We have a 2.4 t. S60 lately my wife says the low oil pressure message comes on, occasionally. Checked the oil level, it's good. Cars maintain e has been done regularly since new. One friend says the oil pan gasket has been known to loose it seal. He thinks I should change the gasket. The car sounds good and has this occasional problem for about a week.
View 5 RepliesI am a new Volvo XC90 owner/fan. The issue is my lovely 2006 XC90 2.5T started to show the bizarre 'No Oil Pressure. Stop Engine.' dash board message red color.
First things I checked right after seeing that message.
Engine oil level - FINE (actually full).
Engine oil - CLEAN and recently replaced.
I drove 100 miles and the weather was peaceful 40f degrees (5c). The sign would come and off intermittently and stayed there for some time. We were luckily at the destination so we stopped the car and did our biz.
After a couple of hours we started the engine, drove a car, came back home driving 100 miles back without an issue.
But after a day, actually today, I saw the same message again. It was intermittently again and then would stay. If I restart the engine the message would go away but then would come back after sometime of driving.
So I called a couple of normal non-Volvo repair shops and they didn't know what the issue is and didn't even know why I would check the engine pressure. So OK pass.
I called Volvo dealer and he said if it is a 'low engine oil' message you can just top it up but if it is a 'engine pressure' message then the issue can be huge so he advised to tow the car in.
I have a 2002 ford explorer with 70000 miles on it. The problem is that the oil pressure occasionally go from normal to no pressure immediately. Then within a minute it pops right back to normal. It has happened when I first crank up and sometimes just going down the interstate at a normal speed. My fear is that the oil pressure is really gone and there is a pump problem but with it either working or not I fear it could be a sensor problem.
View 5 RepliesMy 1998 Volvo S70 with 215,000 runs like a dream but it occasionally will not start. The starter sounds like it wants to turn the engine over and all of the electronics work when the key is turned. My mechanic has looked at everything and cannot figure it out. The car at times will not start and if it is left alone for a while it will then start. I have had it towed to his shop after not starting and once it arrived he had no problem starting it. What could be going on?
View 7 RepliesI had a new compressor installed on '07 ES350 and now every now and then the AC button light blinks, the cool air shuts down and I get a message on the screen saying "Check Air Conditioner".
It only occurs occasionally --maybe not at all one day and two or three times another day. I returned to the shop that installed the compressor and they don't seem to know what is causing the problem. (They said maybe a freon overfill and adjusted that --but it's still occurring.)
The car occasionally stalls while at a stop and the car is idling. The car is supposed to idle at 900RPM but is idling at 550RPM. What would be suggested to prevent the car from stalling?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 Volvo, 98,000, S60. The car has died on my about 3 times, weeks apart, when turning right. My first indication is when I can't steer, I throw on the emergency flashers, put in park, turn ignition and it starts right up and I go on my way. Took to my mechanic and he said he could not replicate. Did test the battery, which was low, bought a new battery, but it did it again today.

I am having problems with my message center and my indicator. The message center won't display anything. It just a mass of jumbled letter moving about. The indicator lights and sound won't work on the dashboard although they are working fine outside.
The dealer say that a new dashboard is needed, which is very expensive. Any fix to this? a reboot maybe?
I had my first service done away from the Volvo dealership. 2004 S60 AWD ... How to reset the service required message. (Canadian model).
The sales rep is trying to find this out for me as well. He knows it involves the pressing of the trip computer button and while holding in another button.
While my wife was re-parking my 2007 S60 this morning (currently at 73,143 miles), the error message "Reduced engine performance" came up.
She had switched-off the engine before calling me on the phone to report it, else i would have told her to rev the engine to see how far the rpm gauge could go.
While checking through the error on google, noticed there were several complaints on this in the past but could not see any inferences on what was done to resolve this except for guys who mentioned repeated visit to dealership.
When she switched-on the engine again, the error message didn't come up and she could rev the engine up to 6500rpm, i intend using the car for a long journey next week and do not want any breakdowns.
I was working on my shifter interlock and got a text message that says " gear selector reduced function" fixed the problem but cannot clear the text tried to clear with my code scanner no avail....
View 1 RepliesThis morning on my way to work my 2006 2.5T XC90 engine lost major horsepower. I barely could creep ahead once the traffic light turned green. The exclamation point on the dash was lit and the error message said "Engine performance affected". I sputtered to the curb and put the vehicle in park. I depressed the gas pedal several times all the way to the floor with little reaction in engine rpms. I then shut off the engine and restarted. After this the warning lights went out and the engine ran fine. The outside temperature was -7F and my vehicle had been running for about 5 minutes.
View 4 RepliesI have the "check stop lamp" message showing up. Both right and left brake lights are fine but the third brake light is totally out. I've heard of other Volvos having issues with the wiring harness near the hinge.
View 8 Repliesi drive a 2007 XC90 V8 with 76000miles and recently i got a power system failure message and battery light went on , so took it to my mechanic and he tested the car and it was tuning out 11volts so he concluded it was the alternator, so he recommended changing the regulator and i got a new regulator made by Bosch and it was installed and upon starting the message came back on and the battery light as well and upon testing it was producing 15.4volts , now its overcharging , what do i need to do ? should i buy another regulator ? as my mechanic says alternators hardly ever get damaged but the regulator is the one that usually gets damaged...

I have changed the original tyres and rim under my B6 Car, and i have this information displayed,Low tire pressure, i have tried my best to deactivate that light but still it comes on. i Bought rim 17, and the tyre size is 215/50/17, that is a sports tyre, and the previous rim size is 16 and the tyre size is 215/55/16.. Now i dont know why the new rim shows low tyre pressure, I have taken it to the dealer for decoding but still its on. Where exactly this sensors that detect the pressure of the tyres are located, the rear side of the passenger trunk was jamped before or had being hit before and i changed the master disk, i don't know if that is what is causing this. I really want to know where exactly this sensors are located.
View 13 RepliesMy '04 V6 is just about to turn 50K miles, fairly trouble-free, but twice in the past two weeks I've gotten a low oil pressure alarm. The alarm occurs on surface streets following a lengthy 70-80 mph run on the interstate. It pops up on the MFI, beeps a couple of times, and then goes away.
Not sure what's going on, but want to make sure that the dealership hears about it before I run out of warranty.
I recently had an oil leak in my 2011 prius 3. The local dealer replaced the timing chain cover and fixed the oil leak. I drove my prius for 4,000 miles and the low oil pressure message came on. I took it to the dealer who said it was completely out of oil and that it is burning oil but they don't know where or why and their only recommendation is that i change the oil every 3,000 miles. this seems crazy. Why a 2011 prius would be burning so much oil? i don't see black smoke or leaks.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2003 1.8L Volkswagen Passat which I hate to say I've been lax on taking care of. In the past year I've been good about getting the oil changed and using fully synthetic oil. I am now getting an error message that says STOP Check Oil Press. Stop Motor. I took the car to my mechanic who can't tell me exactly what's wrong. From what I'm reading here, it looks like I'm dealing with "sludge."
My car is at a little over 60,000 miles and I'm wondering what to do. I don't mind spending the money to fix the car, but I really don't know how to figure out exactly what's going on, and what I should do. The mechanic I took the car to is going to completely empty the oil and then get a gage of the true oil level...
1991 Celica ST 4A-FE automatic, 238,000 miles, son's car, has been running great, until he says his oil light occasionally flickers on him. Car is in Wisconsin, driven maybe 2 miles one way to work every day, hasn't been on the highway is a couple months. Has synthetic 5W-30 oil with about 2,000 miles since last change.
Brought the car into the garage. Sure enough, after engine warmed up and idle got below 1,000 RPM, oil pressure warning lamp would come on. Engine sounded normal at idle and fast idle. Tough to put a mechanical pressure gauge on this engine (after to remove the alternator and A/C compressor and bracket, per the service manual, to access the oil pressure switch). I drove it on the highway, put about 40 miles on it, ran great, until I exited the highway. Anything below 1200 RPM, oil pressure warning light would come on.
Came home, removed the oil filter with intent to change it (to make sure it wasn't plugged). Smelled of gas. Oh-Oh. Drained the oil (oil level was at full mark, unusual for this vehicle, normally would be 1/2-quart low after 2,000 miles - 2 months of winter driving). Oil came out with consistency of water. Smelled of gas, and could see water droplets as I switch the drained oil from a collection pan into a jug. Thought was many short trips caused oil to never get hot enough to burn off unburned fuel blow-up or accumulated moisture, so oil was diluted, much too low viscosity.
Changed oil & filter with synthetic 5W-30 & Purolator PureOne oil filter. Took it back on the highway for 40 miles again. Highway drive was fine. Upon exiting, oil pressure warning light came on at 1,600 RPM or below. Oh-Oh. Had another 40 miles on the highway to get home. Highway drive was good again. Upon existing, oil pressure warning light came on again at 1,800 RPM or lower. Oh-Oh.
Worrying that the oil pump for pressure by-pass valve or of bearing spin-out or extreme wear (although engine sounded fine all the time), decided to order an OEM oil pressure switch. Had to take some of the bolt-ons off to access the oil pressure switch, but not all the service manual said had to come off. Took the old oil pressure switch out - looked just fine. Installed the new one, put everything back together. Checked to make sure the oil pressure warning light still came on with key in the ON position (it did), so I knew the wiring connections were good. Startup was fine (cold engine). Took it on the highway for 40 miles, after exiting highway, no more oil pressure warning light. Even tested the situation with the automatic in drive, brake applied, lights on high-beam, heater fan on high, rear window defroster on (got the engine down to 600 RPM), still not oil pressure warning light. Turned engine off, then turned ignition key to ON, oil pressure warning light comes on like it should.
I've got a 2005 Volvo V50. High Mileage (230000). Timing belt replaced at 200k. Runs really nice, until this evening. Inserted the key and turned over but instead of starting it made whirring robot noises and read "brake failure message" and "immobilizar" after turning key to off position. It's really cold out. 0 degrees. What's the next move?
View 2 RepliesAs I was getting on the highway today, I heard a loud warning bell and my MFD displayed "Oil Pressure High. ENGINE OFF!". It lasted all of 5 seconds and then disappeared. Car seemed fine (other than the usual ticks and annoyances).
