Gears won't shift from park. What's wrong? Is it the neutral safety switch?

View 5 RepliesI have a 95 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series that is not automatically locking doors whenever I shift the car out of the Park position. I am wondering if the door locks have to be programmed or if there is somewhere else to check or both.
View 1 Replies1992 Buick Park Avenue, Base. For awhile now I've had trouble shifting into park from other gears. Sometimes, it'll flow right into park without trouble. Other times, I have to work it, to kind of baby it in. However, it simply will not shift into park from reverse. Period. If I'm in reverse and want to park, I have to go into drive, neutral, etc, and then try to move it into park.
A mechanic I know looked at the neutral safety switch and thought it could be causing the problem. We figured it wasn't in the steering column or the cable to the switch because if we disconnect the cable, you can slide that lever all day long. So I purchased a new neutral safety switch and had him install it, but the same problem is there. Actually, let me clarify: while it was in his garage, with the old switch, it would no longer go into park at all, regardless (kind of decided to just stop altogether). At least with the new switch we can baby it into park, but it is basically back to where it was last week. He mentioned it might be deeper in the transmission, but that's out of his league.
This just happened today. The car will no longer shift pack into park, all the way up the car is still in reverse. All other gears are working fine. What could be wrong with it?
View 5 Repliesi've got an accord 4 cylinder with an automatic transmission that does not engage any of the other gears when i shift it out of park. all indicator lights are out except for the park position on the dash.
View 1 RepliesI have a 94 lincoln towncar and the air suspension is not turning on and I am dragging over the smallest bumps. I have checked the fuse on the main fuses but it is fine.
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 2002 Lincoln Town Car with 204,000 miles but it runs like a champ. The Problem Is It burns too much gas i filled the tank up and2 days later I'm at a 1/4 tank without driving very much. My fuel economy states that i'm getting 8.5 miles a gallon this number goes up and down. I changed the oil and air filter still having the same problem. I need to know what I can Do to fix this I have heard the plugs and possibly the coils but I would like to know if there is more or perhaps something else I will be doing the work mostly myself.
View 14 RepliesOk I have a friend with this car and said it kept over heating. I went and looked at it and found the source of the leak. It's right after the heater core. The hose comes out and into the engine. Where the hose slides onto the engine has a leak . It looks like the piece can unscrew and be replaced but I don't know what it's called.
View 1 RepliesI have a 1997 Lincoln towncar with the air suspension. After parked for overnight I found the car sagging in the rear so I thought a air bag went out so I thought I would take it in to get fixed but the next few nights nothing happen the car stayed level then the next night it went down then the next few nights it stays level.
I took it to the dealer and they told me they see nothing wrong and kept it over night and it did not go down. It is like a roll of the dice if it stays level or goes down. I sprayed the air bags and the lines to them with soap water to see if I could find any leaks but I did not see anything.
The compressor is buried so unless I know that is the problem I am not going to rip everything apart to not find a leak or is that where I should be starting. If the car is running everything stays level and no light is on. I do not want coils in the car I like the air suspension.
I replaced the Air shocks with regular springs from a conversion kit I purchased on EBAY. The instructions to disable the "Check Air Suspension" light were included in the kit. I followed these instructions without success. I disconnected pin #11 from the wire harness under the dash, behind the glove box. I then telephones the company and was told to cut the black wire to the air compressor under the hood - below the air filter canister. How do I TURN OFF THIS LIGHT? I own a 1997 Lincoln Town Car signature.
View 14 RepliesI recently have purchased a 2001 Lincoln town car executive edition. I'm having some issues with the brake lights. My running lights blinks and everything work perfect but when I press the brake nothing will light up I've checked all the fuses in the manual and all bulbs seem to be fine.
View 1 Replies1996 lincoln towncar wont start intermittently. Started doing this yesterday, was troubleshooting and my friend jumped the starter to check it and he said it was good. I messed with a few fuses wires and it started up fine. Drove today with no problem, parked and it won't start again... same as yesterday... turn key and all u get is a clicking sound from the inside sounds like under the glovebox in the dash...
View 12 RepliesToday, without explanation the shift indicator on the dash on my 98 Passat Wagon highlights all gears. When you shift to any gear. . . . the display does not change. Further, shifting is rough from 'park.'
I noticed this problem after looking at all the fuses to see why the radio was not powering up. I have checked fuses. . . . and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in.
My 1997 Town Car has had the sound from the dash related to the blend door actuator in other posts. Noise would last for 5 - 10 minutes and go away. Today I noticed when driving I was getting a wild fluctuation in heat when set to automatic on the climate control so I decided to run the diagnostic to verify the blend door problem. I got code 024 so I know it is the actuator. My problem since I ran the diagnostic(exited by pushing defrost) the actuator noise is now constant and I have no heat, only cool air is blowing. Is there a reset I can do for the actuator? It's as if it is stuck in test mode.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car that has an intermittent vibration that can be felt when seating in the car and you move the gear shift lever to D for drive. The car has 141,000 miles. It is an automatic transmission. The vibration cannot be felt when touching the steering wheel. What could be causing the vibration?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 camry LE and for the last few days I am having issues changing gears. I hit the brakes and the gears wont change from park. I can sometimes get it to work by hitting the brakes harder or pumping the brakes.
View 2 RepliesHuge problem. Everything was fine the first couple of times I drove today.
Tonight, when I was getting in the car, it turned on. I tried to change it from Park, but it just stuck and wouldn't move and let me change at all, even down to reverse. It's just stuck in park.
What is wrong with it? What's stuck, and what can I do to get it unstuck? Or else, I'd have to get it towed because it won't budge from park
I have a 98 passat v6. I was changing some fuses today and i restarted the car after that and i noticed the gear selector is solid so i looked in manual and it says car has electrical malfunction, how to get the car out of this mode i have had no problems until I touched the fuses ...
View 3 RepliesAfter driving around hard for a couple minutes I got home and the car smelled like something is burnt then I went out to drive normally to get the smell out but didn't work. Then I realized my gears were hard to move into especially 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Its hard to change into those gears now. what could be the reason? What do i need to do for my gears to move smoothly again? I just got this car, my first.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1997 chevy s10. Speedometer stopped working..abs lights come on once in awhile and wont shift into other gears. I have replace speed sensor, computer, wheel sensor and ignition switch assembly.
