1989 Toyota corolla wouldn't start whenever it rain even little drizzle, the battery is find but wouldn't start until the dry or sun shines on it. What is problem or cause this.
View 2 RepliesI have 2001 Toyota Corolla which has 100k plus miles on it. I have recurrence problem with car not starting. After i jump start, it works. I took it to mechanic to get its battery(2 year old) and alternator checked out. The mechanic looked at it, and told me everything is working just fine. He started it and i was able to start it. Problem solved for a couple of weeks.
However, yesterday getting out from work, It came back. Had to jump start and make it work again. is there something i am not doing correctly?
Periodically my 1994 Toyota Corolla 5-speed manual will not start. Other times it seems to hesitate before starting. The rest of the time it starts fine.
When it does not start: I turn the key, and hear the fuel pump relay click, and hear the fuel pump on the gas tank energize, but the car does not try to crank. I do not know if the starter solenoid is engaging at this time, as I could not listen for it while in the car. When I did try to listen for it while under the hood with someone else starting the car, it actually started (did not exhibit the issue)
When it hesitates before starting: However, sometimes, when I turn the key I hear the fuel pump relay click and the fuel pump energize, after about 1-1/2 seconds of holding the key, it does start.
When it does start it sounds normal, not like a low battery. The battery is new. I had the charging system checked at Advance Auto and they said the battery was good as was the alternator and starter. Plenty of cranking amps.
I disconnected the main wire on the starter motor and cleaned it with a wire brush. I also cleaned up the battery terminals.
I did find that the switch on the clutch pedal that allows the car to start when pressed has some fluid leaking on it (clutch fluid I think). Could that be causing the intermittent starting issue? If so, can I just clean it with WD-40 or something like that?
Our 98 Corolla has recently become hard to start. Usually two or three starting attempts for a few seconds before starts and then idles roughly for a few seconds, then drives fine like it always has. Has 51k miles, oil changed regularly, 100k-mile tuneup/spark plug replacement not yet reached (maybe another 18 years, in 2034? Anyway, has performed great always until recently no longer starts immediately. Replaced battery, no change. Have BlueTooth OBD scan tool connects to Android phone - cool display, no codes, what to check, do next?
View 18 RepliesI have a 2003 Toyota Corolla with 90000 miles, that gets regular maintenance.
I've tried taking it to the dealership, but all they want to do is blindly follow their flowchart, making me spend lots of money in the process. Per their instruction, I've already replaced the battery, I've done a tune up, including spark plug replacement.
I think it's probably some sensor that is busted. The car has 90000 miles now (I bought it 3 years ago with 59000), and it didn't have this problem before. In the past, it wouldn't rev high. But now, the revs wont go back to normal unless you spend a good 10-15 minutes in park until it "warms up", even though this also occurs in the summer.
Generally though the car has run great. It just revs high when starting up in the morning.
My 2009 Toyota Corolla has started to make a grinding noise when starting. The sound is identical to when you try to start an idling car. What the problem is?
View 7 RepliesI have really driven my Corolla until the stereo system stopped working a month old. The audio just stopped during one rainy day when I was playing a CD.
The stereo unit appears still functioning and I was able to take the stereo out and un-plug/re-plug in the 4 wires connectors in the back. A couple of times, by doing this, the audio came back for 10~15 minutes and then went silent after that.
So, what could be the cause of the issues? Could it be there some short in the wiring? How would trouble shoot this issue further?

View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 Toyota Corolla 5spd manual that recently is having an issue when starting off in first gear. In cold weather, I get a really bad shimmy, or shake, when I'm switching from clutch to gas. The shimmy is pretty bad only when I'm at rest going into first gear, but then subtle from first to second. I feel nothing while I'm driving in the other gears. Many theories come to mind what is causing this, but I'm not sure what it could be. I've never had the transmission oil changed. it could either be the clutch plate going bad or the throttle body.
View 8 Replies09 Toyota Corolla 75,000 miles. The garage where I have my car serviced 2X a year (oil change, minor tune-up at 7K miles) says the water pump is starting to leak. I haven't noticed anything, but the mechanics suggest a $600 repair. First, is this a common problem with my model car? Second, is the estimated fee appropriate? Is the car or am I in any immediate danger (how long can I put this off)? I've only been going to this garage for a couple years as my previous CarTalk-referred mechanic retired. I'm not sure whether to trust the new guys (no longer a single individual, but a group of mechanics in a middle class residential suburban neighborhood).
View 14 RepliesI got the clutch replaced on my 1993 Toyota Corolla (~160,000mi.) by a shop and immediately afterward started having really bad front end vibration problems. I took it back to the shop & they said that changing the clutch may have caused already worn out motor mount(s) to be stressed and that was causing the vibration. They want time with the car to figure out which motor mount it might be. My question is, is it reasonable that a properly performed clutch change caused the motor mount problems? Or is this the result of sloppy work? I realize the car is old, but I have always maintained it well since I bought it in 2004.
View 3 RepliesMy 1997 Toyota Corolla has recently began hesitating when starting. When I turn the ignition, her idle seems normal, but then goes 'down' and it feels like she's going to die. But then the idle/revs go back up and she's fine. However within the past week, she dies when starting (usually the first start or two of the day). She turns over, but then 'fizzles out' and dies. However when she does this, a small tap on the gas pedal revs her up.
This does not occur every time I start her. In fact the more I use her throughout the day, it seems she starts normal. There are no issues with RPMs/Idling when driving.
I've taken her to two mechanics and they could find nothing. Fuel pump, fuel line, throttle body, etc. All fine. When hooked up on the computer the only thing that showed a slight reading is the idle air control valve. But they can't be sure that's the problem.
Of course she hasn't died for the mechanics, just me as it's sporadic.
When I turned her on today she didn't die in the morning like she has all week, however the idle was so low that we were waiting for her to die. Slowly the revs picked up and she was fine!
I put fuel injector cleaner in a few days ago and got an oil change yesterday. That's it.
On my early 90's Corolla, when I turn the key to "on" but don't start the engine, the fuel gauge will -- for example -- read 1/4 full. It will stay at 1/4 indefinitely as long as the engine isn't running. Then when I start the engine and drive the car for a few minutes, I notice the gauge has gone up, so it will be reading 3/8 full within 5 minutes of driving. And I don't have to be moving, once it gets to 3/8, it says at 3/8 whether moving or idling at a stoplight. It has always done this, even since the car was new. It's not a problem, but I've always been curious what causes the fuel guaue to rise like this.
View 9 RepliesA friend of mine owns a 2002 Toyota Corolla with around 100k miles on it and it has some sporadic problems. Once in a blue moon the engine light comes on because of a misfire and seems to be around the same time it is humid and wet out (suggesting spark plug wires). However it recently sat overnight, after a slow rain, and would not even turn over the next day. The lights are not dimmed in the car but there is only a faint hum when the key is turned. What is wrong?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2009 Corolla with 48,000 miles. Yesterday night, the check engine and vsc off lights came on. By the way, a gasket is starting to leak (probably unrelated to the lights).
How urgent are the lights? Can I wait to get the car into an independent dealer next Tuesday?
My Gen iii four has a small light that shines down from ceiling and illuminates the shifter area. Can this light be turned off while driving?
View 19 RepliesI recently bought a 06 F150 Lariat scab 4x2 with a 5.4L. I am having a problem with the driver side head light. It comes on but not all the way on (shines but VERY dim). The low beam works correctly sporadically. I haven't done any trouble shooting yet because I haven't had a day off. I did replace the bulbs today thinking I had a loose filament maybe. Don't usually do shotgun maintenance but wanted to put xenon's in anyway.

View 6 RepliesI've got a 2009 Corolla CE, 5 speed. I've only had the car since september and had no issues until now. Now that there's snow on the roads, my car's ABS has starting coming on a lot more. Whenever it comes on, there's a noise that sounds very similar to grinding gears in a transmission coming from the front of the car. It's the first car I've ever had with ABS, and I've never heard this noise in any of my friend's cars with ABS, so I don't know if this is normal or not.

Thinking ignition switch... When I turn key. All lights come on. as normal. but when to try to turn over, no response from engine at all. no engine noise or anything, just see oil light come on and clicking sound.
