Yukon :: 2004 Denali - Coolant Spewing Out
Mar 10, 2013
2004 Denali XL with 78,800 miles. I've had it since July '12, and when I changed the oil immediately after buying it (74,700 miles) it was low and filthy. All the fluids were checked/topped, and I had to rebuild the front drive diff and replace a cracked axle tube shortly thereafter.
Everything has been fine since, except for some coolant spewing out mysteriously every once in a while and slightly more than a qt of ATF just disappearing about a week or two ago.
It was shifting a little jerky so I checked the fluid and found it just barely on the stick. Quite a surprise since I check it every month or so, and I've never seen a drop on the ground.
Should I flush or do the standard filter and partial change? The fluid is pink and clean looking at this time.

I recently purchased a 2002 Yukon Denali. I've noticed a whining sound from the front end when I'm at a steady speed. When I take my foot off the pedal, the sound stops. I had it in the dealership and they first thought it was the front drive shaft and replaced it. That didn't work at all, so they then told me it was due to the all wheel drive. What is causing this?

Ok I have a 2001 Denali AWD 6.0, and when I accelerate it makes a whining noise as if it were low on power steering fluid, well I just replaced the power steering pump today and the ring and pinion with bearings about 1000 miles ago. Still whining, the shop today said it could be transferred case but I doubt that because I had it inspected when the ring and pinion was replaced.

I have a 2005 Yukon Denali XL. The low beam headlight on the driver's side will not work. I replaced the bulb. Still won't come on. We had just driven the truck up the Dalton highway (The rough road seen on Ice Road Truckers). The passenger side low beam works fine, and all the other lights work fine.

My 01 Denali is making a slight knock when I turn right or left, and I can feel it just a bit in the steering. To my knowledge nothing has even been replaced. It has 134,000 miles

I have a whirling or spinning noise coming from front differential at speeds above 30 mph. The noise stops when I release the accelerator? From what I read maybe the bearings.

I have an '02 XL Denali 1500. The spare tire carrier was broken (cable had snapped) prior to me buying it. As best I can find, the part number for it is: 15026912. I'm curious if any of the newer designs (such as part# 25974845) would fit. 2 reasons I'm asking,
1) the newer ones supposedly keep the tire from falling on the road if the cable were to break, and
2) they're cheaper than the original part number.
Living where road salt snacks on vehicles for 6 or 7 months out of the year has yielded no luck in finding a functional one by checking with the local salvage yards.
Right now the spare sits in the back, which is fine most of the time, but it takes up a good amount of space when packing for trips.

As the says I have a 1999 Yukon Denali that the Rear Brake and Turn signal on Drivers side are not working. Also brake light on trailer DOES work but not the turn signal on that side.
I tested the Tail light circuit by plugging it into the passenger side and it works so that rules out that. What wires to test under the dash to test the combo / multi switch?
Also the tail lights or park light do work (both top and middle bulb lights up when the vehicle is running) its just brighter filament does not light up when breaks are pressed or turn signal is on.

Why a 2004 Yukon Denali would not start. It's leaking coolant. The battery was replaced less than 2 weeks ago and it doesn't jump start. I was told that the water pump is cracked and when you turn the key the lights and radio come on but that's about it.

Working on a 1998 intrepid got the codes po134 po171 po154 and got all the codes taking care of except 1 po134 which it says its a oxy sensor just took it for a test drive after about 10miles it starts spewing black smoke and trying to stall out, then it clears right up after that.

I have a 2001 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4. 150,000 miles. I had the ignition coil changed on cylinder #5 last weekend and then this weekend it started spewing black smoke out the tailpipe. Dealer says cylinder #2 is misfiring and he would have to replace the cylinder head. The main issue is that the part is backordered for an indefinite amount of time so I have no way to know if or when it could be fixed. If it could be fixed there wold be no guarantee it would work for much longer. It is obviously cheaper to repair the car than get a new one, but at some point the is the law of diminishing returns...

I have a 2004 gmc yukon. It won't go into any gear but when I wait awhile it will go into forward and reverse. So I use my code reader and there was nothing in there but I cleared it anyway than the yukon will drive. Do you think is the solenoid...

I have a 2004 GMC Yukon SLT, 2WD. At night, when I signal right, my high beams come on. After making the right turn, my signal disengages and the high beams return to low. Now I only make left turns at night.

About a month ago I was using my driver side seat heater when I noticed it wasn't warm anymore. I looked over and found the indicator light for the heater was off. Here is what happens:
When I push the buttons, I can hear a relay click under the dash, the indicator lights come on quickly, but then they go right back off. It does not matter if I choose upper or lower heaters, and it acts the same for both driver & passenger seats.
I connected up a Snap-On computer to it yesterday. We went under the driver door module and it shows the heated seats, but no error codes were present. It displayed the heated seat as inactive. When the button is pushed, it would show active for a split second, then go right back to inactive.
My mechanic friend thinks that it may be a shorted heater module. He isn't 100% sure on if that is the correct diagnosis, or where to locate the module. I believe it to be under the driver's seat.

My 04 Yukon XL blows ice cold from both units while driving. However, at a stop light or in park the temperature of the air warms slightly. It will sometimes also blow hot. I checked the pressure using one of the units available at auto parts stores, and it was a low. I added refrigerant and the issue got a little better. I am thinking the fan clutch may be going bad? The truck doesn't overheat at all and in fact stays at mid-gauge throughout operation. Am I correct in pin-pointing the fan clutch?
Also, I know on the and up the TPS tells the pressure for each tire. Is there a way to get this same feature on my? Would it be possible through a software upgrade or replacing the entire DIC?

I got a 2001 Denali with the 6.0l. It seems to be leaking engine oil to the rear of the oil pan on both sides. It has residue where the oil cooler lines are at, by the drain plug, under the bell housing and around the starter. Also, I noticed there was some antifreeze on the right side axle towards the right front of the motor. I can't see any signs of the water pump or thermostat leaking. Where either of these could be leaking from?

I drove my 2000 GMC Yukon Denali with an nearly empty gas tank on accident and then parked in my driveway for a few days. Went to start it up to go fill it but it won't start. It'll turn over and it sounds like it starts but it dies after 1 second. I filled up the tank using those portable gas tanks to the point where the denali's tank is nearly full but it still start. Is this something simple and easy that I can fix myself or do I need to get it towed to the mechanic and if so what is the cost for something like this?

I am going to install a coolant filter on my 2004 6.0 E350 van. I have read threads about bypass filters and full flow filters and I started asking myself "Why use a bypass when I can filter all of the coolant?"
Is there any reason why someone should use a bypass filter? I bought the van used knowing I would eventually have to do most if not all of the 6.0 repairs. IPR sells a complete coolant filter.
I talked with the people at FICM repair and they suggested I do my research but leaned towards the IPR cooler. Ed spent a good 30 minutes on the phone answering all my questions and never asked if I wanted to buy anything. If anything, he was trying to stop me from throwing money at the van until I isolated what needs to be repaired.
I already bought the Sinister Kit and requested a return.

My A/C wasn't working (blowing hot air instead of cold), so I had some repairs done. First I was told it was some sort of bracket, replaced that. Then the guy told me it was the compressor, replaced that. About $1K later, he returned the vehicle to me, and the A/C worked about one hour, and even then wasn't super cold. I have since had the freon level checked and there are no leaks, everything seems to be OK, it just doesn't cool.

I am currently having an issue with my 2003 Yukon XL. Randomly, but mostly associated with hot outside air temps or while pulling our camper the truck will just shut off. Almost like we turned off the ignition. We don't get any sputtering or misfiring, nor does the CE light come on. After about 3-5 min we can start the truck up and keep on going. On the hot days it may do it a few more times but on others it wont do it again for weeks. I recently had it looked at and the mechanic thought it was a fuel pump. But after finding out the cost of the repair I did some investigating and found other people have had this problem. They to were told it was a fuel pump. However after it was replaced they still have had the problem.
