View 2 RepliesQuestion regarding a 89 Cadillac Eldorado 4.5 V8 FWD, Transmission - 260,000 miles on car, runs great. Last couple of months, I have noticed that it will only shift into Over Drive when the car is cold, sat overnight. It will shift 4 or 5 times into Over Drive no problem. When car warms up, then it will not shift into Over Drive ever again, and I will get a 39 error code. Are there solenoids that I can replace, if so where are they? I'm not sure where to start with this problem?
View 6 Replieswhile driving the temp. is at 159 but when parked it climbs to 210 quickly. it also is not building pressure in the radiator & there is no coolant circulating thru radiator even when gauge is showing hot.
View 6 RepliesWe have a 2002 Cadillac Eldorado that started filling up with water. There is literally inches of standing water on the floor, condensation on all the windows, and all the upholstery is soggy. I've vacuumed it out and left the doors open to try to aid in airing/drying it out, but when I go back in an hour the water has accumulated on the floor again.
My husband drilled a few holes in the floor to allow the water to drain out, and we removed the back seat to see if we could find where the water was coming from. The water accumulates in the seat compartment where the seat was removed, and though the holes in the floor drain the water somewhat, it still collects there. Now there is mold/mildew starting to develop and I've used a bleach water solution to try to arrest that, but I'm really getting sick of dealing with this car.
He says we can't sell it until we get another 8000 miles out of it, but we can't drive it when it's all wet like this, and he doesn't want to put any more money into it--
96 Eldorado Code 502 (speed sensor fault).. Speedometer not working and vehicle running in low range.. I replaced the speed sensor on the right side transaxle. No change, what else can I try?
View 1 RepliesThe check coolant message comes on my message center on my 2002 Caddy Deville. I have checked this and there is plenty of coolant. Can this be repaired without removing and installing a new coolant overflow tank?
View 4 RepliesRecently my 2003 Cadillac CTS has been leaking coolant at a faster pace than I could ignore. After noticing smoke barreling from under my hood, I decided to research the problem and attempt a DIY repair job by replacing the auxiliary coolant pump. After purchasing the part online and reviewing any forums I could find, I was determined to prove the naysayers wrong by undertaking the task over a free weekend. After a couple of hours I soon realized that this was a two man job. Still alone at the 4 hour mark, I was almost resigned to having it towed to a mechanic with all sorts of wire connections still unplugged. Resigning to give it one more college try I tempted the father-in-law over with the promise of all the beer he could drink. After another 4 & 1/2 hours 'without draining the coolant beforehand :)' we had successfully accomplished the mission (almost) impossible. So all in all, this chump (myself) spent almost 9 hours to perform this complex vehicular operation. My question is, for this part (an aux. coolant pump) how long would a certified, classically trained mechanic take to make the repair?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 Cadillac CTS with a 2.8 V-6. I have changed the Mobil One oil when ever the oil life has hit 50% since the car was new. I have 122,000 miles on the car now. In just the past few months I have noticed the coolant level going down at a rate of about 1/4 inch ever week with no visible signs of any leaks. I have pressured tested the radiator and the test comes back with no pressure loss. I also am losing about a 1/3 to a 1/2 quart of oil ever week with no signs of any leaks or smoke out of the exhaust pipe. I drive about 600 miles a week. My son is a tech at the local Chevrolet dealer. He has looked over the car and can find no visible cause for the fluid loss.

View 6 RepliesAlways regretted selling my 1988 ford diesel. It was a stick shift 4x regs cab. Very fun to drive. But I was a kid so when it developed a tranny noise I panicked and sold it. So, I bought a pile of crap in the form of a 2004 super dooty. It's a long bed ex cab, but had a stick shift!
It's got 330k on the clock, spicer rear end, and the famed 6.0. It's 4x4.. The truck isn't running and has a laundry list of engine issues including coolant blowing out under acceleration, hpop failing, weak injectors, oil leaks.
Compression is claimed to be good, but I'm thinking it would be easier and cheaper to fix up a used engine and swap it in. I'm open to other engines too, so I'd love to hear about options for that.
My research indicates that the 6.0 can be made to work well. For the money I have into the truck there is some room to invest in the engine. I have a line on a lo mile used 2006 6.0 engine. I've been told that the later years like 06 were less prone to some of the issues. Would this engine require head studs/gaskets and hpop fixes?
I'd be doing an egr delete for sure. And a coolant filter setup which is a new concept to me. What else would need to be done to bolster this engine? Turbos okay in these? I saw my friends ford burn to the ground from a cracked turbo. Or, should I put a gas engine in?
Okay, the vehicle is a 1988 E250 ClubWagon 7.3 IDI diesel with front and rear AC/heat. I have 3 questions for you:
1. I found that the rear heater core is getting coolant flow constantly which is making my rear AC blow 75* air. These models don't have a blend door in the back, they appear to have a valve that is only allows coolant flow to the rear heater core when the heat is turned on. Problem is that I can't seem to find where this valve is located on the van or what it is called to locate it at a parts store. Where on my van this valve is located?
2. My rear blower only functions on High. I know there is a resistor set up in the rear that controls the blower speed. Before I just replace this, is there a way that I can test it?
3. Is it possible that the Resistor setup for the rear fan speed would also be causing the rear coolant flow valve to not work? I know it's a long shot, but does the valve signal flow through it when the AC is on to tell the coolant valve to shut?
92 Honda Civic, it has been steaming under the hood when i drive it and it's going into the overflow tank. When I pull the cap off after it's cooled down and then refill it. I watch to see if it's flowing and it's not. My initial thought was maybe a bad water pump, however I spoke with someone today that said it could very well be the head gasket. I am tending to lean this way now as well, as there is fluid on the ground after I park it. I put down some cardboard so the next time I drive it, I can see where it's coming from... Before I spend any money I want to exhaust the basics. I know I can get a combustion leak test kit to ultimately determine it.
View 9 RepliesNo white smoke, no water in the oil. I think the antifreeze is not circulating. thermostat? plugged radiator? faulty water pump? air blocked? I have had heat in the car when the gauge is on "H" and then cool air when in the same place. Have loosened the radiator cap and the engine appeared to cool off quickly then when it got up on "H" again opening the radiator cap just to relieve pressure did nothing.
The next time i let it idle and it started to come down, then accelerated to 2000 rpm and it cooled quickly. The next time repeated this same type of thing and did no good. Next time the gauge said "H" i kept moving and the heater blew hot air for 4 miles then it blew cold air?Start with a thermostat? Try bleeding the heater? replace radiator? take a compression test?
I recently turned on my AC and heard a "flapping" noise from the cabin air circulating fan blade. After a minute or so, noise gradually subsided. Two days later, I turned on the AC and a smell most foul filled the cabin. Being a farm boy, I know the odor of ripe dead animal and I'm guessing a mouse. Is there any reasonable way to gain access to the area where the fan is so I can attempt a clean-up?
View 4 RepliesI have a 1993 ranger 3.0L/6cyl/automatic/ a4ld. I replaced the transmission and torque converter with one from a salvage yard that has approx. 76k miles. I added tranny fluid and idled the engine for approx. 10 minutes in neutral, but the fluid has not begone to circulate. I pulled off the trans line at the radiator and there is no flow with the engine running in park. Where should I start with the diagnostics for this problem?
View 4 RepliesAbout once each summer on a hot day, my Cadillac Catera won't restart until it cools for 15-20 minutes. I turn the key and the dash idiot lights come on but the starter does nothing. It only happens rarely and only on a hot day.
View 1 RepliesThe service engine soon sign came on awhile ago. I immediately took it to a garage and they said they can't find a code. My mechanic friend checked it and found a lean combustion condition. What could be causing this issue and what can I do about it. This yellow service engine soon light is driving my nuts!!!
View 16 RepliesI have a 1993 Cadillac STS which I just purchased with low miles and clean carfax. Local car. Everything works like a dream and drives beautiful. All of the sudden it just shuts off ()Northstar engine() and I have to place it in park and start it again. It usually just happens on slow traffic. No engine service light so I can't get the auto shop to get me an error code. What it might be?
View 16 RepliesRecently my check engine light came on on my 98 Cadillac Deville. I went to Autozone and got a free engine diagnostic and was given a printout of a bunch of stuff I did not understand, the technician told me it was just an issue with the light, and it could be fixed with unhooking the black end of my battery for 10m. Just a little bit ago, i popped the hood, and touched the black end of the battery to see how i could unplug it. When i touched it I heard a click and now there is no power to my car. Every time i jiggle the negative end I hear a click from the right side of the engine and nothing happens. I did not even unhook the battery.
View 1 RepliesI have a 92 Deville. I drove a pretty good distance today and on the way home stopped at the store and left the car on in the parking lot. I got in and the engine died as I tried to pull out of the lot. When I try to start the car all the lights come on but nothing happens, no clicks or anything. Lights don't even go dim. Could this be the alternator? I know that the starter suddenly dying won't cut off the engine like that. Everything seemed fine before idk what gave out?
