I got in my car Toyota Avalon 97 and I heard a small pop like I ran over a pop can. Then as i began driving I hear a noise that sounds like it is coming from the wheels. It seem like ever time it make a full rotation I hear a flap. Almost like a flat tire.

View 1 RepliesMy vehicle is making a noise like a flat tire but no flat tire it is the loudest when my foot is off the gas and I am coasting I have had the bearing checked that is not the problem of course the mechanic couldn't hear it when he took it out but as soon as I left it started doing it they also told me the motor mounts are a bit loose but they didn't give me much information on it they kinda rushed me out my car is also vibrating quite a bit ....

View 19 RepliesSo I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent that has been a relatively good car for the 11 years I've owened it. About 2 months ago I got a flat tire, which I didn't notice until a passenger in another car told this while waiting at a stop light. I was so close to home (within a mile) that i decided to trek it slowly back. Made it back and a friend of mine put a donut on and I had the two front tires replaced the next day.
Within a week of having the tire changed I noticed several issues with the car. First, it was starting to make a very loud, almost grinding sound. Looked into whether or not tires had anything to do with it since I just had them changed. I pretty much now think its a wheel bearing. It seems to be coming from the right front passenger side. It gets louder as I speed up and also especially loud during left curves and turns.
But all that is background for my real problem. In addition to the above the transmission started acting up. At first I though it was the engine because the problem was initially just sputtering whenever I would slow the car down to a stop. I changed the spark plugs and wires but that didn't work. Then it started having problems shifting. Even going to 3rd now it can take a while, staying at a higher than normal rpm. And when it finally shifts it knocks hard. Only thing I did was have the transmission oil changed since it was about 40k miles past where Hyundai says it should have been done. That worked only slightly (maybe not at all). On top of that, there's also has an engine smell (like hot burnt oil) inside the car when I drive it for an extended amount of time. This was happening before and after the transmission oil change.
These are the first major issues I've had with this car. The only exception is that I've had a failed oxygen sensor twice but that was cheap to have repaired and both times the check engine light was on. It has not turned on once since this started happening. I've stopped driving the car long distances and especially over hills. I go 5 miles between home and work with it now. I was starting to think about getting another car before this happened but I'm still not ready to do that now.
Ok...I've been reading about Michelin tires on the forum and unfortunately, I just bought my 07' Limited with a brand new set of Kelly "Charger" Tires. So, I took a trip last week and noticed at 55-73 mph, the car rides nice, smooth, and quiet. However, when I hit 74 or 75 mph, I began hearing a road noise that sounds as if the tires have hit a certain oscillatory air resonance at this speed.
I'm wondering if it's due to the tire tread pattern or something else. Strangest damn thing. When I accelerate faster, the noise seems to diminish a little but still isn't smooth and quiet. Maybe I'm just drowning it out some while it accelerates. When I bring it back down below 74 mph, it goes nice and quiet again.
I have the tire pressures set at 40 psi (trying to get a little extra fuel mileage). However, I'm wondering if this might cause the problem...I believe the pressure should be between 35-38 psi. My TPMS light hasn't lit up, so I guess it doesn't see fault with an extra 2 psi. Anyway, the tires appear to be a quality tire. I looked they show the following ratings.
About 5K miles after putting on 18x8.5 rims with 235-40 tires noted bad reverberating droning tire noise and noticed stairstep pattern of excessive wear on inside tread blocks, equal on all 4 wheels. Is this just from going from OEM ET47 to ET35? Is camber adjustment indicated and is camber adjustable also on the rear wheels? (Of course, noise and reverberation gone when OEM wheels put back on)
View 5 RepliesMy friend has a 2007 Avalon with 150,000 miles. He ran over a chunk of rubber tire that was in the road and now has a load noise at 40 to 60 mph. He believes that a sound deading material is missing from under the car. He took it to the dealer and they could not determine the cause. He also took it to a local repair shop and they could not fix it. It appears that this material is used in the wheel wells also.

I do not know for how long he was driving before I saw him. By the way he was driving a Subaru. He might have ended up paying for 4 tires because of the awd?

Tire shake: took 4 trips to find one bad tire. Replaced 1 tire
Squeaky front end: 2 trips to find front coil rubbing on the frame due to bad mount or something. Fixed under recall
Squeaky front end part 2: bad upper strut mount bushing. I won't even count the dealership nicking my hood and it has to be repainted.
I have never had a perfectly smooth riding car. Frankly, the loaners drive better. I documented this with the dealer I bought the car from and then with VWoA a month ago. I told them the front tires are shaking again and need a balance. I even had the front tires balanced at an Indy shop. Before my 1100 vacation. Now it needs balancing again. The back has always had a slight bumping
Now at the 10k service, I get a free alignment check and find my car is moderately out if alignment.
I originally mentioned it to my purchase dealer asking if it needed the alignment after all suspension work. They said it was not needed. EVIDENTALLY IT WAS.
So now I have a tire with a flat spot which they should have replaced when I had one replaced. Evidently, this car says before I leased it. I used my free alignment I had with my extended warranty which I should have been able to save for down the road AND I still need a tire balance.
I told VWoA a month ago I shouldn't have to pay for a balance if it kept going out of balance. Obviously, something was causing the tires to be out if balance. It was pretty far out on the front left. Camber was out .58 and the toe .02.
I am highly annoyed. Norm reeves never put the effort in to make it smooth.
Last Sunday, my wife and I are driving down the highway. MFI flashes a warning something like "You have a Flat Tire!", then changes to "Faulty Tire" indicator.
Treg seems to be driving fine, I said to wife - probably electrical problem assuming the tire pressure sensor isn't working. Pull over, get out, look at tires, they don't look flat. Get back in, look at tire pressure monitor, which shows left rear tire is flat. Get back out, look at tire closer - hear hissing noise. Sure enough, We've got a nail in the tire.
Put suspension in jack mode, jack it up, put on spare tire, pump it up from air compressor, take tire to get fixed. (Manual talks about removing air compressor and hooking it to battery under hood? which is wrong).
2012 Golf TDI... No tpms? I just got back from a road trip and noticed I have a flat and most likely drove on it for an hour. I thought the car came with a tpms system. I checked the glove box and there is no reset button (which I read should be there if you have the new tpms system that works with the abs system). I have the Canadian Highline 2012 Golf. I read through the manual and didn't find anything about tpms. Does this come with the GTI only?
View 6 RepliesI just got 4 new tires installed, running 235-40/18 setup (stock wheels.) On the drive home, the flat tire warning sign came on. I've tried to used the SET button in the glove compartment to deactivate it. That did not work (it flashed one time then stay on).
I check the pressure on all 4 tires and they're all at exactly 40PSI. What the problem could be and how to turn this pos off without going to the dealership?
About 3 weeks into the new 13 Elantra. Liking it pretty good. I seem to be hearing a noise of some sort. Almost sounds like a flat spot on a tire. Seems to be more rapid the faster I go and more or less noticeable on different types of asphalt. Didn't really notice it at first. The only thing I did was let some air out of the tires. They had almost 40 psi when I got it. They call for 32.

View 6 RepliesWhen accelerating there is a noise that seems to come from the exhaust (can not be duplicated not in gear). This noise got louder recently, and then the noise stopped. When the noise stopped, the check engine light illuminated as well as the VCS and VCS off lights. Is there a common cause for this and/or trouble shooting steps that should be followed?
View 11 RepliesHere's what happens to my car: If its in park you can floor the throttle and its smooth and quiet for the most part. Same with reverse. I can put it in reverse, back up hard and it's smooth. When i put it in drive, stationary, it sounds rough. When I'm taking off from a stop it sounds rough until I'm at a good cruising speed at which point it seems smooth, until stopped again … … The noise is rough in both drive and reverse. Note: this stops for about a day after hoisting the rear end. Also, when going down the highway, the throttle "pauses " for a moment, then resumes speed about every 5 minutes ...
View 1 RepliesRecently my 2001 Solara started emitting a scraping noise from one of the rear wheels. Mechanic says its a frozen caliper, and suggested a complete brake job (rotar, pads, etc). My question is, I've got reasonable skills, by buddy has major skills when it comes to working on cars, is that something that a shade-tree mechanic can safely do ? Also, as its a frozen caliper, does that imply I need to replace the caliper, or could it have frozen due to the pads ?
View 5 RepliesI don't know whats wrong, last night i was driving and all of a sudden the car started to feel like it had a flat tire. The music was loud so i was sure...i pulled over and sudden my cel starts flashing. I turned the car off looked under the hood and couldn't see much (it was dark) i turned it back on and the same thing, when i accelerate there is a loud noise that seems to come from under my seat as well as a sort of stutter/putting like right before your stall out in a manual car.
