Hearing the noise coming from B-pillar air vent on driver side while a/c is on? It's quite noticeable. While I'm at the topic of wind noise, do you also notice that when driving on a two-lane hwy, the wind noise leaks from the rear sunshade opening on the door panel when driving by the opposite traffic?
View 1 RepliesI have always has a lot of wind noise from the b-pillar on the driver's side (not passenger) over 80 mph... and it's not coming from the mirror...
I think I remember something about a vent or breathing hole in the b-pillar that's supposed to be open...but when covered causes wind roar at elevated highway speeds...
Having persistent wind noise from around the driver's door right at the "A" pillar. I've been to two different dealerships with no resolution. I don't need any home remedy solutions as I've done just about everything humanly possible to fix it myself. Tape, 1/4" vinyl tubing, foam insulating tape, moving the door striker nothing works. VWOA is now involved and they are clueless as well.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2011 limited and around 41 mph I get a lot of wind noise from the top of the driver side A pillar. I did some research and it seems like it's a known issue. During my research I found there may have been an advisory issued (T-TT-0065-10) by Toyota, but the dealer can't find a record of it.
I've heated the seals / molding around the top of the door and re-fluffed it which didn't work. The seals are doing their job. When I pressure wash the car no water is getting in (never did). Tried sealing the gaps with blue painters tape to stream line the gaps and that didn't work. I'm pretty sure the noise isn't caused by the seal. It's difficult to pinpoint.
And, mods, this probably should be a separate thread since it's prpobably not related to the other issues.
I suddenly noticed some wind noise at the driver's side B-pillar the other day, almost like my window wasn't closed tight. But it was. So later on, I checked the outside of the window and found that the little external rubber seal on the rear vertical portion of the door frame was kinked and not laying flat. This is where the window moves up and down in its channel on the trailing edge.
I managed to press the seal back in place and it solved the problem ... but the next time I rolled my window down and back up, it kinked again.
My car is now at the dealer awaiting a new seal. For some reason, it decided to start scrunching up the seal when the window is raised, and the seal has to be replaced.
So if you hear wind noise over your left shoulder (or your passenger over his/her right shoulder) check that the little narrow black rubber seal is where it should be ... laying flat.
I'm having a real issue with wind noise coming from the A pillar area. I've been to the dealer twice and still have no resolution yet. When I went in today and showed them where the wind noise is coming from the tech. just stood there dumbfounded like he's never came across this problem before. Tried blaming it on wind noise around the mirror. I showed them how when you close the door on a dollar bill there is hardly and force needed to pull the bill out. They adjusted the door striker the first time which didn't work any. There are some major alignment issues with the door and the seal. It's so bad water leaked inside the car during a heavy rain.
View 1 RepliesI found a fix for excessive wind noise around the mirror and "A" pillar area. There is a gap between the side window and the mirror housing. This gap must be filled to alleviate the problem. An Audi forum suggested rubber tubing to fill the area. I've found a better solution in using adhesive backed wool felt insulation strips. Grainger Supply company sells the strips in 12" lengths. I used the 1/4"W x 3/8"T x 12"L. piece. You have to do some trimming to get the correct fit but it worked great. Clean the area with alcohol before applying.

I'm getting what I feel is excessive wind noise almost like my window is cracked open. I'm sure this is something the dealer would be able to fix under warranty correct?
When the rear windows are open without any of the front windows open, the wind buffeting noise is deafening.
View 2 RepliesOver the last 6 months I have had my car back to the dealer to look into wind noise and a knocking noise from the door mirror. At first they just kept saying they couldn't find anything wrong, then they said there was a fault report for the mirror and had the car in to get it fixed, but the noise is still there intermittently. After numerous returns for the wind noise I noticed that if I push on the door or the window it gets noticeably louder - the dealer took the car back in and said they adjusted the door but I still have both noises - they are intermittently better or worse. What the cause is - the dealer has suggested changing the door seal but wants me to pay for it and I am concerned I will end up paying out and still not get the problem fixed. As for the mirror I just don't know what to do....
View 4 RepliesI have a rather annoying high pitched tone coming from the front passengers side widow/mirror area. The dealer says it's normal wind noise from the mirror and can't do anything about it. I think they are just being lazy, and I think it's actually a window seal issue.
Here are more details; I hear the noise typically only at speeds above 60-65mph, although I have heard it as low as 40mph, but was driving into a head wind (so the combined air speed was about the same). It is a high-pitched, high-frequency noise that almost sounds like a continuous tone. It is loud enough to be annoying even with the radio on at moderate volume. It will disappear completely at speeds lower than mentioned above. It is localized only to that one side. The drivers side mirror/window is silent (for this issue at least) no matter what speed I am going.
A recent road trip gave enough frustration on this issue to make me begin experimenting. I taped up various mirror seams in a number of configurations and none alleviated the noise. At one point I rolled down the window about an inch to see If I could hear it more clearly from the window. The noise disappeared but I thought the turbulent wind noise at that speed might be masking it. So I rolled the window up and then just *tapped* the switch down the slightest amount and to my surprise the high-pitched noise disappeared completely, yet I did not open it enough to hear regular wind noise. This all leads me to highly suspect a window seal issue, and not mirror noise at all. Cracking the seal so slightly must allow the pressure to equalize canceling out the noise.
When I took it in for the issue they say (of course) "Can not replicate, wind noise from mirror within factory spec, no action taken" and something about cracking the window "re-aligns the flow over the mirror into the cabin reducing the noise" sounds because the drivers side is as silent as the grave, and the mirrors are symmetrical to my knowledge.
As it is, my roof racks are separated, as if they were going to carry skis or something else on them. I notice a typical wind noise at highways speeds, not unpleasant, but I wonder if I put them together at the rear, or took them off altogether, it would make much difference. Also, as I take off on cold mornings, I notice exhaust fumes collect on the rear window, then immediately evaporate away.
View 3 RepliesI've successfully managed to ignore the clicking noise coming from the vent system long enough that it eventually went away but I now have no air coming out from the footwell area on both the driver and passenger side. I am guessing that the diverter flap mechanism has either simply broken or is mechanically frozen in a certain position.
The air flow to the dash and defrost vents is fine. If I manually set the system to have all air come from the lower vents, there is a loud wind noise as the air is trying to force its way around a closed flap. Is this an easy fix or another expensive and problematic trip to the dealer?
My 2013 Sonata came with a sunroof wind deflector. I'm somewhat hesitant to install it, since it might increase wind noise. It also might affect MPG. I like the looks of it, at least the pics I've seen of it.
View 12 RepliesWhile driving with a friend today he noticed no air coming out of the rear vents(the ones between the front and back door windows). We played around with all the controls and read the manual but nothing. Air was coming out the rear middle console.
Are these vents part of the four-zone option which I don't have or am I missing something
I have a 2005 Touareg TDI european model, with an anoying whistling sound somewhere in the drivers door or the b-pillar. The sound is not constant, but change according to the settings to the fan. I have been to the VW dealer, but they have not found any solution to my the problem yet.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004.5 Gli that I'm getting really excited to fix. First question as a Noob how many miles can I get out of the engine with regular up keep. It has 140k? I just had the timing belt and water pump done and it feels great but i dont want to get into a huge money sandpit.
There is water getting in when it rains which has caused the liner to lift off of the A pillar and the B pillar gets moist as well. No damage to the head liner at all just the pillars and the door liner has gotten damaged and lifted. I've already checked the the sun room drains/drain nipples they work great.
I have to get the front end fixed- New valance and paint. I'm sure this will have to wait till next summer so i can save the funds to have a good paint job/blend of the hood and fenders. Plus my driver side door needs a touch up after being keyed.
After searching the forum all day yesterday i found the color code for the rc's and was going to get them powder coated due to curb rash and really bad chips. But is the oem brilliant silver color the best for the Grey metallic color GLi?
Obviously I am wanting to first work on the exterior aesthetics of the car first. Engine performance is fine, I am not a heavy footed driver on the streets and on the hwy it does fine at 90. But I do see a chip and FMIC in the next year being a possibility.
Whistling sound from the pillar vents behind the driver and passenger sides? I get the whistling sounds from the passenger side when the fan is on a certain speed.
View 4 RepliesAny spec sheet for installing the doors or aligning them. I have been having a problem with the driver's door not sitting properly at the bottom left corner along the A pillar. This causes the first part of the triple seal system [the Touareg has] to be compromised, thus letting in water if submerged.

I noticed that very little air came out of the vent when riding shotjun and thought it might be because the vent was open in the glove box. The vent pops right out and I saw that the cable was not connected to the vent, as it should be?
