My Treg starts to idle erratically. It feel as if it want to stall once every 30 seconds. Other than that it drives great. I talked to the dealer and they said that this is typical of VW's engine. It does not make sense. I did not experienced this when I first bought the car.
View 7 RepliesMy car is a 2005 V6 Touareg. It has 60.000 kilometers on it and had no major issues to this date. It was well maintained. Recently, it developed a problem with starting. Before I go into more details, I have to tell this: my car has two batteries, and they are in perfect condition, verified by the dealer. The spark plugs were changed at 45.000 kilometers. It has no rough running characteristics under heavy acceleration or any hesitation - from what I read, symptoms for bad ignition coils-.
When I turn the key for ignition, the engine turns over but instead of immediately starting, keeps cranking for 2-3 seconds, and finally starts with a slow idle. Sometimes the charging light remains on for several seconds due to the difficult starting and the slow idle, but this does not last and the cars start idling normally, as if nothing happened. This happens when the car sits overnight and the engine is cold. Once it starts, I cannot get the car to do this without waiting overnight. Summertime weather seems to contribute to this but I still get it in the cold winter weather.
Strangely, if I do not use the car for, say, 3 days, the car starts like the day I bought it, without the hesitation.
I took it to a dealer and told them to check it but they said it start normally. They checked to see if the car registers any error but it does not. I am sure of the quality of the fuel I am using. In any case, I tried several different brands from different stations just in case, but this did not make any difference.
Bad ignition coil, idling sensors or mechanism, something wrong with the intake manifold? Carbon build-up (although I have to say this is not likely since the catalytic converter seems to be fine which leads me to believe there is no excessive carbon buildup).
My Santa Fe driving me crazy. Have a 2002 Santa Fe 4 cyl with a problem. It will start when cold and run normal about 2 minutes. Then it starts running erratically like a misfire. If you let it idle this way it will stall quickly and not restart until totally cold again the next day. If you catch it quick enough and continually pump the throttle it continues to run rough until it starts to warm up. As it warms up the engine slowly improves until it reaches operating temp. At this point the misfire is much less but still there. If you shut it off for more than 10 minutes it will not start until the next day. There are no codes at this time. I have changed the coolant temp. sensor, the cam position sensor, fuel pump and screen, spark plugs and wires. I have also verified all timing marks on the crank, cams, etc. The crank sensor was replaced about 40k ago when the timing belt was replaced. What can I look for now???
View 2 Replies1993 f-150 with 1988 5.0 with no pollution stuff fuel injected. here's the problem. Starts fine and idles great for about 5 minutes , check engine light comes on and it very nearly stalls at which point it begins to miss and surge and basically tries to die.
If I feather the Throttle i can keep it running but not smooth!! Can't find and vacuum leaks and the egr seems to be working (push plunger up - trk). dies. Ran fine when I bought it this way about 1 year ago and all of a sudden this. note.... It started doing this after it ran low on coolant but did not over-heat.
Engine idles erratically after it warms up. Strong sucking air sound from throttle body as engine idles from low to high. I have no codes on ODB II.
View 3 RepliesMy 09 Sonata LTD V6 was sometimes idling erratically (revving and slowing) after starting a cold engine. It never happened in the previous 3 winters I have owned it. I took it to the dealer for service and they said an ECM update was just released, described on the invoice as "TSB 10FL002 FOR COLD START ROUGH IDLE".
View 2 RepliesThe other day I bought an sct tuner for my excursion and its been a little glitchy, likes to freeze up and lock out my ecu.
I was driving yesterday and today I try to turn it on and my engine knocks badly revs erratically and all gauges weren't working so i shut it off. I tried to start up again and it flashes the theft light and abs light. Won't crank won't do anything my whole engine is locked out.
So i tried reverting the ecu back to stock. I did this several times once it simply lost power and shut off at the end another time it said wrong vehicle and the final time it said completed.
Now when i try to start up it does the same thing and will not do anything but flash lights at me... When I downloaded the file it said select vehicle: 6.0 superduty. That was the only choice, and the guy at the store said that the truck tuner will work in my excursion I specifically asked if this works in the ex.
I really need my truck otherwise I will he paying hundreds in taxi fare. I tried calling the store and sct but both are closed on weekends.
Cold start. engine starts but wont idle, just dies. rpms drop. Restart same. Must neutral drop to get going keep rpms up until engines shifts then things are fine until next cold start. Cleaned throttle, changed air filter, dry gas, injector cleaner, no warning signal, scans clean. 180k miles.
View 6 RepliesRecently bought a 2001 Accent that has been experiencing a 'rough idle' for the last few weeks. Basically, after I've driven the car for a few minutes (from a cold engine position) and then stop at a stop light or stop sign, I can hear the engine get louder and the car starts to vibrate slightly, after I've driven for about 15 minutes at higher speeds and then stop again I can actually see the steering wheel shaking when I take my hands off of it. If i put the car in park when I am stopped and the engine is on, the idle calms down quite a bit. The weird part is that when I first start driving the car in the morning, the rough idle problem doesn't happen until about 5 minutes of steady driving - so when the engine is colder I don't experience the problem, The problem is not that serious, and Ive already brought it into a dealer who cleaned out fuel injection, gave me a major tune up and replaced all the spark plugs, but the problem still persists. I am gonna bring it back to them but they seem a bit lost to be honest. Other than this the car is driving normally when I am not idling.
View 14 Replies2000, 2.5L standard transmission. IAC replaced about 2 years ago, DPFE sensor and vacuum hoses replaced early last summer. Truck has been running just fine until I washed it last night. Went to work, and when coming to a stop and pressing in the clutch, engine starts to race without coming back to idle. Had to turn the truck off in order to get the engine from racing. Same thing on the way home. What else can/should I be looking at? I did not open the hood to wash the engine off, so it can't be water from the wash.
View 7 RepliesMy 3.0 with 216k miles has developed a rough idle and it progressively got better with new parts and cleanings. On startup it revs up to 2k then back down to 600. If I let it idle for about 8 or so minutes my Check Engine Light starts flashing. If I drive about for a little bit it stops and is just fine.
While the light is flashing I get codes P1000, P0305, P0306, and P0316. Which are OBDII Monitor Testing Not Complete, Misfire detected in Cyl 5, Misfire detected in Cyl 6 and Engine Misfire Detected on Startup (First 1000 Revolutions) respectively. Any other time the truck runs like a dream. Gets 20 city and 29.5 highway.
I cleaned my Mass Air Flow, replaced my Idle Air Control, SeaFoamed throttle body and vacuum lines, brand new coil pack, new wires, new plugs, new fuel filter, I've only ever run 91 octane, Chevron with Techron goes in at every oil change and B12 every other and I just ran 3 bottles of Lucas fuel injector cleaner.
2004 F150 5.4 3v. I bought the truck with 102k on it, it now has 124k. In the morning, when the outside temp is between 30-50, the engine starts and runs fine. When I get to the first red light ( about 1 mile away) within seconds of the engine at idle, engine starts to run rough and CEL. Every time the code is p0351. If I let it sit in the driveway to full warm up... no problem. If I start the truck, shut it off and restart...no problem. It only happens at the cooler temps. I have changed plugs, used motorcraft, nickel antiseize, torqued, etc. Ford changed the coil, I have changed the coil, cleaned MAF. As soon as I cross the intersection, light stays on, rough running clears up, and runs like a champ for the rest of the day.
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2008 5.4L I just bought. The previous owner just ran around the city and never pulled anything with it. After the truck has been pulling and the engine is hot, when I slow down to an idle the engine starts to diesel. This lasts for a few seconds then goes back to normal. Is this just because the engine isn't used to working and the computer hasn't adjusted yet? is this something that could be serious and I should have checked out by a garage?
View 4 Replies2005 VW Tuareg, 67,000 miles. Engine sputtering and bucking - but only under specific circumstance. If I drive the car over 40 mph for even a short distance and then turn the engine off, the car will start back up normally the next time I start it. But if I were to move the car, say, from the driveway to the street then turn the engine off, the next time I start it, the engine would sputter and buck at idle. It would also buck when I put it in gear and run roughly until I hit above 40 mph, then it would smooth out. Thus, the problem only presents itself if the engine is turned on and the car not allowed to run above 40 mph before it is turned off again. The engine light is on, and the dealership says it's cam adjusters not working right,i.e., meaning BIG $$ to fix. Does that sound plausible?

Its a 07 v8 with 25k mileage. i started it up idled fine for 30 secs, then the idle started to get erratic up and own for 15 secs leveled off and the car ran fine. I drove for 10 minutes turned the car off for a couple of hours came ack started her up and engine light came on no rough idle or anything.
View 8 RepliesFilled tank with 8 gallons of 91 octane to top off. One hour later noticed car running rough at idle then check engine light comes on. Could it be the coil pack? Car has been running very well until now, and this Gremlin appears. I don't think it's the gas.

View 7 RepliesI am new to the all wheel drive breed. When I turn the all wheel drive knob one click over to the right (4x4 low I believe) how much rougher should the shifting be. I notice it starts in 2nd gear, but 2-3 shift jolts the car to the point it almost snaps your neck(not WOT just normal accelaration). Each subsequent shift is a little smoother, but still very noticably rough. Is this normal? Even in the regular high mode, sometimes my regular around town low throttle shifts are pretty jolting.
View 4 RepliesMy brother in law drives a 97 Vr6 Passat (150K miles) that has started acting up. I'm a mechanic by trade, but he lives 800 miles away. The car started to miss and run erratically, and finally died. He took it to his regular mechanic and they installed a cam sensor. This worked, but it still ran poorly. They ran a compression check and say it has 180 psi in all holes on one bank, and 100 in all holes in the other. They are ready to condemn the engine.
View 2 RepliesThe transmission was rebuilt approximately 8,000 miles ago. It now shifts erratically instead of smoothly when you take off from a dead stop. Sometimes it will go from 1st to 3rd. When you come to a stop, it downshifts erratically also. The fluid level is correct. The truck is a 1967 GMC pick-up with 1969 350 engine. Transmission about the same year.
View 3 RepliesI recently bought a 2004 V10 TDI. When it is quite cold outside, below -15C my Treg will not start, it starts sometimes but will stall immediately. I cannot get it started unless I wait a few days until it is warmer out. When I start it, I wait for the glow plug light to go out but it only takes less than a second, is that normal? I am thinking its the diesel gelling and I need to add an additive to it possibly, or do I need to replace my glow plugs. If I am persistent, I can sometimes get it going after 10 or 12 attempts but I feel I am going to overheat the starter so I am scared to do that often, once started, it runs fine but has tons of CEL codes which are all glow plug errors, I will clear them off, and they will not return.
