I'm trying to bring fresh air at ambient temperature into the cab, but even on Econ and Lo, incoming air is a good 20 degrees F warmer than outside, even after 20 minutes or so giving the system time to cool off. The dealer says this is normal. Is there no way to get cool outside air in through the ventilation system without turning on the compressor?
View 15 RepliesThe A/C is not working in my 2002 S-10. Currently the compressor runs, but the air is not getting cool. I tried adding freon, but it has not worked. The low side pressure is about 50 psi, and would drop a few pounds when the compressor is started, but it drops no further. I have not noticed the compressor cycling while it is on. The can of refrigerant is not empty, but the system does not seem to be taking any more from that can.
Do I just need to add some more coolant from a fresh can, or is something else at work here. Also, probably unrelated, when down shifting it is fairly common for the air to switch from blowing up front to blowing on the defrost.
I have a 1999 F250SD with V10 and the compressor recycles about every 4 to 5 seconds and doesn't cool very much. I checked the 134a level and according to my gauge it has sufficient level. What could be my problem.
View 4 RepliesIn my 08 Expedition I notice the a/c compressor cycles on for 18-25 sec. then off for about the same. This is with an ambient temp of about 75f. A/C seems to be blowing cool air-never was really cold since new. The idle drops/surges a bit when the a/c kicks on also-which is what grabbed my attention. Is this a normal or is it short cycling?
View 1 RepliesLooking to get the A/C working on my '78 F150 with integral (factory) A/C system. It is complete, but it seems to be blowing warm air as opposed to cold.
When I turn on the A/C, the compressor engages and the blower switches to the dashboard vents. I waited for a minute or two, but no cool air.
The sight glass has a silver line running through it. I assumed this was full? It would be black if it was low/empty.
When ever the car stops at a traffic light or stop sign, the air compressor cycles rapidly and the cool air turns warm. I was told the cooling fan was not coming on, but the other day the fan was cycling and the cool air stayed cool. My question is what controls the cooling fan operation? It seems the high pressure switch is working correctly and the fan motor is working. As long as I'm driving the air is cool.
View 2 RepliesI have a 97 expedition that i am having trouble with. It has front and back airconditioner. The compressor is short cycling real fast. Warm air in the front and cool air in the back. I put a can of freon in but still not cooling. The gauges are between 30 psi and 50 on the low side. The high side is between 100 and 150 psi. The ambient temp was 80 degrees.....
View 1 RepliesI've got the single zone a/c system -- On a hot day (here in VA a hot day is greater than 90 with high humitity), after the T has sat in the sun all day, it takes 10 or so minutes for the cabin to reach a comfortable temp, 69-70. By the way, I have the midnight blue with tan interior -- This could be a factor, you know, the dark car holds more heat scenerio.
I took it in last summer to ensure that the system was charged and operating at a normal level and I was told it was. A recent passenger questioned me as to why it took so long to cool off (and of course she mentioned that her 4runner cooled off way faster), I had no answer besides telling them to just be cool and the T will eventually will too.
I should have set a poll up, oh well, general comments are just as good. Side note -- Posting pictures, you do this through iServer? Or is the Insert Image icon just broken today?
I have only 3 days with my new Treg and I cannot make the A/C to stop blowing cool air off the upper vent into the windshield. So the cold air makes condensate water on the outside and I have to use the wipers to wipre it out, appearing again in few seconds. The A/C settings are either AUTO at 70F or manual and making sure the air is directed to the front.
View 18 RepliesMy car has been having a cool start acceleration problem in the past couple weeks.
After I start the engine, switch to D ("Drive"), and step on the gas paddle half way, the car will go forward for about 1 feet. Then it will choke for couple seconds. If I release the gas paddle and then step on it again, it will do the same thing.
However, if I just slightly step on it and let it slowly accelerate, it will be fine. Also, it only happens on a cold start.

View 2 RepliesThe dealer diagnosed my a/c as needing a new compressor and clutch. I had an a/c specialty shop install a remanufactured compressor and clutch. however, they could not get the compressor to kick on. I checked all fuses (all are good).
I checked the compressor continuity (good, 0 ohms). I checked the plug where the compressor clutch plugs in (it reads 12 volts). the funny thing is, it reads 12 volts anytime the engine is running (even if the climatroinc is turned off). I am definitely not an a/c expert and really don't know how this stuff works.
I have a 2009 VW Tiguan SE with about 85K on it. Yesterday driving to work the alternator/ac belt broke, after replacing the belt the AC compressor will not turn on. The AC was running fine up until the belt broke, so far I have checked all the fuses and the codes, no bad fuses and no codes. I read in the manual about a compressor shaft overload protection but it doesn't go into detail what this is or how to reset it. I could imagine that since the belt broke while the AC was on the system could think there is an issue with the compressor and shut it off but I can't figure out what to check or how to reset it. The AC system was checked a few months ago and has been producing cold air so I don't think there is a coolant level issue.

View 14 Replies98 e150 - 4.6l, 185k, My air started blowing warm the other day. It worked perfectly fine. I checked the compressor to see if it was turning. Nope! I am wondering if it could be the clutch?
I replaced the alternator and changed the serpentine belt a couple of months ago and noticed a very slight whining sound sometime after I did this. I thought something might be going and just ignored it and said to myself, that's all the new tread in the new belt whining a little. Could be! not sure.
Anyway, where could I possibly start an easy procedure to see why the failure in the compressor not turning? Compressor is a lot harder to get at than an alternator!
I only use AC in the summer around here, not year 'round. When I turn it on, I notice that the engine revs higher when turning the compressor, which cycles on and off. It's only a few hundred RPM, but it's quite noticeable and will make the truck surge forward when sitting at a traffic light. The dealer says this is how the AC works on a GX, so I've gotten used to it.
View 12 RepliesHave and intermittent condition with my 1996 F-150 4.9. AC runs and then cuts out (compressor not turning). I lose 12v to both side of high side switch. I tried to troubleshoot using a schematic in Haynes Foprd Pickups and Bronco for 92 and later F-Series/Bronco, but the color code for the wiring doesn't match up.
On my truck, there is 2 wires from the low side pressure switch which mates to a socket with only 1 wire. I have 12 volts at switch terminal on dash control, and it seems that I have an broken wire behind the dash, as I can get it to operate again when I move the harness around. Where can I get a schematic of this part of the circuit?
My ESP light has been turning off and on by itself the last few weeks. It doesn't happen too frequently but it's bothering me... Sometimes the light is on when I turn on the car and sometimes it turn on when I'm driving normally. The light is not flashing and when I stop the car and kill the engine and then re-start the car, the light turns off! What could be the problem? The car drives just fine, I just want to fix whatever it's wrong before I get stranded and the car is a 03' Jetta 1.8T.

View 3 RepliesPossible to turn on and off the passenger side airbag? In order to have a child's car seat in the front I need to be able to turn off the airbag. I need to turn it back on when an adult is sitting there. It is a Touareg 3,2 V6 Tiptronic.
