick. The dash temperature gauge has the word "NORMAL" spelled vertically. After a few traffic lights, the pointer is at the O or even the N. Before the next incident (below), running too hot would cause difficulty starting unless I pumped the gas pedal, or let it cool down for awhile.
Another incident: a rather sudden loss of power driving. The mechanic claims that the catalytic converters are clogged (the car has two). He opens up one of them, "unclogs" it. This didn't solve the problem. It did seem to clear up the starting problem. There's plenty of coolant in the reservoir.
About once each summer on a hot day, my Cadillac Catera won't restart until it cools for 15-20 minutes. I turn the key and the dash idiot lights come on but the starter does nothing. It only happens rarely and only on a hot day.

My mechanic friend checked it and found a lean combustion condition. What could be causing this issue and what can I do about it. This yellow service engine soon light is driving my nuts!!!

View 2 RepliesRecently my check engine light came on on my 98 Cadillac Deville. I went to Autozone and got a free engine diagnostic and was given a printout of a bunch of stuff I did not understand, the technician told me it was just an issue with the light, and it could be fixed with unhooking the black end of my battery for 10m. Just a little bit ago, i popped the hood, and touched the black end of the battery to see how i could unplug it. When i touched it I heard a click and now there is no power to my car. Every time i jiggle the negative end I hear a click from the right side of the engine and nothing happens. I did not even unhook the battery.

View 2 RepliesI have a 92 Deville. I drove a pretty good distance today and on the way home stopped at the store and left the car on in the parking lot. I got in and the engine died as I tried to pull out of the lot. When I try to start the car all the lights come on but nothing happens, no clicks or anything. Lights don't even go dim. Could this be the alternator? I know that the starter suddenly dying won't cut off the engine like that. Everything seemed fine before idk what gave out?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2003 Cadillac Deville with about 120,000 miles on it. The SES light came on and I had some maintenance done at STS. The light came back on the night I picked it up. I took it back the next day, they said it was related to the transmission and they do not do transmission repairs. They cleared the light and said if it came back on they could flush the transmission and maybe that would take care of the problem or they suggested I should take it to a transmission repair shop. The error codes are p0741 & p1860. Once in a while at the beginning of a drive I experience a sluggish acceleration, it does not last long( a second or 2) and then runs fine for the remainder of the drive.

View 4 RepliesMy car is idling rough and the Service Engine light blinks on/off continuously. I ran the codes and they are P0301, P0401 and P1258. What this could be? I changed the plugs, wires and ignition coils about a year ago. Catalytic converter was replaced around the same time but the O2 sensors hasn't been changed. Could that be the cause?
