I have a windstar 1998 model got into it not reversing was told range switch faulty because its drives and parks. Had that replaced still not reversing though reverse light comes on.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Staturn LW2 auto, 6cyl. When I try to turn on the car, sometimes the engine does not turn, doesn't make a sound, nothing. When I move the steering wheel, it turns on fine, it has to be in a certain position. Does that mean, the ignition switch is faulty or is it the pin? Is there a test I can do?
View 7 RepliesFirst time towing a twin axle caravan with the Santa fe. towed 250 miles without any problems but on the final long uphill stretch the esp light came on. When the engine is stopped and re-started it goes out but comes back on within a mile. Also when the caravan is plugged into the electrical socket the indicators flash at normal speed but unplug it and they flash very quickly. I have read a lot on the foot brake switch being a problem and sometimes it causes the esp light to come on.
View 2 Replies(6 speed)... I have faulty reverse lights, my speed sensor is working so I am sure it isn't the fuse, I am guessing this means the switch/sensor is broken. Where it is located, and what the correct part number is?

I have 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe......approx 10K miles......no major issues to date
Drove my son to school this morning and pulled into a parking spot.....the shifter would not move into PARK......it was stuck....would only go into NEUTRAL and DRIVE....the vehicle was idling
I was a little panicked, but put on the parking brake and called the dealership on the cell.....they told me to pop the cover on the switch near the shifter and and depress the reset button (needed a flat head screw driver).......it took about four tries and then finally worked.....
I shut the vehicle off, restarted it and tried to put the car into REVERSE...to back out of the parking spot......shifter was stuck again.....had to depress the reset button......
Immediately took the car to the dealership where it was DIAGNOSED with a faulty "stop lamp switch".......causing the shifter to stick and the brake lights not to work... this was a recall item for the 2007 Santa Fe, but not the 2008 (that I'm aware of)
Dealership replaced the stop lamp switch and had me in and out in a hour.......but they did not initially give me a write up......i told them this was a very dangerous situation that had just occurred and I wanted a write up.....they happily complied....
So keep a flat head screw driver (glove compartment) in the car and have your dealership take a look at the stop lamp switch, on your next visit, even though it was only recalled on the 2007.......I will also be contacting HYUNDAI directly...
ETA: ESC light was illuminated when I was trying to get the vehicle into PARK from DRIVE......also contacted HYUNDAI and gave them a description of the incident and now have a case number.
I took my '02 Passat in a couple weeks ago when the steering wheel controls and horn stopped working. They replaced a fuse. About 10 days later, I experienced the same problem. That time, they said that the steering wheel was all shorted out and needed to be replaced. Five days later, again the same problem. Now the dealer says it's some faulty switch from the fuse panel, which caused the short of the old steering wheel. Since that wasn't replaced, that's why I experienced the problem again. Could that have been the only problem? Or could that really have fried the steering wheel, too. Am I being taken, and do I need to fight to get some of that money back? Or is this legit? How can I verify that what they said was the problem actually was, and that I'm not left paying for their mistaken diagnosis?
View 3 RepliesWell I am working on the van today. 2000 Windstar. Recently (6 months?) the chime that is supposed to come on if you have the key in the ignition but off and open the door does not work. This has contributed to the keys being locked in the van 1 time so far.
So today I am working on something else and low an behold I notice something. If I put the steering wheel in the lowest tilt position then the chime comes on if the key is in the ignition or even if it is not in the ignition. If I tilt the wheel back up to normal driving position then it is back to no chime at all.
So I guess there is something wrong with whatever switch detects the key in the ignition. Problem is I don't know where this switch is at.
2001 has no power from fuse 1 to switch. Hazards work, not sure about reverse lights. No gear indicator light on dash. I've changed this switch before, plug and play. Not this time.

View 1 RepliesHad to replace the ignition switch. after I went to crank it after switching it out, there was a buzzing around the relay control module. Thought that maybe somehow the ignition tripped something in it so bought a new one. IT is still buzzing and car won't turn over. everything lights up on dash. tried to see if there were any codes and the scanner just reads "fail".
View 5 RepliesSo I recently (within the last month) replaced my DV for a Forge 007 and my stock air box for an EVOMS v-flow. My cel came on after the DV switch and was throwing the P0420 code at me. Then I swapped the intake and it has been good but I felt like I was running a bit rich and pulled my codes and it now has P0030 in addition to P0420. Why this is? I have 88K miles. Spoke to a mechanic and he says he thinks it is my cat dying. I'm a bit confused since I have a turbo back exhaust.
View 6 RepliesAbout two months ago, one of our two headlights was out. I came to Prius Chat -- of course -- to find out if I had to buy the super expensive ones from the dealer. Everyone seemed to agree that the best bet was to buy them from Amazon. We did. The dealer charged to install them and it was quite a task, things had to be removed and I didn't watch, so i can't be all that specific. At first he thought he could just stick them right in, but then quickly realized it was the kind that are difficult to replace.
So fairly soon after this job was done, my husband -- who is the 99.9 percent of the time driver -- noticed that they both just went off. He drives a windey mountain road in the dark, so this is not okay. However, by merely switching them off and then back on again, the problem went away. I worry that this could get worse. Last night, I was driving the car in the night and had been on the road for at least 20 minutes or so, when they went off. I turned them off and back on, and all was well. So, what's up with this?
What could be the cause of this? Have replaced the park/neutral safety switch and the Toyota Mechanic found loose wires on the Master Plug-In and repaired the Ignitor Connector. The computer generates no code to identify a problem. Problem still not fixed. I eventually get it to start but do not know why. Fuel pump replaced a couple of years ago.
View 2 RepliesI just bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 (Magnum Series); 5.9l, 2WD, 8cyl. After 2 months the transmission went out. I bought a used transmission and had a shop install it. When I picked it up (10-3-14) the mechanic pointed out the shifter is one notch off (ie. in R position its in Park, in N position its in Reverse, etc). In addition it no longer has D1 nor D2 (putting the shift in D-D2 position results in Drive only, no power gears). The mechanic said it was something in the steering column causing the shift display to be off and had no explanation to why there were no power gears.
To make matters worse, the ignition switch no longer reverts to the Off position; the key can be removed but the switch stays On, warning alarm for key being in ignition comes On etc. I admit the ignition switch was old and the switch would sometimes not turn over before the transmission was replaced. He blamed something in the column again. So,
Q1-Is the mechanic correct there is something wrong in the column and not a misalignment he caused when he installed the replacement transmission causing the shifter to be misaligned?
Q2-Why doesn't the truck have D1-D2 gears? Do some transmissions not have these or am I missing something?
Q3-Is the most likely problem to the ignition the ignition switch or solenoid? Or could he have damaged something during the transmission installation? (I ask the latter because he took a panel off under the steering column while installing the replacement transmission.)
This is a truck at work, I had my student workers put in a new blinker switch, and when they were done it won't start anymore. The "theft" light is flashing on the dash, so I guess the PATS system thinks it was tampered with. How could you trigger this by changing the blinker switch? Does this have to be reset by a dealer?

View 16 RepliesTook my phaeton in for routine health check. Came out with reversing lights not working. Next thing boot stops half way when opening and then stops working all together and wont register as closed on the warning system. Taken it to 2 vw dealers for investigation and so far still dont know whats wrong! They now want it for several days at great expense to investigate further. Have been in touch with vw uk who are monitoring the situation. Seems the less competent the technicians are the more it is going to cost to sort it out. Its not as simple as fuses and bulbs. Is there anywhere I could take it to like an auto electrical specialist or is there a phaeton technician out there who recognises the problem.
View 1 RepliesI got a morning or first drive of day noise that is loud enough to startle my wife. Sounds like a rock flying up into the wheel well. It happens when reversing down a drive way and I hit the dip or end of drive way. It has also happens when leaving work after 8 hours and I make 90 degree turn or more. When it happens on a turn it only pops on one side.
It can pop on either side or both at same time depending on a bump or turn. I also don't use a parking brake.
