Toyota - 4runner :: 2006 - Low Idling With Slight Vibration At Almost All Speeds
Sep 9, 2013
My wifes 06 4runner 2wd with 120000 miles on it needed a new battery. I changed the battery that night and my wife called me the next morning when i was at work and told me that her car was idling low with a slight vibration at almost all speeds. Also, when stepping on gas pedal from a dead stop the vehicle hesitates only momentarily and then lurches forward like its slamming into 1st gear and then shifts and drives normally beyond first gear... I am perplexed. Never had any issues with tranny or any other component of the car for that matter until i changed the battery.

I have a 2002 4Runner that has recently developed a vibration at freeway speeds. I purchased new tires about two months before the vibration started. I have been back to the place where I bought my tires and the assure me that they are balanced.
I have been dealing with this problem for the past couple of months and have been getting nowhere. When I took my 4Runner into the dealership to get the lower ball joint replaced I spoke with the service folks about the vibration problem and all I got in response was "we've never heard of that before".

i have a vibration that starts about 45mph."When i put it in neutral it still vibrates". I did check the universals. Rig has 195,000 miles on it. Manual trans. It must be lifted because im running 265/7516s on it. Ive been busy changing fluids and such so i have been underneath it but didnt look for lift or factory.

On my way home from work today, I noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel and could even feel it in the shifter when stopped in drive at a light or stop sign. the car was fully warmed up and this was still happening. I don't really recall this before, but noticed it tonight as my hand felt it.
side note - I did do some spirited driving with a friend on Thursday, (two days ago) but drove the car yesterday and didn't notice the issue. I was thinking maybe I damaged something, but then again I would have felt it yesterday. so I sure hope not. Again its not a very harsh constant vibration but very slight but enough to get my attention. when I switch the car to neutral it stops and back to drive it starts again.

I have a slight vibration coming at speeds of 80kph and up that is driving me crazy. The steering wheel doesn"t shake so I am leaning more towards a rear of car issue. The center driveshaft and transmission were replaced and new tires{Conti Extreme Contact DW} Wheels are not bent. The car has 130,000 km"s. The vibe happens mostly when accelerating up freeway ramps. Once the car settles at highway speeds{100_120kph} it tends to reduce to a constant faint shake that you feel in the seats. Rear wheel bearings? CV joints? I am the only one who feels the shaking because I know how smooth a ride it used to be.

When I'm idling my car at a stop, I notice a slight vibrating through the car... The vibration could also be felt through the steering wheel.
Not a major issue. Tried pushing car into neutral to see if it made a difference... Nothing.

I have a 2003 Buick Century in automatic with overdrive. During the past week I experienced a hum and slight vibration at speeds over 20 mph. (The faster I drive the higher the hum.) I checked the transmission fluid. It was brown and pink but did not smell burned. I have not changed the trans fluid in 2 years. I sent it to my transmission guy for an oil change. He said that the 1st gear clutch was having some problem and there was no 4th gear. He suggested another transmission...

This has been happening for the past 6 months or so. I recently had new ball joints, 4 wheel alignment, and 4 wheel balance. Even with this I'm noticing a very slight high frequency vibration at highway speeds. I noticed on one of the front wheels that a weight fell off, so this might explain the high speed vibration.
However - When I'm starting at 0mph, and accelerate to say 50mph for example, the car vibrates rather substantially as the speedometer moves from around 25mph to just past 30mph. After those speeds it goes away.
I've also noticed that it tends to be worse if I'm going up hill, which, according to the laws of physics, would tell me that going uphill would put more pressure on the front end, given it's heavier with the engine there. If I'm going downhill it vibrates much less.
When I drive I tend to not accelerate quickly, meaning, I don't 'punch' it, and accelerate gradually instead. If I'm driving on a level, well-paved road, and accelerate quicker than regular, the vibration seems to not be as heavy.
Any other tests for this? Struts, control arm, steering knuckle, drive shaft ?

New, 2 month old 2015 CC, gas 4x4 with standard bed. At 50-55 I have a rolling vibration, or it can even be explained as a slight growl. Seems worse since I upgraded to 285/75/18 Toyo AT's and new wheels. If i speed up to about 60, goes away. If I pop it down to 5th gear, it seems to go away, however, I need to try this a few more times to make certain.

I'm new to Lexus ownership and have recently purchased an 08 certified LS 460 L with the air ride suspension. It's a phenomenal car, I'm now a convert to the brand. One small thing I noticed though is a slight jiggle or vibration coming to the steering wheel at moderate speeds. It is very dependent on the road surface, Seems to dissipate on the highway. Alignment was checked before delivery and feels fine and the tires themselves feel balanced. It's not upsetting, I'm just curious if this is something normal to the air ride suspension. Other than this the car is an absolute gem with only 35,000 miles.

I have an 83 Toyota 4x4 pickup. 4 months ago I was backing up in a parking garage and hooked my front bumper on a concrete column. I took it to my mechanic and found out I broke my right motor mount. I replaced both motor mounts and still have the vibration. I took it to Big O and they found nothing wrong with the frame but said I needed an alignment. (true) BUT the truck vibrates even when it idles. When I push in the brake pedal, the vibration dampens a little bit, like muffled a bit. What's wrong with my truck?

Ok. I can't figure this out, and 2 mechanics I took it to haven't figured it out yet. When I am at highway speeds, 6-70 mph, and I gently let off the gas, I can feel a slight vibration in the floor. You can also hear it if you listen. It stops when I completely let off the gas though, unless I'm going downhill, then it hums a few seconds longer before going away. I've had an alignment done, brand new pitman arm, idler arm, steering damper, and tune up. Also repacked the bearings in the right front wheel.
The mechanics do not see anything else that looks worn. They said the u-joints look ok. I don't get any clunking or banging anywhere. What else should I have them look at? Would that only cause the hum/vibration at highway speed? I was going to have the tires rotated and rebalanced to see if that fixes it.
I'm planning a 800 mile round trip camping trip in a week and would like to get this fixed before then. '95 4Runner 4x4 ....

2008 2.4 GLS auto, 64000 miles
Only taken this car on 2 highway road trips. 2 years ago = 34mpg on 900 mile trip (@36000 miles), last week = 31 mpg, EXACT same trip, this time in December, last time in September. Other difference - slightly perceptible tick noticeable if I stand in front of car idling.
Bought July 2009 (almost 24 months old) @ 32000 miles, oil changes every 3000 miles since, tranny fluid at 60000.

When I bought my 2007 tundra used a year ago, it has always had a vibration that affected the whole car (not steering-wheel specific), and was worst at 60-65mph, but a hint was there even at lower speeds. It was annoying, but bearable, for example if you look at the passenger seat at these speeds, you can see it wiggle back and forth about 1/2". It seemed highway speeds were where it hit a resonant frequency.
In the past month, things have gotten much worse and when the truck has been sitting for a few days, if I quickly leave the house and hop on the freeway (only about 1/2 mile away, I get a vicious vibration mostly in the steering wheel and less so in the rest of the cab. The wheel wiggles about an inch and a half back and forth at highway speeds and letting off the gas, braking, accelerating doesn't make much of difference, just speeds up or slows down the vibration frequency.
The wild thing is that it gets much better after about 2-3 miles. No longer really shaking, just a mild vibration like it has always had. If the truck is warm and I hop back on the freeway a few hours later, no vibration, just when leaving the house in the morning.

My 4 cylinder Tacoma vibrates a lot when it is idling, especially sitting in "drive" at traffic lights. My regular mechanic has tried various things to remedy it but none has really worked. He suggested the valves may need to be adjusted. Is this plausible? Or is he off-base? And is it really expensive?

Experienced slight vibration at idle with the ac on ranging from 780-825rpm n causes shaking. Don't remember it ever doing it before. Also once I off the ac it goes away. Also the car started dropping rpm a little when slowing down.

I have owned this 2009 Sonata for a year now..in the past month whenever I am at a stop and go to drive (at slower speeds is when its noticed) you hear a slight click sound from the rear. I took it to a local fix it shop today and they said the sway bar link on the left rear side was bent (from a fender bender since repaired). Well this did not fix the issue. They also said my rear brakes have 30% wear left in them. Do you think for any reason this would be the clicking? The noise happens as well when Im backing out of my garage...at low speeds.

I've noticed that when I am driving my car in the morning there is a slight vibration in the car, it feels like the rear, but it could be the whole car. After I drive it for a while this vibration goes away. The vibration never comes back again until the next morning, even when the car sits at work for 8 hours the vibration doesn't appear.
It's not a violent vibration, it's very subtle but it is noticeable. I'm thinking that most likely it is my struts and shocks, I know that they probably need to be replaced soon (with our shocks being crap).
I don't think my wheels are out of alignment as the car doesn't pull to any side at all and my brakes are also good and not sticking. The car has 86K on it. What is going on and if I should be more concerned than I am or is it just worn shocks and or struts?

I have a 2007 Accent that I love but have a strange issue. I had both front wheel bearings replaced about four months ago. Recently (about the past three weeks) there has been a slight vibration at speed once I hit over 50 kph, which sounds/feels like an alignment/axle issue (almost like there is a flat tire type of sound) but there isn't any sway when I let go of the wheel and I had the front end inspected and they told me there are no loose parts.
I took it to a shop, and they said a wheel bearing needs to be replaced. So of course I took it back to the original shop and had them check it again for free - they said it isn't a wheel bearing but what it could be.

I just bought a 2008 Elantra SE with 26K miles. So far, I've really enjoyed it, except for, at times, it does vibrate somewhat during idle.
I took it to the nearest Hyundai dealer, and they clipped the throttle cables to the inside of the firewall. This did make some improvement, but I still feel vibration during idle when the engine is warm (doesn't seem to as long as RPMs are up). It's almost as if the idle is set a little too low.
Maybe this is just normal vibration? It's not too bad, just noticeable. Can idle in these cars be adjusted? It seems the car is too new to have clogged fuel injectors. Everything else about driving it feels great, acceleration, etc. Do you think using a higher octane gas would work?
