Toyota - 4 Runner :: 1995 - Hum / Slight Vibration Above 60 Mph
Jun 15, 2013
Ok. I can't figure this out, and 2 mechanics I took it to haven't figured it out yet. When I am at highway speeds, 6-70 mph, and I gently let off the gas, I can feel a slight vibration in the floor. You can also hear it if you listen. It stops when I completely let off the gas though, unless I'm going downhill, then it hums a few seconds longer before going away. I've had an alignment done, brand new pitman arm, idler arm, steering damper, and tune up. Also repacked the bearings in the right front wheel.
The mechanics do not see anything else that looks worn. They said the u-joints look ok. I don't get any clunking or banging anywhere. What else should I have them look at? Would that only cause the hum/vibration at highway speed? I was going to have the tires rotated and rebalanced to see if that fixes it.
I'm planning a 800 mile round trip camping trip in a week and would like to get this fixed before then. '95 4Runner 4x4 ....

I have a 95 Toyota Celica GT which started making a noise today. It does not seem to increase when the engine is revved. The crankshaft pulley seems to have a slight wobble, belt feels tight, does not appear worn. Does not matter if AC is on or off. No performance issues. I'm thinking harmonic balancer replacement.

My wifes 06 4runner 2wd with 120000 miles on it needed a new battery. I changed the battery that night and my wife called me the next morning when i was at work and told me that her car was idling low with a slight vibration at almost all speeds. Also, when stepping on gas pedal from a dead stop the vehicle hesitates only momentarily and then lurches forward like its slamming into 1st gear and then shifts and drives normally beyond first gear... I am perplexed. Never had any issues with tranny or any other component of the car for that matter until i changed the battery.

I am experiencing a slight rumble-strip-like vibration/noise when veering to the right. There is no noticeable vibration when driving straight or to the right - sounds like it's coming from the front. I thought it was my tires but had them rotated with same symptoms/ I first noticed this shortly after I had them rotated in July. So it's probably front suspension.

'95 Civic 220k 1.5 auto runs great, 40 mpg. I call her "LUKA". Recently noticed a slight loss of coolant, about 1/2 cup per 200 miles. No drips or puddles, no coolant in oil, just changed 500 miles ago and still golden and clean. I may have noticed a little more exhaust, maybe my imagination, certainly not a cloud of steam. I intend to slip a piece of cardboard under her this weekend and let her sit and alternatively run the engine to check for small leaks, can't do it right now as it rains every other day . . .

1995 Chevy Lumina 3.1L Sedan with ~182K mi
Over the past 6 months, I have noticed fuel odor just about any time I turn off the vehicle, and I am also experiencing progressively higher levels of fuel tank pressure each time I remove the fuel cap. The fuel tank pressure seems to be greater the lower the level of fuel in the tank whenever I remove the cap. 6 months ago (~Sept) it was only a slight "hissing" periodically when removing the cap to fuel up, but now it occurs at every fill up and seems to have enough pressure to push the cap entirely off had I not been careful to slowly loosen the cap to relieve the pressure.
The entire fuel pump and sending unit assembly in addition to the tank and filter were all replaced about 4 years ago in May 2010 or about 28K mi ago. The issue has just come up progressively over the last 6 months.
Today, I inspected the evap. emission components and lines from the tank to the canister to the purge solenoid mounted on the rear of the engine. All lines are connected and seem to be in operable condition. The line from the canister to the purge valve mounted on the engine is completely free with no obstructions. I blew out the line with compressed air and absolutely no exiting particulates were observed. The lines on the bottom of the canister did not show any signs of wet fuel and there were no carbon particles present in the lines from what I could tell from disconnecting and inspecting. The vapor line from the tank to the carbon canister is not kinked or pinched in any manner.
I believe there is a fuel vapor check valve that resides inside the tank connected to the fuel pump assembly/sending unit. This was all replaced as a single unit as mentioned above. I am thinking this check valve may not be functioning properly and not allowing the vapor to escape into the carbon canister. I tried to apply slight pressure and vacuum on the vapor line connected to the check valve on the tank but no air was able to move in or out even with the gas cap off. However, I do have a full tank of gas right now, so I imagine the check valve will be closed.
The check engine light is not on but since this is an OBDI vehicle I am not sure there are any evap. emission codes anyway.
How can I test the gas tank vapor check valve? How can I test the vapor purge solenoid located on the rear of the engine? What malfunctioning component could be causing the excessive fuel tank pressure.

So to make a long story short, I've gone boost In my mliv r32 and the car ran no problem...I have installed an hpa cvp short runner IM...at first it was leaking from the injectors so I replaced my O rings and the fuel pump fuse as it looked fried...the car won't start...just cranks and cranks and cranks....wont turn over...

First the details on the car : 2006 Passat 2.0T with 61k miles with current up to date maintenance
Everything is factory stock on the vehicle except for the wheels. I have aftermarket 18x8 Moda wheels with Falken ZX19 tires.
I have been having issues with the vehicle vibrating slightly at 50-60 mph, but between 60-70+ mph it gets worse. However when I throttle off the vibration stops at 70 but when I accelerate it starts to shake again . I've had a new set of tire put on, rebalanced the wheels five times, alignment done three times, and have confirmed with three different shops the the tires and wheels are not out of shape.

I noticed sometimes my RPM seems to move a little bit, maybe by 100 at the most. I also feel a slight vibration when it happens. Is this ok/normal?
2004 BMW 330ci, 233k KM. No maintenance records apart from what I have done to it yet which is fuel pump relay, fuel pump, crankshaft sensor.

I recently was driving down my road in an ice storm from work and slid sideways into what I think was a depressed storm drain. (Lots of snow as well so unable to tell what exactly what it was) I hit the right front tire/rim into it. It was the loudest thud, one where you would think the tire came off. Nothing apparent visually, but on the highway it did create a slight vibration so i had both front tires re-balanced. Again, still a vibration about 35mph and up. Rebalanced again and still the same exact vibration.
It's not like hand numbing on the steering wheel but annoying and when you know you car in and out you know what vibrations are supposed to be there and which ones aren't. The tire place said the rim was not bent. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I was thinking of switching that right front tire to the back to maybe see if that worked with the vibe. Next step would be an alignment but the tire place insisted that wasn't the problem since I had one in November when the snows went on.

I thought it was just my imagination but I have since noticed a slight vibration in the car while I am stopped at a stoplights. This problem is intermittent, and not caused by sitting on a bridge or other roadway that can move. I can sit at a stoplight and turn off the Climate Control, it still vibrates. The RPMs are constant, nothing seems to be wrong other than the vibrations. The radio will be off (I turn off the techno). It looks like Jurassic Park when there is a water bottle in my cupholder. The vibration is steady in both intensity and frequency, and will not go away on its own once I notice it while stopped. The problem is pretty intermittent and I have been unable to reproduce it for a service tech.
V8 w/ 8k miles.

I have had a minor vibration above 50 or so mph(by speedometer). Installed a new driveshaft and corrected the pinion angle to near perfect. I have OEM 4.30 gears and 33.4" tall tires. I had to retune motor/PCM and one of the options while installing the new tune was tire revs per mile.
I input 620 and pressed on. Now my slight vibration is gone. Even at a corrected 70 mph it's smooth. I'm a little baffled, as I do not understand how a tire diameter correction in the PCM could affect the drivetrain?

I have a 2011 Tiguan S 4Motion with just over 63k Miles which for the most part has been problem free and great to drive since I leased it at 40k miles. About 2 weeks ago my CEL came on and I used the Torque app on my phone to check the code and it was the apparently well known P2015 intake manifold runner position switch code. The car was running perfectly fine so I cleared the code and it stayed off for about a week before coming back on with the same fault again yesterday. I have a couple of questions for the much more knowledgeable than I people in this forum around this code.
First - I've read in several places that VW has placed an extended warranty on the manifold and fuel injectors for the 2.0 TSI and that this code is usually an indicator that the manifold needs to be replaced under this warranty. What I haven't found though is conclusive info on is whether the 2.0T in my 2011 Tiguan is covered under this extended warranty. Since this code so conveniently is popping up just 3k miles past the end of my 60K mark, I'd like to know this. I leased the car from Enterprise, not a dealer so I'm worried that whatever dealer I take it too will try to bend me over on the service so the knowledge that the manifold is still covered would be at least some comfort.
Second - I won't be able to get it in to a service department until mid next week and I have a 300 mile trip to make this weekend. The car is driving fine as far as I can tell so I'm not overly concerned. I do my own basic maintenance i.e. oil changes, plugs/coil packs etc. but I'm thinking changing the manifold would be a little bit out of my comfort zone..

Well, I had a check engine light that lasted only three days then it cleared itself without any intervention. I checked it with a vag-com and I discovered there was an issue with the intake manifold control. I ended up bringing it to the dealer since it is a fairly new passat, and the service department informed me that the Intake Manifold Runner Control needed to be replaced.
Below were the fault codes.
3 Faults Found:
012599 - Intake Manifold Runner Control: Basic Setting not Completed
P3137 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100001
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 33815 km
Time Indication: 0

I have a 2008 focus and at about 15000 miles started having a slight vibration at idle. Its idling at about 700rpm is that normal? It more annoying than anything. Took it to Ford and they just say its normal. What the problem could be? Should I replace the plugs?

Experienced slight vibration at idle with the ac on ranging from 780-825rpm n causes shaking. Don't remember it ever doing it before. Also once I off the ac it goes away. Also the car started dropping rpm a little when slowing down.

I just purchase a new 2012 Lexus LS460 L AWD. Between 35 to 40 MPH I feel a slight vibration in the front end of the car. Once I get above 40 MPH the vibration or wobble goes away. Could it be a tire out of balance? Car was bought new, and currently has 1200 miles on the clock.

I put on Cayenne 19" wheels with the high performance tires during my 5K checkup. After 4k more miles I noticed a slight vibration above 60mph, which normally indicates an alignment problem. As I never hit a large pothole or curb, I took it to my VW dealer, (VW of Springfield, VA). They managed to get VW to pay for the alignment, as my it was off when checked. Nice!!! My VIN # was 13,9xx.
