Buick - Rendezvous :: Groaning Sound From Engine Which Would Last 15 - 30 Seconds
May 18, 2013
One year ago, after driving 8 or so hrs., at 108,000 mi, my 2003 Buick Rendevous started making a groaning sound which would last 15-30 seconds. When exiting the turnpike, the sound lasted nearly 1 min. The next day, the Buick dealer could find no cause but put a new serpentine belt on it which solved the problem for a few months. (I had previously replaced the serpentine belt at 96,000 mi as routine maintenance.) After a couple months, I heard the sound again and took it to my local Buick dealer who could find nothing. It was o.k. for about 6 mo. Now it groans again. My local mechanic heard it but could find no cause. It groaned almost constantly a couple days ago while I was driving in slow traffic w/the a/c on but quit when I turned the a/c off. It sometimes groans with the a/c off, especially on a turn from a stop sign. I now have 114,000 mi. The sound seems to be originating from the engine.

I turned the car on this morning and my turn signals don't work, there is no clicking sound when I flip the left or right signal and when I step on the brakes the brake lights don't illuminate. Needless to say the cars behind me don't like it when I slow down to make a turn. Can't be the bulbs and the symptoms make me think it is more than a fuse.

My 2006 Prius makes this noise - like a groaning sound for about 5 seconds - when I shutdown the engine. Always happens when I am NOT at the dealership. Generally happens when the engine is hot. What this might be?

I recently had the transmission rebuilt on my 2004 Buick Rendezvous. After 150,000 mile and noticeable slipping, it was time. When I got it out of the shop, I noticed that acceleration was sluggish, When you would stomp on it, the engine would start to "bog down" while the RPMs would hit 5000. Took it back into the transmission shop where they checked it out and said transmission is operating fine, but they show an o2 sensor issue. They suggested that it might be this sensor or that it may need a tune up or perhaps just new plugs.I took it into my mechanic and they checked out everything, plugs, fuel filter, and replaced sensor. Afterwards, they said that they get no misfire codes whatsoever, and say the engine runs great. Unfortunately, the acceleration problem did not go away I am stumped. The mechanic says its the transmission; the transmission guys says it's the engine.

This Buick began stalling, then difficult to start. We have replaced fuel filter, fuel pump and sending unit. It will start sometimes and either run smoothly for a few minutes or run rough stumble and backfire through the throttle body. It has not thrown a code thru any of this. How to proceed?

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous CX (2wd no traction control). My ABS is throwing a C0040 and C0035 code. After reading some info it seems to most likely be a wiring issue. Would a wiring issue also cause brake performance issues? At times when I brake there is a slight "pulsating" feeling in the pedal accompanied by a noise like I'm on gravel (not the bad pads/rotors noise). I can also here a very fast (but faint) clicking noise when I brake at low speeds.

I just had all the plugs and wires replaced on my car. The mechanic said this (MAY) fix the problem.I am still having a problem with the car shifting very hard, and make grinding noise coming from the rear. It sounds like the transmission is falling out! Does it maybe the clutch sensor. I have had it to 2 shops and analyzed, and they have no clue.

130,000 miles transmission shifts hard in every gear sometimes other times it is completely fine. Thought about servicing it with new fluid, filter, flush but have heard that this could cause problems since so many miles...

The wife has a 2007 Buick Rendezvous that makes loud growl after starting. Doesn't happen immediately, sometimes it doesn't happen at all. I have not been lucky enough to have it make the noise when I have the hood up. But from inside the car it sounds like it's coming from the driver side close to the firewall. I know "belt noise" when I here belt noise. This IS NOT belt noise.

When the radio is on AM and the car is running, there is static . When the car is turned off and the radio remains on, the static disappears. We have had the antenna replaced, the radio replaced and all worked for a while but now the static is back. 2006 Buick Rendezvous...

My truck has this rapid machine gun type start, but not always. It always starts though. I had the alternator tested at O'Reilly auto. They said it was good. I have also been trying to see if there is a possible relation with my clicking sound. I guess it might be more of a steady tapping. I thought it was possibly a lifter. My neighbor that works at one of the quickie lubes said he would take a look. He listened with a screw driver and said he did not here the clicking/tapping sound from the engine.
I showed him how when you accelerate on the gas it gets faster and louder. He said it sounded like it was coming from one of the pulleys. There is no kind of squeaking though, just a loud obnoxious tapping noise. He said that he thought it could be a bearing.I am just trying to think if there is still some kind of alternator relation, because also at times going down the road I notice that the lights on my dash flicker a bit. From looking at all of the pulleys, they all look pretty steady. Although, the crankshaft pulley on the bottom does look like it has just a little wobble. We did not have a long enough screwdriver to listen for the tapping in the pulleys. Also, the serpentine belt is good on it.

Vehicle will not respond to anything. Remote key access wont work. No clicking or starter movement. No lights, radio, etc. Not the battery.

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous with a 3400 sfi engine. The vehicle runs perfect except random stalling when you are stopping or pulling out. It seems the vehicle has a random low idle unless the air conditioning is on at which time the idle stays around 700 and the vehicle does not stall. I had a repair shop clean the throttle body which made no difference. I replaced the IAC valve and air filter yesterday and still no change. Also was wondering if you unplug the IAC valve should the idle change because it has no effect on the idle at all when I unplug it while the vehicle is running. Really cant afford to just start replacing item after item with no result.

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous and after driving the vehicle and turning it off for a short period of time it will not start. It will continue to "crank" or "turn over" but cannot get it to start unless I wait for around 20-30 minutes at which time it will start like it never had a problem. Also now when I am driving and I hit the brakes to come to a stop the Anti-Lock Brake Light comes on and the AWD Disable Light comes on? I just had the brakes done and thought it could possibly be a problem with the way they were done and took it back to have the brakes checked out again but found nothing wrong....

Had the Buick dealer perform a flush on the rear diff with a speical lubricant to refill and it worked for awile. There only recommdation was to replace the rear, which is cost prohibitve. This noise is a whing/moaning noise when turning sharp, like into driveways, streets and parking places, only when the weather and vehicle are warm. Doesnt' seem to effect any operation, the noise has not gotton louder. Any fixes known? I may start looking for a used rear asm, but I don't want to get the same problem, as Ive heard this is common for GMs AWD systems.

I am the original owner of a delicious 2002 Buick Rendezvous. She's nearly at 180K and I have been taking care of her since I got her in 2002.
a) Whistling noise coming from the alternator. Lights will dim when other electrical is used. This noise DOES come through the speakers even when the stereo is OFF.
b) Gas gauge that dances from E to F and anywhere in between. This is a regular occurrence. Hard to tell how much gas I have left. One mechanic advised me that the sensor may be stuck or getting bad signals and invited me to change the sensor. Worth it?
c) Intermediate Starting problems. Sometimes - very difficult to pin down what happens before, but the car will not start. After it doesn't start, I turn the key back to off, wait a few minutes and turn it back on. The thing is before I even get to the "start" portion of the ignition, the car will try starting itself?

Recently my speedometer has been acting wacko...and continues to do so. Two to five minutes into a trip it will slowly increase or decrease in mph's and randomly stop (or continue) as it pleases regardless of how fast or slow I am traveling. Several mechanics checked it and test drove it and no one could figure it out. The devices they used to check the speedometer indicated it was functioning properly.

I have a 2002 Rendezvous. I keep on hearing a loud noise coming from the front of the car when I am driving and it gets louder when I drive faster. My mechanic says its because of a brake rotor that's hung up on something in the car.

I own a 2003 Buick Rendezvous, which several months ago started to have a water leak in the front passenger area (coming from under the dashboard). I've tried a local mechanic and a body shop but neither place (highly recommended by friends) could locate the source of the leak. It is obviously water (not coolant), and the volume suggests it is from the outside of the car and not condensation from the AC unit.

I've been working on a 04 Buick rendezvous and it has a very loud high pitch squeal when revved past 3000 rpms. Along with a serious power loss when the squeal starts. Has a new power steering pump as of today. And I took the belts off and revved it and the squeal is still there. That rules out the squeal coming from the belts. It is coming from some where in the engine bay and I'm stumped. I was almost positive it was the power steering pump since it sounded like it was about to go. But alas it was not. I does a little squeak when first started but nothing when idling. I've heard of a squeal coming from a clogged cat and it blowing out the egr valve. The squeal is so loud that you can hardly stand near the car.

Finally got the Tech to acknowledge the Humming/Groaning from the Engine as I sat behind the wheel at my 5000 mile service visit. His response was that the sound we were hearing ( at start-up) was "NORMAL"
The RX drives and sounds fine after that mileage, but many times my destination is less, and I feel like I am driving a reject. This has persisted since new, @ frigid and high temps; as we approach 7500 miles.
Engine sound varies in pitch when acceleration increases the RPM's ?
