I own a 99 Toyota Camry w/ 122k miles on it. About a year and a half ago I started hearing a low frequency vibration coming from left rear. A few mechanics said it was a worn bearing and I may want to get that fixed in near future. Well here it is 2011, I can't stand the sound anymore and am concerned what other damage (if any) I may have put on my car.
View 4 RepliesI've got a 2005 Toyota Camry that was recently involved in a front end collision. Since it returned from the shop, it will occasionally stick when coming out of a left-hand turn. Basically the wheel stops for a second and you have to apply a little force to get it to turn back straight. It does not always do this, and it seems to be more evident at higher speeds.
View 3 Replies2014 Camry, 4 cyl. 65K ... Wife's car has developed a vibration that is going to be hard to get a dealership service group to troubleshoot due to randomness. I drove it for 30-45 mins today and have this description:
-Vibration, either described as a 'buzz' or a 'high frequency vibration'
-Happens in the 28-38mph range (different points)
-Under very slight acceleration. (hard acceleration efforts produce nothing)
-Can't swear to it, but feel like it is always in 'high' gear
-feel it in 'seat of pants', NOT through the steering wheel
-Is faint on sound, but you can hear something
-Is typically only a second or two
-Is very hard to 'create', but then happens unexpectedly.
-My wife first reported it to me, and I took my son on the test drive today and he could feel it as well when it hit, but couldn't pinpoint it as it comes and goes so quickly, but again, you feel it in the seat/butt more than anywhere else.
I've checked lug nuts to try to eliminate something easy and they are fine.
Since it is relatively slow speeds and under very slight acceleration, can there be a 'solenoid' that is creating a false shift effort, but just vibrates the trans instead? Without any info other than what I have stated above, I'm leaning toward transmission, but again, probably not enough info to go on....
Vehicle: 2011 Toyota Matrix XR 4-door hatchback ... A few days ago I noticed that my car started making an odd, very noticeable squeaking noise. The noise is coming from my rear left-hand wheel. It's audible from outside the car, and from inside with the windows down.
The wheel makes a squeak each time it turns, so the frequency increases with higher speed. It's audible from ~15km/h, below which the squeak is barely audible, up to ~70km/h, above which I can't hear it any more, maybe because of wind. It makes a slightly different kind of squeak from the same spot when I'm backing up. There is no other noise of any kind (nothing unusual is heard with the engine on, and the car stationary). There are no other problems at all with the vehicle. It's been about 4000km since my last oil change, I have that coming up soon, but I doubt that is the cause of this, since it's coming from the wheel.
What I can do is take off the wheel and take some pictures of the wheel and breaks to show ....
I am noticing an audible vibration coming from the rear of my wife's 2004 Sienna van when applying the brakes. I have inspected and confirmed there are no fluid leaks,there is ample material left on all pads and the pads still fit snugly into the retention clips. Also, the pads and rotors show no sign of uneven wear. Front brakes were replaced in 2009.The van currently has ~63000 miles on it.
View 2 RepliesI changed the gas cap on my car. This did not change a thing. I took to i believe reliable mechanic (has worked on car several times) and was told it is bad leak from the "sending" (I think) tube. I think it is the plastic? thing that sends fuel to the fuel pump. This is cracked.
View 5 Replies247,000 miles on '98 Toyota Camry as of last summer, car owed us nothing. Suddenly lost oil a month after regular oil change, ruined engine. Mechanic found used engine from totaled car (w/ approx 65,000 miles). Current problems:
1. speedometer/odometer not working,
2. heater/blower stopped working this week, blower makes a LOUD, HIGH FREQUENCY sound, sort of like a siren.
Was hoping to get another 2 years from her considering recent cash outlay. The mechanic couldn't figure out issue #1, and he hasn't looked at it since #2 started this week. I guess we can live w/ issue #1, but #2 has to be fixed ...
I have an intermittent problem with vibrations coming from the front left wheel area. It vibrates my whole car to the point where I need to slow down to 30mph speeds. It usually occurs during extended periods of driving, but not always. When I am on the interstate driving and it happens, it works when I pull off to the shoulder and turn my wheel all the way to each direction multiple times. Is this an axle related problem? What other things should I look for?
One more thing to add. When this problem first started happening, I noticed that it would only happen when I was in gear and giving it gas. It would stop vibrating when I was coasting in neutral.
My Prius v has 1300 miles. I didn't notice at first but now I notice a constant high frequency vibration in the car, especially at highway speeds. Took car to a tire shop and had tires dynamically balanced, same problem. I think it must be the toyo low profile tires or its in the drive train and just inherent to the hybrid system. Seems to be the same whether in eco mode or ev. Vibration is the same on smooth or rough roads. Dealer service manager says he is not aware of any problems. Suggests bring car in for a test drive and compare with another new one.
View 7 RepliesI need some speaker upgrade recommendations that'll fit into the door cards - specifically the subwoofers - I've replaced an OEM speaker in the driver side once already and it's doing the same thing as before it has a weird vibration/rattle noise with certain freqs. It may very well be the way it's sitting in there but I doubt it.

View 6 RepliesHad a long trip with the X this week and noticed a weird vibration up at speed. Anything before 65 mph and the truck was smooth, higher than that a medium vibration developed. Its frequency increased with speed. Never got the truck over 70, but the vibration was there enough to rattle change in the cup holder and the rear view mirror. What it might be? I was thinking a hub bearing... 2000 Limited 4x4 PSD ....
View 14 RepliesAfter driving for 30 minutes on the freeway, my Sonoma develops a high freq vibration that seems to increase after it starts. lessens a little as I slow, but does not go away until after the car has been parked for a while, but not as noticeable under about 30.. I have experienced this the last three days on my commute to and from work. Did have the breaks checked. I did have a clunk sound when i released the brakes at a stop, but that went away after the first brake check where they did not find anything, but just cleaned out the dust and readjusted. The vibe is pretty strong and makes me nervous to drive.
View 2 RepliesI have a relatively new to me Excursion. It seems to run well and shift well but recently I've become very aware of a strange hum, thrum, and vibration in the floor boards. The sound and vibration have a definite cadence/pulse.
Here is what I have observed trying to source the sound. Occurs around 2500 rpm and continues up to 4000 haven't really gone past 4k to know about after that.
Occurs in Park, neutral and drive and is more noticeable under load especially when towing. It is not really noticeable under my normal driving style it gets lost in the running gear until the X is at around 3600 RPM's which typically doesn't happen unless I'm pulling a long grade with a trailer. It was only after testing at a standstill in park and neutral that I realized it actually starts at approximately 2500.
Other than the vibration and low frequency hum starting at 2500 there are no real indicators of reduced performance or other problems but it's got me nervous.
Just got my 2014 SCREW 6.5bed with eco boost. Truck has a high frequency vibration very noticeable at 45-55 MPH. So bad the rear view mirror is blurry. Took it to the dealer and they said the e-brake was dragging and fixed that and said the vibration was gone. Not gone. Did some searches and found a number people reporting vibration issues possibly related to drive shaft issues.
Took this video of the slip yoke at the T-case idling in first gear, sent it to the dealer and they said that's normal. I don't think that looks normal. Does that looks normal?

Now that the weather is cooling, and my windows are down, I am noticing an odd sound seemingly from the left rear of our Matrix. It is a fairly high (but indeterminately) pitched, sustained jingling or rattling. Somewhat like I am dragging a very light chain behind the car, or scraping a light metal rod along very finely corrugated, but thick (high pitched) metal. Or maybe like a really lousy triangle. It starts and stops unpredictably, but with changes: it may start or stop with the application of brakes or gas, or may do so randomly. I think. I have not been able to discern a consistent pattern.
We are about to take a short weekend road trip. Should I be very worried?
2010 Corolla 1.8 automatic. Accelerating at highway speed (2800-3200) rpm a low frequency shudder/vibration is felt in the floorboards. Goes away of you let up off of gas pedal. No vibration at idle, runs fine all other times. Most noticeable when accelerating under load (ie going uphill) and at highway speed. Trans mount visually intact. Ditto engine mounts. Cv axles less than 1 year old no rattle upon shaking.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2010 Toyota RAV4. It is a great car overall but I have a persistent problem with a vibration from the rear of the car. It felt like I was running over tiny speed bumps at 35 to 50 mph. Toyota service looked at the car three times and told me there was no vibration and I should seek psychological counseling. My therapist told me that I did, in fact, suffer from numerous psychoses but that didn't mean there wasn't a vibration in my car.
So I took it in a fourth time and a mechanic determined that there was a vibration that occurred at 40 to 45 miles per hour on a slight incline during moderate acceleration. He believed that it was caused by the Sprag Clutch. He said it wasn't anything to be concerned about and I should ignore it.
The really bad news is that while the vibration has been there for 15,000 miles, I didn't take it in until 60,200 miles and even if they did recommend repairing it, I would have to pay for the transmission work as it is now out of warranty. My concern is that the problem will get worse and the transmission will eventually fall apart.
This has been happening for the past 6 months or so. I recently had new ball joints, 4 wheel alignment, and 4 wheel balance. Even with this I'm noticing a very slight high frequency vibration at highway speeds. I noticed on one of the front wheels that a weight fell off, so this might explain the high speed vibration.
However - When I'm starting at 0mph, and accelerate to say 50mph for example, the car vibrates rather substantially as the speedometer moves from around 25mph to just past 30mph. After those speeds it goes away.
I've also noticed that it tends to be worse if I'm going up hill, which, according to the laws of physics, would tell me that going uphill would put more pressure on the front end, given it's heavier with the engine there. If I'm going downhill it vibrates much less.
When I drive I tend to not accelerate quickly, meaning, I don't 'punch' it, and accelerate gradually instead. If I'm driving on a level, well-paved road, and accelerate quicker than regular, the vibration seems to not be as heavy.
Any other tests for this? Struts, control arm, steering knuckle, drive shaft ?
I keep getting oil in my coil well rear left side causing a misfire. I have already changed the seal twice not sure how oil is getting there or how to stop it.
View 3 RepliesToyota 2009 camry V6 Engine ( 55,000 Miles ) Vibration in cabin while in gear and also heat build-up on the centre console just to the rear of the gear selector and took it to the Toyota dealer 2 times and they say the vibration is normal ( looks like they don't know what is the problem or don't want to admit it ) .. and the Engine is very smooth till 2 months back and it is annoying even the Water bottles and the Cell phone vibrate when I put it in the cup holders ..
