Touareg :: Ticking, Clicking And All Sorts Of Loud Noises With AC On
Jul 8, 2007
It seems that my a/c, after a "flapper" was replaced, is clicking, ticking, and making all sorts of loud noises with the a/c on. Once the system is put above 74 degrees the knocking and noises go away. The noises seem to emit from directly behind the radio.

I have a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid (automatic). The car has a bit under 200,000 miles on it, and has been used in a lot of long distance commuting and driving. We do pretty frequent check ups on it, and checked oil/other fluids last week -- all were good (the oil is admittedly getting close to needing a change, but definitely not within the next few weeks).
I was on the return trip of a 300+ mile drive when I noticed a rapid clicking/ticking sound roughly under the right side (passenger side) dash of the car. It was not affected by turning, accelerating or braking. The clicking was not constant, not very loud (I did not notice it over my music at first) and would come and go. If it was affected by anything, it appeared to come or go when a bump was hit, but that also wasn't necessarily always the case (hit bumps and it didn't stop, hit bumps and it didn't start). I checked wheel wells and under car for objects (suspension is a bit worn and car is low to begin with, so it rides close to ground and this has been a problem before; didn't seem similar) and there was nothing.
Google has led me to the possibility of sticky lifters, and though the sound is similar-ish, I am under the impression that this would be a much more constant noise and I am also fairly confident in the current quality of my oil.

I noticed when I take off quickly from a stop while turning left I hear a very loud ticking from the front left of the car. The ticking continues until I let off the gas and straiten the vehicle up. I can only hear it when I have the window down. It sounds like the lifters are ticking but I don't think it's that. I had the oil changed less than 4k ago and the oil still looks clean. I currently have about 25k on it. I tried to search the forum with no luck. What could this be?

I recently had a good amount of work done to my Mk4 R32. Last night on my drive home from the stealership I ended up with a passenger headlight out and a very loud clicking/ticking noise which seems to be coming from the Serpentine belt area. After closer inspection it looks like the tensioner lines are't lined up which means my belt and tensioner need to be replaced? I'm not sure, but I have a video and this picture.

I just bought a 2004 4.2 V8 Touareg with issues. Engine has oil. Tried to start it but no start. I could hear a loud ticking from passenger (right) side cam upon cranking. I removed all plug wires from right side cam and now it starts and runs on drivers side (left) only. Getting spark from all disconnected wires. Car will drive forward and back and check engine light flashes. Reconnected right side plug wires and no start.
I notice one of the plastic intake manifold arms connected to a rubber bellow was broken. I assume that's for O2 sensor/warm up so probably wouldn't prevent the engine from cranking.
What do I do next? Remove valve cover and look for camshaft damage? Bad cam sensor cause this? I'd rather not drop a rebuilt motor in it but I also don't want to throw $5k of parts at it. Car is for my soon to be 16 year old son (maybe it's safer as a four banger!).

I noticed today when my Touareg is running but in park, each time I step on the brake I hear a loud clicking noise coming from the shifter. I assume the noise is the safety lock engaging and disengaging that allows you to put the car in gear while the brake pedal is pressed. I never noticed the noise before but usually I have the radio on. Is it normal to be able to hear this noise?

Ticking sound from the engine compartment. Here are the clues:
Have observed this since at least probably 2009. Affects a 2000 Saturn LW1 with DOHC 4-cylinder engine.
It's a mechanical "ticking" sound that seems to come from the right side under the hood.
It only happens in cold weather.
It typically starts a couple of minutes after the car is first started up on a cold morning.
It typically goes away when the engine warms up (after several minutes).
It always repeats at the same rate, maybe about 7?8 ticks per second.
It is independent of engine RPM.
It is independent of vehicle speed
Sometimes (but not always) it stops when you lift your foot off the accelerator (it may tend to do this after the engine has warmed up a bit). When you depress the accelerator it resumes It doesn't seem to affect performance but I'd love to know what it is and whether I need to worry.

I have a 1.8i golf 3.... I am Getting the ticking noise from the engine/head, not really sure what it is. I went to one mechanic who said it was the hydraulic lifters which i did change but no difference.
the noise gets louder when i accelerate even when parked, what i have noticed is when I accelerate when driving the noise gets louder and when i put my clutch in to change a gear the noise starts to drop but makes some kind of a winding noise.

My car makes a ticking noise as soon as I turn the key to the 'on' position. The ticking continues once the engine begins running and stops shortly afterward (maybe 10 - 15 seconds). I'll attach a video of the ticking after the car is already running. I've checked the service light. It is the catalytic converter. I'm pretty sure this is a separate problem, but am not sure what is causing it.

My v-10 was clicking after starting (not the manifold or loose plug) until I hit the gas and it would go away so I figured I would start with an oil change and a new filter. Since I would have to drive 55 miles for a Motorcraft filter I headed for the auto parts store. I noticed on the box it said it had an anti-drain-back valve in it for startup. After some research I discovered these modular engines require that to keep the oil in the top end for start ups..................problem solved.

I own a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited. Awhile back, I received an TSB announcement for possible clicking noises due to some of the door welds breaking off.
Well, I am getting very loud clicking noises and I'm afraid I'm affected by the TSB.
I called one dealer around me and he said it will take the 3 days because they have to send it to a body shop to have them take the doors apart, weld around the doors, then possibly repaint the door due to the paint being affected by the heat from welding.

I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. Back in November 2014 my car began giving me trouble starting, making clicking noises when I turn the key. My mechanic told me I needed an alternator so I had him install one. A few weeks after that I had the same problem. He told me a wire leading to the alternator was bad and he replaced it. A few weeks after that the exact same thing happened. He said another wire was bad. I asked him to check all the wires, which he says he did. Back in June of this year my car started giving me problems starting again. Every now and then it would click when I turned the ignition key. Finally, I went back to my mechanic and this time he said I needed a new starter. This was July. Then, last week, my battery light came on while I was driving. Long story short, I had to replace my alternator again. It's only been 9 months! Coupled with all this, both my back lights are out; my right turn signal is out, most of the time, every now and then it works, and sometimes my windshield wipers won't come on.

Where do I start, 97 Passat VR6 Wolfsburg Edit, 01M trans with AAA engine. 140000 miles. Here is what it is doing! Starts and runs fine.....until I stop, turn the car off, let the fans cool the engine, and then try to start it up again. Then All breaks loose. Car is running rich, almost dieing, sputtering, throws ALL sorts of engine and transmission codes. Everything from MAF sensor to misfire to trans solenoids, I mean the codes are all across the board. Then I can take my generic scanner and reset the CEL and all is good for a couple of miles.
Now, here is what I have done to the car:Tranny: new synthetic oil and filter, removed, cleaned and replaced the valve body with new solenoids, and complete wiring harness, NEW Transmission Control Module. All new 3 New trans sensors, 1 Trans Speed Sensor and 2 other sensors, g38 and g68 i think.
Engine: New, Bosh,Synthetic Oil and filter, New Ignition Switch and Key and tumbler.New Valve Cover Gasket,Bosh, Plugs and New Bosh Plug Wires., Brand New Vw ignition, Brand New Bosh, Auxiliary Water Pump and rubber gromets. New tires,...Pulled floor pan carpet out and dried up mat after the rain where my daughter left the passenger side window and sunroof open. I will try to drive it today without turning any of the lights on the dash on to see if possibly I have an electrical issue with the dash and lights or something.

So I was at my friend's shop today getting something done and since I wouldn't have to pay for it, I had him hook up the OBD scanner. Turns out the check engine light I've been having sporadically show up is P0420. After getting this, I had the sinking feeling of knowing finally what the problem was. Recently I've been having some very loud noises coming from my exhaust, and not from the tips where it should be. So we jacked up the car, and what do I find? The connection right behind the catalytic converter where it connects to the rest of the rear exhaust was compromised. Apparently I had scraped the exhaust a couple times too forcefully and it separated at the flange and the gasket is no longer sealing. So here's my question. I have the TRD CAT-back exhaust. Is there a generic universal gasket that I can use to replace the leaking one? Or am I looking at needing to find a shop to make one?

My Prius is 07 with 146k in southern California, for two days every morning I took a short trip to a store then when driving back home the prius battery lost bars fast and I lost power with all sorts of warning lights. Then I drive off with no problems for the entire day. I disconnected the aux battery and that reset the Error codes, I checked the inverter pump and works properly, I checked the aux battery and shows 12v when off and 13.9v -14v when on. This happens every morning so I suspect it's the aux battery. 3months ago my dash lights went out and rebooted the car with no problems.

Was tinkering on my car this morning, and at first noticed one side had a bigger gap than the other. Ok, I really need to change strut mount bushings, no big deal. Then I actually looked closer, and they both have some lean to them, but the drivers side is much more than the other one. Is this normal? I've never noticed any play in control arm bushings or anything. So what could be causing this? I would assume they are meant to sit flat but maybe not?

I hate trolling for a diagnosis, but my trip to the dealer left me frustrated. 2011 GTI with 33k miles and APR stage 1 flash. Just within the last 2 weeks my car has developed a faint ticking sound during light acceleration. The sound stops when I left off the gas and is not present at idle. If I accelerate normally the exhaust note and turbo drown out the noise. How faint the noise is, if the roads are wet the road noise will drown the clicking/ticking noise out above 20mph. The dealer stated they could not duplicate ( raining today) and that it is due to improper install of the waste gate actuator rod clip.
The sound associated with the actuator was only present when accelerating moderately to heavy and sounded like rocks in a can. Not sure if an improper install of the clip could occur as it is pretty straight forward. I did the install over a year ago and never heard what I am hearing now.
