Touareg :: Whine That Occurs Between 70 To 73 Mph
Apr 4, 2006
I have a whine that occurs while I am between 70-73mph. The sound goes away when I take my foot off the accelerator. I can sometimes but not easily make it occur at around 40mph as well. The sound is barely noticeable, but definitely there if you listen carefully. What it could be? I have a late 05 model and I have tested without the roof racks.
I also would lke to know if it is normal to hear something similar to a chain turning, this time when you let off the pedal and let the car just cruise. You can only hear it with the windows open especially inside a parking garage. I would think it is normal for the V8 engine or AWD setup, but not sure.

V8 driving from start up in cold conditions (below +15 Deg F) car parked outside overnight, I hear a transmission whine when decelerating. The whining rises and lowers in pitch as the tranny downshifts upon slowing down. It has only started doing this recently.
After the car has warmed up, the noise disappears. However, I find that it is strange that the car would suddenly start doing this, as I have driven that car in years past without the noise. If it had I would put it down to normal warm up noise.

I have noticed a high-pitched whine coming from the front end at high speeds. Above 90-95 mph any use of the accelerator results in a high-pitched noise, unrelated to RPMs. Past 120 it starts sounding pretty bad/loud. My guess is that the fuel pump is sucking so much gas that it is having issues, or the throttle control is just unhappy in that range.

The vehicle is a 2005 Touareg 4.2 v8 with 81k miles. I purchased from a dealership and have been having nothing but problems from the day I purchased it. (2 months ago) the day after I purchased it check engine light came on, headlight range light, air bag light, and now this noise I have owned about 15 vag cars and also own vagcom no codes pertaining to this noise... Above 10-15mph there is an intermittent whine (high pitched) for the most part the noise is there most of the time.
It does not stop when in neutral not effected when the air is off or on, does not change if you down shift, no change if the wheels are turned. I broke down and took it to a very trustworthy Audi shop in the area and you guessed it the entire way there no noise... The tech drove it no noise so I had them flush and fill the trans as it was due for it anyways. They informed me that it was dirty and I figured that it may have taken care of it. Well after a 20 minute drive home the noise started again! I took a short video....

Just installed a Phatbox in my customer's Touareg. With engine running, there is a hum which turns into a whine with engine revving up. VW Service does not have a fix from factory yet. I suspect it needs a filter (capacitor) to suppress RF coming from the ignition system.

All of a sudden after coming back from an Alsp ski trip some sort of loud front drivetrain whine has developed. It's an 05 V8 with 4k miles on it. It's drivetrain because the whine scales with road speed and not engine rpm. It seems to only come from the front too. It starts to get real noticeable around 50mph and increases.
The odd part is I can turn the steering wheel maybe a quarter of a deflection either direction and the sound virtually disappears. I checked out the tires and the tear is good and no usual wear. I am thinking maybe a wheel bearing or a transmission output bearing. I just don't see how anything else could make this whine come out of nowhere so quickly.

This winter when car warms to temperature and with climate control in auto I get fairly loud grinding/whine sound from area behind radio.
If I turn fan off, still get sound; like dampers are moving and rubbing trying to adjust. Set vent buttons to center or top and will stop for a while. Reset to auto and noise starts with or without fan on.
Last trip to dealer they claimed it would not do it; seems like the car has to be warm and outside temperature below 35F. Do the dampers work - vacuum or electrical? Don't remember the problem last winter, this year have had condensate tsb done and also had dealer replace main control module. Wondering if they could have pinch hose or some how caused binding.

I have a 2012 Santa FE AWD - approx 8,000 miles. I've experienced a noise ever since I purchased the car that occurs exactly when I hit 75 mph and above. I've taken it to the dealer 4 or 5 times without a resolution. The noise is a pulsating, humming sound, but isn't constant. It comes and goes frequently at various intensities. I also get a slight vibration in the gas pedal and in the steering wheel, but my issue is related to the noise as it can get quite loud. I originally thought that it was a tire balance issue but the tires have been balanced and then again road force balanced. It has Kumho tires.

I have been chasing a vibration that occurs around 60-70 MPH. Had all the tires re-balanced and checked the rest of the suspension and narrowed it down to the rear driveshaft.
Took the X to the driveshaft shop and he checked all the joints and suggested that I grease the slip joint as it still was original as delivered. Here's what I did.
Removed the rear bolts and dropped the rear of the shaft. Cut off the factory boot clamps. Marked the shaft so it could go back in the EXACT way it came out and removed the rear of the shaft with the boot intact. While the rear of the shaft was out I checked the joints and found them to be perfect.
There was no real grease to speak of left, just the factory ford blue. Filled it and the splines with moly grease and re-installed the shaft and boot. Clamped the boot with nylon ties (per his suggestion). No vibration any longer. Thought I would post this up as a quick tip.

I have a 2007 XLE-V6, bought new 10/2006, 39,500mi., and recently I had the issue of the bursting oil line that others have been having. Prior to that happening, I have been hearing a noise from the engine since the beginning of December. The noise is a ticking sound/knocking sound that occurs as I accelerate in 1,2, and 3rd gear on cold starts. This noise persists up until the time the engine reaches its ideal operating temperature, and then it just goes away.
The engine "expert" at my local dealership drove in it with me, and it only happens when the vehicle is in drive, not when idling or in reverse, so it has to be in the drivetrain somewhere. He said it shouldn't be a problem, since it does go away, but it's infuriating to hear it every morning and afternoon when I start my car.

Well for a couple of months now I've had a really erratic shudder that occurred at different speeds and at different RPMs... I checked motor mounts, wheel balance, CV Joints, flywheel, etc. and when I took it to my mechanic, he discovered a sliced exhaust hanger in the middle of the exhaust system and nothing else.
Well after replacing this rubber hanger this vibration miraculously stopped occurring. I realized now that the movement of the exhaust which was created over certain roads with undulation caused it to flex harmonically and interrupt the workings of my Koni FSDs.
I really began to think the struts were the culprit but in the end realized the frequency from the loose exhaust was too much for the Frequency Sensing Dampers to counteract as the movements and inertia were opposite the motion of the car itself. She's now smooth as silk at highway speeds once again and only a slight vibration from the race strut bushings which were recently upgraded from stock can be felt through the steering wheel.

I'm hearing a disconcerting sound coming from my car as of late. It's a rattling sound, almost as if someone were shaking a can of spray paint at the same frequency as the engine. It doesn't strike me as being a heat shield, it's a heavier rattling, not really a buzz.
The sound usually occurs when I am above 2000 RPM, however, it does not match an RPM range or the car's speed—it seems more closely associated with the position of the gas pedal—about halfway to 3/4. It does not make the sound unless the car is in gear and moving.
On cold starts, the engine fires and runs, but then takes up to 30-40 seconds to really get going at a normal RPM. Efforts to coax it with the gas pedal are delayed by a second or two before they kick in...
The car is a 2001 model, and has 44,000 miles.

Misfire occurs at highway speed under acceleration, the service writer stated "we have to do a coil swap" meaning they just swap them from around, and this is the SECOND time they have done this, according to them this is how VW wants them to address this, now I understand factory procedures cuz I work for a Porsche dealer, but wouldn't you think second time around you would replace those things.

This just started today while driving home from work, not quite sure how to describe the sound, kinda like a mini jack hammer or rocks in a tumbler (attached video with sound). The weird part is: My car runs well aside from the sound, and the sound goes away when actually driving, only occurs when in park, or stopped. [URL]... (under hood) [URL] ..... (under car)
Opened the hood and jacked up the car to try and find the cause of the noise, sounded like it was coming from the engine, or just underneath (there is a box on the underside, not quite sure what it is, but the sound seems to be louder near there).
On a side note, checked my oil, it's not low. And tried playing around with the pipe leading to the exhaust to see if it was lose - nothing.
Was involved in a hit and run just over 2 weeks ago (front left headlight was smashed, and fender was dented). I'm not sure if that has anything to do with whats happening now.

I've owned my 2015 Base Azera for about 3 weeks. Today I started getting a strange beeping. It's a series of three high pitched identical beeps about every two minutes. It's not real loud and there are no warning lights present. It seems to come from the area of the radio. The beeping occurs even if I'm just sitting in the car with nothing on. It occurs while driving as well. My seat belt is buckled and I made sure that the seat belt warning light goes off when I do so -- so that doesn't seem to be it.

My Phaeton has recently developed a single clunking sound that occurs at low speed, either when braking, or when turning the steering wheel towards the right about 90. The clunk can be felt at the drivers footwell area too.
All four upper control arm bushings were replaced a few months ago and the antiroll bar links are pretty new too.
I have not identified exactly where the noise is coming from, but by placing my hand on all suspension components it seems that the clunk is most felt at the front left rear lower arm. Hence I am wondering if the bushing or the whole arm may need replacement.

Over the past few days I've noticed a clicking sound that occurs when I reach approximately 80 mph. At first I thought the clicking may be coming from somewhere in the dash, but I had my wife listen while I drove and it seems to be coming from near the gas pedal. When I decelerate to about 70, it goes away. The faster I go above 80 mph, the faster the clicking.

So, for some reason my 2004 has had a vibration ever since I bought it. This vibration occurs when in R or D when the car is not moving (stop light, parking e.g.). As soon as I accelerate the vibration goes away. After I bought the car I took it to the dealer to have them fix it and they replaced the engine mounts which made it a little better but not much. Recently the vibration has gotten significantly worse and I'm not sure why. I had the car into the dealer about a month ago to replace an A/C solenoid. Also, Tucson was hit by some torrential rain and I got caught driving through some water deep enough to nearly stall the engine out.

I have a 2000 BMW 323i with 140,000 miles on it, which has intermittent starting problems. This usually occurs after trying to restart the car within 5 to 10 minutes after turning it off. After several attempts and 10 to 15 minutes, the car does always restart. When the problem occurs, the engine does not turn over at all, but the electrical system seems to work. The dealer has been unable to duplicate the problem.

I have a 96 ford escort, 1.9. Recently I've noticed I get a pretty good vibration coming from the front end.
The vibration only occurs when I'm accelerating over 50. When I decelerate over 50 the vibration goes away.
What could be causing this?

Picked up a used 10 prius iv with 31k and have put 1200 miles so far. One troubling thing I have noticed is this weird shudder/vibration that occurs between 30-40mph when the throttle is at the half way point (area between the light green and dark green bar) Vibration similar to that of driving over the rumble strip on the highway but not nearly as harsh and the noise would be similar to when you have one rear window open in the car and it creates the pulsating wind noise.
It doesn't do it all the time and mashing the throttle seems to alleviate the problem. It doesn't happen so much when cruising around town but it happens every time I get near the top of the incline in our office park and the car continues to lose speed until such time as I get back on the gas but it continues to do it until I turn into the parking lot. Occasionally it does it when coasting down a hill with the throttle right near the point of crossing from light green to dark green on the screen.
