Touareg :: Whilst Moving Left Mirror Both Mirrors Move?
Oct 5, 2006
I was trying to adjust the outside mirrors this morning and noticed that when I move the left mirror, it moves both of them, but if I just try to move the right, only the right one moves. Any possible causes/solutions?

On the wife's 300C hemi, the driver's side mirror dips in reverse gear; on my VW, it's the passenger side.
Which is "correct" ?

My left side mirror, motor will move left and right but it will not move up and down. Is there a DIY way to fix this? Is it a motor problem? Can I buy the part and fix it?

Just the other day I noticed that my passenger side mirror will move up and down, but not right and left. Drivers side works fine. The mirrors are all stock, I haven't changed them yet. It's been pretty cold out lately and I recently washed my car (on a warmer day). Could this be the cause?

On my 2005 GX, the passenger side mirror can move only left to right (horizontally) but it cannot go up or down. I did some reading and it looks like this is a 'common' problem with Lexus mirrors due to the auto tilt-down feature. Something inside must be worn out or broken and it does not move any more.
The driver side mirror moves fine in every direction, so i am pretty sure it's not a defective mirror switch. The question is.... since this is such a common problem, is there a fix for it, other than replacing the entire mirror assembly? Is there a "gear kit" or something else that i can buy, disassemble the mirror and fix it?
I found this thread on the LX forum, looks useful [URL] .....

Why this could be and how I can fix it? The driver side mirror can move in all four directions. I've tried unsticking it and pushing with fingers to center it, that doesn't work. I can hear the motor when it goes up and down, but can't hear the motor trying when trying to go left and right.

Got car back from inspection with driver mirror folded in. I popped it back out and tried to adjust, but it would only move up and down a little, and wouldn't move side-to-side at all. I then checked the passenger mirror, which hadn't been touched, and it didn't adjust at all (though it clicked once each time I pressed). When backing up, the driver mirror dropped to the curb position properly, but the passenger mirror didn't budge. Both mirrors had worked well previously and stopped working at the same time.
It seemed unlikely that the motors would give out at the same time, so I first wondered if it could be the switch, but the click seems to indicate that the mirror is getting a signal. So back to things affecting the actual mirrors...
In reading several posts, I came across one poster who seemed to be saying that he had this problem only on hot days, but not on cool days. My problem started (or at least I became aware of it) on the 1st over-90-degree day of the season, so that got my attention. This evening, after the outside temp dropped to the mid-80s, I tried again. This time things were somewhat better, but inconsistent. The driver side mirror moved up and down quite well, but side-to-side just intermittently. The passenger mirror moved slowly in all directions at first, but then stopped working again. I tried again when the temp dipped to 77 - left moved okay in all directions, right moved side-to-side, but not up and down. So it definitely seems to be affected by the outside temperature. I've had the car since March of 2015, and did not run into this problem last summer.
I'm wondering what this all means. Might something be gunking up from the heat, or are parts swelling or warping? I'm thinking of trying the fix posted by LS400_96 on 6/28/15 - if it's the same for an LX - though I truly am scared of breaking something. Or is it possible that it's somehow due to it being the FIRST hot day of the season? Might it adjust to summer if I just leave it alone?

I have a 1999 F250 Superduty with power tow mirrors. Both mirrors are having this issue. It seems both motors moving the mirrors are trying to run at the same time. I tried replacing the control switch since both mirrors are having the issue, but got the same results. Holding the switch to move the mirrors out causes it to move down and out. Moving it in and it goes up and in. I know from experience with electric on a vehicle that when funny things happen, its usually because it lost the ground.

I can move the mirror adjuster switch and I can see the mirror trying to move and can hear clicking, but it won't move. It's like when the mirror has gone all the way in one direction and can't move anymore. But it does it in any position. I have hand-moved them to different positions and no matter where they are, the switch can't make 'em move into a different position. This happens with both mirrors. In case it matters, they are the power towing mirror that have the turn signal integrated on them and also they are heated.

My mirrors on a 2016 explorer don't move when we lock the doors, or move into position when we unlock them.

My passenger side power mirror won't move up and down anymore. It started out just moving very slow, now no moving. Side to side works fine, power folding is fine also. Does the up/down motor is replaceable or do I have to replace the whole mirror.

I've got an 02 Santa Fe with the auto-dimming mirror. The tension that keeps the mirror in position has gotten loose, so the vibration from the road causes it to slowly move downward while driving.
Is there a way to tighten this up? Do I need to remove the mirror from the windshield to do this? (because, I can't even seem to figure out how to do that!)

I just bought a used Japanese made Gen 5 Camry. The passenger rear view mirror does not move correctly. it will go left/right and sometimes down, and the movement does not match the buttons pressed. I've bought 2 replacement mirrors on Amazon and both do the same thing. I tried to swap l/r mirrors for testing. The driver side mirror works fine when plugged into passenger side, but all three passenger side mirrors do not work correctly when plugged into drivers side.
Should I try buying a mirror for a American made Camry? What is the difference?

Can not seem to get the memory to work.....?
The dealer is suggesting the module is bad and is ordering one to address the problem.
Cannot get the mirrors to respond to the setting as well?

If you have turn the engine off if there is a way to close the windows and the side mirrors without putting the key in the lock. Under the steering wheel there are 2 small switches, left and right. When I press the one on the left the light on the steering wheel goes on and off. What the one on the right do???

There's a light under both side mirrors that is supposed to light up when the car is unlocked or when a door is open. However, my lovely Egg doesn't do this. Is there a button on my space ship that i have to push?

I've read the manual and can't find anything about defrosting ice and snow (which we had here in Salt Lake yesterday) from the mirrors on the door. Am I missing something or did VW leave this vital item out of production???

My car has a bad whistle sound from the sidemirrors if I travel at over 40mph, I heard someone else had the same problem and the dealer fixed it but putting something on the mirror.... is there a TSB on this? I'm going to the dealership next week and i would like to see if he can fix it. List of things I have.
- Sometimes when i enter my car and start, my seats don't move back to the previous setting....... I had to hit "1" to get it to move back. it fails 3 out of 10 tries.
- Wind noise from the side mirrors, especially when over 40mph..... whistling sound.
- dash vibration when the weather is cold.... Not sure about this one.
- See if the dealer will turn off my DRL for me.

When I turn my car to the left or right i hear a clicking sound. Usually happens when I am moving slow, like when backing into a driveway or parking spot. Could this be a tie rod, ball joint, or what? How can I be sure before just replacing parts? I need to have this fixed before I get my alignment, which has to happen before I get my rims.
