View 3 Replies2003 echo automatic, 168,000 kms doing a routine maintenance, getting tranny fluid changed, is there a filter to change on these cars or is fluid enough.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 toyota echo which just had the 3rd brake light burn out.*'m having trouble getting light fixture out to change bulb.
View 2 RepliesI just bought this car, had front brakes put on, rotors. I have noticed with stop and go in traffic that the engine revs and I have to hold the car back. Also when I release the brake there is like a light click or thump. Sometimes it makes the small sound when I put the brake on.

I have a 2009 yaris.
I recently noticed that the airbag light of my 2001 Echo never comes on and is off all the time.
What can be the reason? Is the fuse blown?
If the fuse is blown, shouldn't there be an alarm or warning indication? I mean, because airbag is a the main safely feature in a car, shouldn't there be a warning mechanism to simply indicate that it does not work at all?
BTW, can a battery change have caused this? I changed the battery a while ago but never noticed this issue until now.
How to change a 2003 toyota echo blower motor.... Looking for a step by step directions ....
View 2 RepliesSo I just got new wiper blades for 2001 Toyota Echo, and started to fill the washer reservoir tank when I immediately heard it drip down underneath. I accidentally filled it past the line, and after a few minutes, the bottom portion of the reservoir was still blue, so I think the leak/crack is located towards the top/neck.
But, the issue that has me a little concerned is that I also noticed that when I activate the windshield washer switch, I immediately hear fluid spraying and gushing. No fluid comes out the nozzles. I hear the pump.I don't think it happens at the pump/tank/hose area at the bottom of the tank. I think its occurring inside the fender. I see water drip down the fenderwall onto the tire and ground.
That hose seems to go from the washer fluid tank to the passenger fender and through it and alongside it and comes out near where the hood bolts to the hinge. If the hose is leaking there behind the fender, how I am supposed to access the area in question.
I understand removing the bottom splash cover will give me access to under the fluid tank. Removing the bumper would probably give me access to the tank itself? But that washer tube just rides up along the fender out of sight before it emerges out the back..so what is the proper/easy way of being able to access/route that tube..couldn't really find it in the factory manual. Would removing the fender give me access to the tube?
For the last few months, I have been chasing down steering problems. Alignment, end links, ball joints... and now, humming. Every time I take a turn that requires more than 1/4 turn of the steering wheel, the car hums. It wasn't very noticeable at first, but over the last week it has gotten much louder.
I have topped off my PS fluid and replaced my belts, but this has not solved the issue. Before I start replacing a pump and/or a steering rack.
I just bought a 2001 Toyota Echo and wondering the procedure for checking the automatic tranny fluid. It doesn't say a word in the owner manual on how to do it. I know most vehicles you have it warmed up and check it in Park while idling.
View 1 RepliesTwice now my 2001 Echo has overheated when I was sitting and idling it for an extended time with the air conditioner running. The temperature outside was in the nineties. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. After I let it cool down the first time added coolant and drove it, it didn't happen again until today months later. Is this normal?
View 4 RepliesSo I was on the highway today and all of a sudden I saw bluish color smoke coming out from the back of the car. I immediately pulled over the car and turned the engine off
When I got out of the car, I realized that the transmission fluid was leaking under the car and I think all transmission fluid got out for some reason
This is a 2009 Auto 1.6 engine toyota yaris in the USA. I bought the car with a clean car fax. but later on I learned that the transmission has been replaced. I bought the car on 2010 and when I bought, it had 16K miles now it has 60K miles. Bought it for 10K+tax.
Do you think my transmission is gone or is it just leaking? There were no problems no noise no low performance of any kind. How much would it cost to replace? or should I get a rebuild one? My mechanic friend checked the transmission and said I need a new one.
For about the last 6 months or so I get a audio static for about 10-12 seconds every time I turn on the engine. Ditto after I turn off. I am using factory speakers, the head unit was replaced by previous owner. There has been no issue with the audio other than this one. I do live in an extreme weather area: +35C to -40C, but I don't think that should have anything to do with this. Is this a bad ground issue? In that case where do I find the ground cable and how to properly make the ground connection? Or is this something else?
View 2 Repliesi have a Echo 2005,140 000 km,AC.Changed antifreeze with a proper mixture(bought from Toyota). Changed the thermostat(from Toyota) as well and flushed the radiator with water at the mechanics garage. The water was going out from the bottom hose on a steady flow. Yesterday drove my daughter back from school, distance around 10 km(5-6 miles around),ambient temp.was about 15 degrees Celsius(around 59F), 3 traffic lights, 4 stops at the last traffic light the fan turned on and worked for 5 sec. I can`t imagine what will happen in the summer when its 40 C(around 104 F). No AC on, no defrost on, water pump its not leaking and its not noisy. I used to have 2000 Echo did pizza deliveries, i ve heard the fan only in very hot weather ,never in such conditions. Same with my Corolla, never heard the fan in such conditions. Actually at the last traffic light the only car with a working fan was mine.
View 5 RepliesI currently have summer washer fluid in my 2003 Toyota Echo's windshield washer fluid tank. I need to replace this with winter washer fluid within the next few days before the temperature goes below freezing.
When I pop open the hood, I see that the bottle is located on the left hand side of the engine bay. The bottle has a black cap with a picture of a fountain (wiper spray).
I have no experience working on the mechanics of a car. However, I would like to know the easiest way of replacing my summer wiper fluid with winter wiper fluid. The tank is currently full with the summer washer fluid.
a) How do I go about emptying the bottle completely without removing it?
b) If I need to remove the bottle and then empty it completely, how do I do this and what tools do I need?
I have a 2008 Yaris and the handbrake freezes when engaged (I set it after parking but then can't get it to release, leaving me stranded). Is this just poor design? I managed to force it to disengage with a screwdriver but I now no longer use the handbrake/parking brake for fear of this happening again.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to get my neice car going. .I went to move her car yesterday after a snowstorm and it idled fine but would bog down when I pressed on the accelerator. While it was running I checked to see if the air filter was dirty, it was and as soon as I pulled the snorkel off the car stalled. I put everything back in place and after running for a half hour it seemed fine. She drove to school but before she got there it started to bog down again so she pulled into a Toyota dealer. Later they changed spark plugs, new air filter and cleaned MAF sensor. Worked better until the next day, now it will crank over but will not even make an attempt to start. I tried to clean the sensor with rubbing alcohol but no luck.
View 3 RepliesJust bought a 2005 Toyota echo 2 door. I'm getting it this week, just getting detailed and all that good stuff. I want to add mods to it, such as cold air intake, muffler and much more. Sadly it's an automatic but it will do. Any link to a website for a cold air intake?

When I press the brake pedal when in the car is in PARK , I can hear a click in the plastic transmission housing beside your knee, where you change gears. It clicks when you press and clicks again when you release, almost sounds like a relay clicking. It only happens when in park, not in neutral or drive or reverse. It seems to click right when the brake lights go on and again when they go off.
Possible shift lock solenoid or control unit?
It's not the bulb or the fuse, but my wife's driver's side brake light is out (only the stop light portion). Where should I look next?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2005 ECHO. Heat does not work. Water pump appears to be fine. The fan works fine. AC works great but I just don't have any heat. When i turn the temperature dial all the way to hot- the fan still blows cold. How I can fix this?
Also, my fuel gauge is not accurate. I will fill the tank and it will still read empty and will slowly go to the right level. Could it be a bad gas cap? Its got 145km.
