Touareg :: When Accelerating Car Oversteer In The Direction Of Turn
Jan 6, 2005
I've been experiencing a weird problem lately when accelerating from a stop and heading around a gradual curve while accelerating. Basically what happens is, I will be well into the gradual turn when suddenly the car oversteers in the direction of the turn. it's a bit scary, almost like the car is starting to slide, but it's just a quick moment of oversteer and then it corrects itself.
I figure it's something to do with the 4 motion and although I wouldn't call it unsafe it's certainly a bit of a shock to the system.

Driving my '05 V8 around yesterday, I noticed a driveline bind like I get when making a long, accelerating left turn. Only this time, it was when I was going straight. It mostly happens when accelerating, right at a gear change. I find myself having to steer to the right to correct, then the bind, and the truck snaps to the left. I read up on the stepper motor issue on the FAQ's and it sounds like this could be a transfer case issue as well. I don't have a VAG-COM, so I can't scan for a code. I have checked all air pressures, and they're good. I have not noticed any abnormal tire wear, either.
I'm still getting a vibration/noise in the driver's foot well when feathering the throttle between 2500-3000 RPM, right at highway speeds, and it's enough to make you crazy. Dealership had the truck for over 30 days investigating this and blamed it on a bad tire. Two tires were replaced and put on the front. The noise is still there.
I'm also still getting what can best be described as a chain dragging noise coming out of the left side of the truck, apparently from the front end. I can hear it when driving with the windows down, up to about 35 mph, when wind noise masks it. The noise does not change at all with speed - it doesn't get louder, faster, or change pitch.

The headliner compass occasionally strobes and does not show the time or direction.

my 1992 BMW 3-series makes a horrible noise when I turn the wheel sharply in either direction. the noise however gets better as the car warms up, and after half an hour of driving has gone away. if I turn the engine off for an hour and start it up again, the noise is back. my sister think it's the steering column. my brother-in-law thinks it's the power steering pump, or some kind of really complicated switch to do with RPM that I don't understand.

I have a 2003 volkswagen jetta and the steering pulls in the direction of a turn while making a turn on both the right and left sides. In April of this year the rack and pinion was replaced and an alignment was done. However, the steering still pulled in the direction of a turn. In addition, the drivers side tire completely wore out within 6-8 weeks of having the steering fixed while the other tires remained intact. We were told we had a loose tie-rod on the drivers side - could this cause the quick wear on the tire and cause the pull in the steering? Also there has been a clinking (metal to metal) sound on the drivers side that occurs whenever we hit potholes or drive over uneven surfaces, could that also be the tie rod?

My 96 xj started to get this annoying squeak on the passenger side. It does it when you turn the wheel in any direction, I traced it to the wheel hub area but not sure what is causing the squeak, i just replaced the tie rod and I went and greased all the fittings on that side side but it still does it The ball joints were replaced just over a year ago.

So, I now have just under 20,000 km on my Accent, and lately there have been some noises popping up. I'm wondering if they're normal or not.
1. At low speed or completely stopped, when I turn the wheel about halfway in either direction I hear a popping noise. It sounds like it's coming from the steering column, but I'm not completely sure. I just began noticing it a couple days ago. So far it only seems to happen after the engine has warmed up; doesn't happen right after a cold start.
2. After the engine has warmed up, I also hear a knocking noise coming from underneath the car. It happens only at low speeds or when stopped. It seems to be directly related to the engine RPM.
When it idles around ~700 it will knock once. If I keep it in neutral and press the gas, it'll knock again. Let it idle, knock. Apply gas, knock. It also happens when in gear. I think it's either the fuel or exhaust system. Maybe it's the sound of the in-tank fuel pump turning on and off? It sounds the same regardless of how much fuel is in the tank.
This has been going on for a couple months now, and there don't seem to be any ill effects related to it... yet.
3. This isn't a noise, but a smell. Since it's summer here now I've been using the A/C quite often. While it's running it's ok, but when I turn it off it smells like a wet basement for a while.
I'm thinking that maybe the evaporator isn't draining properly and mold is growing in there. If I turn the blower on high right after turning off the A/C sometimes little water droplets will come out. I should also mention that it's very humid here at this time of year.

Have a wheel bearing going south can it make the car hard to turn one direction. I dont really have any humming like a wheel bearing does. But i feel a little resistance every now and then when turning the steering right. I have sprayed the steering shaft joints and i can see that they are moving free like they should. And i have a less than 2 yr old steering rack. My truck has 103k miles on the original (to my knowledge) bearings. i didn't know if sometimes a wheel bearing could cause a hard to turn in one direction feel.

I bought a 2010 lexus ls460l awd with about 80,00 miles on it and also bought a warranty for 3 year/ 36,000 miles. After having the car for a couple of days i noticed things that I didn't like as well as figured weren't normal, alot of it had to do with noises, the dealer told me they didn't cover noises, and i asked if those noises meant something was wrong then what?? It was mostly squeaks and rattles that I didn't expect to hear in a car of this caliber, going over uneven road there's a constant squeak coming from the front, if its a bump its an extremely hard thump in the rear, and the idle.....is BY FAR the loudest I've ever heard in any car that I've been in.
When I turned the wheel all the way in either direction and pressed the gas, it made a rubbing noise with a harsh vibration, brakes squeak horribly about 2 days out of the week for about an hour then it goes away. When i took it in they said everything was fine except a part on the rear struts and said they needed some special oil for the vibrating rubbing issue. Picked up the car and noticed the vibrating issue was resolved but during the drive home noticed everything else stayed the same.

I may, or may not have had to jump a curb at 40 mph to avoid rear ending another car. Truck is a 2003 F-150, single cab stx package, 4.2ltr. Long story short, no damage to my passenger side front tire or rim that I can see, but I do have a horrible grinding noise when I turn the wheel either direction. The truck still turns properly, power steering fluid is level. What should I start replacing first?! She's got about 90k miles on it, I'm sure a lot of the suspension parts are due, just need to know where to start!

I have 2010 f150 when I turn my steering wheel all the way in one direction and I press the gas from a dead stop like at a stop sign it makes sound like metal rubbing together slit vibration with shaking(like the back wheels having a hard time keeping up) from the back end. i took it to a shop they look at it. They took apart the transfer case and re-lubed what was in side told me it should go away in a couple of days. I live in winter climate when it's below freezing it works no problem without any sounds.

I have a 2002 Saturn SL with about 160k miles. She's been a great car but recently she starts to oversteer when making moderate left turns over 35 mph. It always happens when the car's weight shifts to the right side. It is predictable but it still feels unsafe to drive. Unfortunately My mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with it.

2007 F250 4WD 5.4l ... when I turn sharply in either direction I am getting a light clunk sound similar to when you are in 4WD on blacktop and try turning. The engine also seems to wanna stall when I cut the wheel too sharp.

I'm getting a readlly hard thump or slam from my transmission when accelerating. It only seems to happen when it shifts from 5 down to 4. This is usually when rounding an exit ramp, then excellerating back onto a highway. It's really bad and enough to make me nearly wet myself when it happens. It feels like the transmission is going to snap in half or something.

I've noticed that my V6 and the 2 dealer's loaners have the same subtle hesitation in 3rd and 4th when acceleration. Casual, everyday accelerating. Less noticeable if you hit it hard.

I test drove an 08 VR6 Touareg 2 this evening. Felt quite nice though I even with the upgraded V6, I found myself stomping on the gas on the freeway to overtake compared to my 05 V8.
Anyway, what I wanted to post about was a vibration type noise occuring just around 2500rpm in 2nd and 3rd (and possibly others) when accelerating. At first, I thought it might be something in the muffler, but I wound down the windows and it didn't seem to be coming from the outside.
Note that the sound was not any kind of throaty roar - it sounded like something was loose/vibrating. Hopefully this is limited to the particular example that I drove?

I have noticed a high-pitched whine coming from the front end at high speeds. Above 90-95 mph any use of the accelerator results in a high-pitched noise, unrelated to RPMs. Past 120 it starts sounding pretty bad/loud. My guess is that the fuel pump is sucking so much gas that it is having issues, or the throttle control is just unhappy in that range.

I recall some folks (with certain VIN#s) getting a TSP for correcting the lag when accelerating from a dead stop. I asked my dealer about it during routine service several months ago, but no fix at that time.

For the past few weeks, my Treg has been misfiring while accelerating from a cold start. It only does it when the engine is first started and only the first time you accelerate. Also blows blue smoke out the tailpipes while this is happening. Car is at the dealership right now with a tech and Service Manager scratching their heads. I already did a search for my problem, nothing matched it.

My 2006 (with conti contacts, still in good shape) seems to behave differently from my 2004 (pirelli scorpions).
When accelerating and turning together (doesn't need to be a sharp turn, can be gradual), occasionally I feel my back seem to "slide" a bit. It's a strange sensation and I can't seem to really place it. It doesn't feel like I'm fishtailing, more like the outer rear wheel in the turn is accelerating a little too fast and pushing my rear end a bit too far too fast.
It only happens for a second and then everything is normal again. I haven't had any troubles with my 2006 beyond this (besides the DVD nav issue). But it does give me a bit of concern, as if the AWD system is a little "off".

Are the mounts on the engine not tight enough? It feels rather strange. My dad's Ford Explorer doesn't do that. I feel like I'm driving a car with a manual transmission that needs to have dogbone bushings and mounts upgraded. How do I bring this to dealership's attention without appear like a complete loony? They like to give the "Could not duplicate" response when there is an obvious symptom.
