Volvo :: 84 - Smoke Came Out Of The Center Console / Headlights Shut Off

I drive an 84 242--something bad happened when I was driving from Baltimore to Phoenix. Mostly it is now that I live in a very hot desert. But the thing with the car involved a short period (15 seconds) where smoke came out of the center console (behind the heating controls). After this the headlights didn't work. Everything else in the car works fine. I've checked the fuses--they are all good (both visual and by running a battery and flashlight bulb through it on the lighting fuses).
Of course when the headlights are off there isn't an issue. The lights are off. When I turn the headlight knob to the driving lights (center position) the parking lights come on. It is when I turn the knob to the headlights (rightmost) position that things go wrong--not only do the headlights not come on, but the parking lights go off.
Could this be the switch? Or more likely the step relay?

When Powering off my 2004 Prius, here's what happens: Press Power button, Power button and Dash display(above the sterring wheel) go off, while the MFD screen stays on(center console) - although temperature is no longer reported on the consumption screen, the consumtion screen is still on, power outlets stay on, and clock is still on. Car refuses to lock driver's door, even with keyfob located outside of car. Car beeps as though still on - I disconnect 12V battery to leave vehicle(and not wear down the 12V). Happened for 3-4 days, went away for a week, and its been back for a week since.
Traced problem so far to the three cables behind the 6 CD changer/radio unit. If the middle of the three plugs on the back of the radio/CD player is unplugged, the problem goes away, so does my bluetooth audio. I need to be able to use handfree while driving in my state, also haven't figured out what else is gone when that cable is unplugged. Radio, CD Player, and Navigation still work with sound when that same middle cable is unplugged.

Having problems with center console not shutting properly? A few days ago out of the blue it would not shut, almost as though something was blocking it. If I push really hard it clicks shut but when I go to open it again it takes a lot of unusual force to open.

I have a 2004 Yaris 4 door auto and when driving smoke started to come from the dash around the centre speedo console, and by the windscreen then from all around dash. Had to stop left it 15 mins started ok no more smoke but smells still. Its been 2 days since it happened and been ok. All electrics seem to work ok. It was not from engine bay the car has only done 15 000 miles.

I'm going to be hard wiring a protech cell phone mount at the center vents. I'd like to run a clean install, and ideally tap into the existing 12v socket next to the shifter. It looks like I'll need to take a fair amount apart.

The top half of my center console will not close and it appears a piece of metal broke loose from the locking mechanism. (See photos) ....
I have two questions. Is this one of those wear and tear items not covered under the warranty? (I have 13 months left on the OEM warranty). If it is not covered, do I have to replace the whole console or is there a separate part I can buy to fix it myself.

My wife spilled some cola from the cup holders in the center console and it got into the Hi/Low range rotary switch and the stability control button. Now the button and switch are all sticky and barely work. Looking for instructions on how to take the center console apart so I can get to those switches and wash them out with alcohol or something to get them working again...

I would like to buy a V to deliver mail. I would need to remove the center console so I can sit in the middle. I did this in my 05. Can it be done fairly easily and will the mode switch come out of the console for mounting elsewhere, like under the dash or seat?

It been a few days since I heard this extrange noise behind my center console, its very hard to describe, I though it was the CD exchanger of my radio unit but its not, sound similar. Has this ever happened to you before?

I want to change my B5 center console for a B5.5 one. I've heard that I have to change the handbrake handle too, is this a direct swap?
Anything else I have to be aware of? (besides that the fuel door button have to be relocated).

Tonight I was moving some stuff in my car around and placed my work badge in the console area behind the shifter of my 2011 Camry LE. It's the area with the aux plug in. I will attach picture. Anyways the badge somehow became stuck between the door and the back side. How to remove the lid?

My R is an earlier model with the Aux-in in the glovebox. I cannot think of a more inconvenient place to put an aux in cable which is why they change it I am sure. I would like to reroute the existing one or at least add an extender cable from the glove box to one of the unused buttons near the ash tray.

So I have the center console apart trying to get access to remove the 12v power outlet, and I have it all apart but I can't for the life of me figure out how the power outlet comes out of its mount. Does it slide out of the top, or come down through the bottom?

Having rattle on the right side of the center console? If so, did the dealership fix it or did you perform a DIY fix? The dealership said they tightened something a few weeks ago, which worked initially, but it is squeaking again. If I press against it with my hand (or have a passenger press their leg against it), the rattle goes away.
