Touareg :: Way To Take Fuse Cover Off?
Dec 22, 2003
Taking fuse cover off. I tried per the manual but I did not want to apply too much pressure via the screwdriver.
How much pressure do you need to apply; the cover was getting a good bend in it an wasn't moving?
Is there a trick to this (besides taking to the dealer)?

Was riding along a couple of days ago and felt something odd under my left foot. When I stopped I reached down and discovered it was the dash fuse cover panel. I went to snap it back into place and no snap; it wouldn't pop back into place or stay put at all. Just keeps falling out. It was sufficiently annoying that I ordered a replacement, but that one's not staying in place either. The only other thing I can think of is that the surrounding lower dash cover may be warped, but nothing looks crooked or out of place.

I've a 1994 Ranger XLT 4.0L with a missing fuse panel cover. I'm trying to get the horn to work and we've traced the problem to a missing fuse. Unfortunately, there are 3 empty fuse slots and no info on their rating or use. Where I can get the proper info. Truck was a salvage, no ops manuals, and sloppy work putting it together.

Exactly how do you remove the cover (facia) below the front of the front seat so the battery can be removed. To my knowledge no one has spelled this out on this board.

Just installed my Touareg Dash Cover and it was easy, but I need to hit the thing 4 or 5 times before it opens, is the way it is for everyone? I do have the new screws (small)!

Looking for the Part No. for the exterior plastic cover at the bottom of the front windshield. Mine is cracked on the front passenger side. Not sure what it's called but only a portion is exposed...the rest is hidden below the hood and it's attached via clips and (4) screws.

During one of the cold days this winter, the tips on my retractable cover cracked and chipped off. It no longer catches on the side panels. The local dealers haven't determined if this can be replaced under warranty yet.
Since the tips are not a replaceable part, how to modify/improve the tips so they will hold the cover in place, and not break in cold weather. I was thinking about cutting the tips completely off and inserting a rod that would run full width.

I have a 2005 T-reg V8 and it has been running great. (This is my second treg had a 04 that VW baught back from me.) On Saturday I went in for my 5K service and was called to the service bay to be shown a bottom cover that was filled with oil.
The crank seal was to be sent to the dealership, however, the tool to repair it will not be here for a week. VW said my car did not loose too much oil, so there should not be any serious damage.

I noticed the second night driving our new Touareg that the compass light flickered from dim to bright and back. A few minutes after the display went completely off. Haven't noticed it since but I have seen a few posts that suggest they turn off after 30 sec. and can be adjusted with VagCom. I called VWoA and they had no info on it yet. The other issue was the engine cover that was on the demo Touareg with identical options other than the color, is not on our new vehicle. Our vehicle we bought was delivered the night of our demo ride, so it is a late build...small center rear head rest...etc. When I questioned the dealer they said the engine cover was discontinued recently and is not installed anymore. I wish it was there, looks clean. Other than that my second vehicle is an '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I love to drive the VW over the Jeep. They did an excellent job on it.

While doing some rewiring of my xm satellite radio in my car. I seem to have broken something electrical (besides the wood trim!) For some reason now the xms cig plug wont work. Though the other one next to it does. I've already swapped out the cig plug with another to see if it was just the plug and that didn't work. The two outlets aren't on separate fuses are they?

I don't use my horn unless absolutely necessary. Well, today it was. Guess what? The Sounds of Silence. No horn, no how.
Turned out, the No. 16 fuse was, in fact, blown. What caused that, I don't have a clue. Replaced it and it is working again. Hopefully, not a harbinger of electrical gremlins to come.

Was having problems with trailer wiring blowing a fuse so I pulled a fuse, the wrong fuse, out while it was running and the whole rig died. Key was locked in the ignition. Window down, ect.. The dash lights and radio works that's about all. vagcom will not hookup because I can't turn the ignition on. The alarm goes off if I open any door......

My left side blinkers keeps Blowing the fuse, I replaced ir 3 times already. First I thought it was the light bulb but my whole left side (driver side) blinkers were out except the one on the side mirror. Is there a relay for the blinkers somewhere that might be bad or something else?

I was having intermittent fuel pressure problems. I replaced fuel pump and relay and was still having the problem. A figured out that wiggling the 20 amp fuse would cause the intermittent. Looking at the connections for the fuse, I can see one side was damaged. I figured I could pull the connector out from the back and fix the connector, but when I took the back off (see picture) I have a purple wire (labeled 1) going to one side of the fuse and a multi-connector (labeled 2) from one wire going to the other side. My luck, it's the multi-connector side that is damaged.
It Looks like the multi-connector goes to the Black and yellow wire. Instead of replacing the box, I figured I could just create an inline fuse for the fuel pump with the purple wire and splice it into the Black/yellow wire.
I can't see any problem with this, just looking for a second opinion. And I'm not sure how it would effect the relay. I can't find a fuse panel wiring diagram anywhere.

I finally picked up a cell phone cup holder so I could dock the Android and tether the millions of cables (two) for power and audio when I ran into a roadblock. The holder has an expanding base so it can fit into any size cup holder. Perfect! Except that if I try to use it in the "top" cup holder that has the closing lid, it never quite expands to fit because the lid offsets the interior dimensions. The holder fits fine in the lower cup holder, but because of it's size and angle for the phone, it presses it too close to the armrest so it's essentially a no-go.
How to safely and easily remove the lid cover for the top cup holder?

I noticed my '08 TSI wagon has been marking it's territory, couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from so I ran it into the dealer. Turns out the oil is leaking from the cam cover assembly & they said it's a seven hour job to fix it. And while they have it torn apart, anything else I should replace?

I'm trying to change out the passenger low beam and I can't see to get the dust cover off. Is there a trick to this? I'm turning on it counterclockwise as hard as I can and it won't budge. The high beam one comes off easily.

I had it checked out at the dealer and they called it a "weep" so they went on to tell me that VW probably wont approve warranty work for it. I pushed for them to take pictures and send it in anyway.
Now assuming they won't do it, I have been looking for a DIY or a technical order on the job but I can't find anything.
