Touareg :: V8 - Slight Vibration While Stationary?
Jul 27, 2004
I thought it was just my imagination but I have since noticed a slight vibration in the car while I am stopped at a stoplights. This problem is intermittent, and not caused by sitting on a bridge or other roadway that can move. I can sit at a stoplight and turn off the Climate Control, it still vibrates. The RPMs are constant, nothing seems to be wrong other than the vibrations. The radio will be off (I turn off the techno). It looks like Jurassic Park when there is a water bottle in my cupholder. The vibration is steady in both intensity and frequency, and will not go away on its own once I notice it while stopped. The problem is pretty intermittent and I have been unable to reproduce it for a service tech.
V8 w/ 8k miles.

I put on Cayenne 19" wheels with the high performance tires during my 5K checkup. After 4k more miles I noticed a slight vibration above 60mph, which normally indicates an alignment problem. As I never hit a large pothole or curb, I took it to my VW dealer, (VW of Springfield, VA). They managed to get VW to pay for the alignment, as my it was off when checked. Nice!!! My VIN # was 13,9xx.

I have a 05 Touareg V6. When coming to a stop (when speed reaches 5 mph or less) there is a slight vibration felt in the steering wheel. What causes this? What can I do to correct this? (I had new rotors and brakes put on about 2K miles ago.

I am experiencing a slight rumble-strip-like vibration/noise when veering to the right. There is no noticeable vibration when driving straight or to the right - sounds like it's coming from the front. I thought it was my tires but had them rotated with same symptoms/ I first noticed this shortly after I had them rotated in July. So it's probably front suspension.

First the details on the car : 2006 Passat 2.0T with 61k miles with current up to date maintenance
Everything is factory stock on the vehicle except for the wheels. I have aftermarket 18x8 Moda wheels with Falken ZX19 tires.
I have been having issues with the vehicle vibrating slightly at 50-60 mph, but between 60-70+ mph it gets worse. However when I throttle off the vibration stops at 70 but when I accelerate it starts to shake again . I've had a new set of tire put on, rebalanced the wheels five times, alignment done three times, and have confirmed with three different shops the the tires and wheels are not out of shape.

I noticed sometimes my RPM seems to move a little bit, maybe by 100 at the most. I also feel a slight vibration when it happens. Is this ok/normal?
2004 BMW 330ci, 233k KM. No maintenance records apart from what I have done to it yet which is fuel pump relay, fuel pump, crankshaft sensor.

I recently was driving down my road in an ice storm from work and slid sideways into what I think was a depressed storm drain. (Lots of snow as well so unable to tell what exactly what it was) I hit the right front tire/rim into it. It was the loudest thud, one where you would think the tire came off. Nothing apparent visually, but on the highway it did create a slight vibration so i had both front tires re-balanced. Again, still a vibration about 35mph and up. Rebalanced again and still the same exact vibration.
It's not like hand numbing on the steering wheel but annoying and when you know you car in and out you know what vibrations are supposed to be there and which ones aren't. The tire place said the rim was not bent. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I was thinking of switching that right front tire to the back to maybe see if that worked with the vibe. Next step would be an alignment but the tire place insisted that wasn't the problem since I had one in November when the snows went on.

I have had a minor vibration above 50 or so mph(by speedometer). Installed a new driveshaft and corrected the pinion angle to near perfect. I have OEM 4.30 gears and 33.4" tall tires. I had to retune motor/PCM and one of the options while installing the new tune was tire revs per mile.
I input 620 and pressed on. Now my slight vibration is gone. Even at a corrected 70 mph it's smooth. I'm a little baffled, as I do not understand how a tire diameter correction in the PCM could affect the drivetrain?

I have a 2008 focus and at about 15000 miles started having a slight vibration at idle. Its idling at about 700rpm is that normal? It more annoying than anything. Took it to Ford and they just say its normal. What the problem could be? Should I replace the plugs?

Experienced slight vibration at idle with the ac on ranging from 780-825rpm n causes shaking. Don't remember it ever doing it before. Also once I off the ac it goes away. Also the car started dropping rpm a little when slowing down.

I just purchase a new 2012 Lexus LS460 L AWD. Between 35 to 40 MPH I feel a slight vibration in the front end of the car. Once I get above 40 MPH the vibration or wobble goes away. Could it be a tire out of balance? Car was bought new, and currently has 1200 miles on the clock.

On my way home from work today, I noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel and could even feel it in the shifter when stopped in drive at a light or stop sign. the car was fully warmed up and this was still happening. I don't really recall this before, but noticed it tonight as my hand felt it.
side note - I did do some spirited driving with a friend on Thursday, (two days ago) but drove the car yesterday and didn't notice the issue. I was thinking maybe I damaged something, but then again I would have felt it yesterday. so I sure hope not. Again its not a very harsh constant vibration but very slight but enough to get my attention. when I switch the car to neutral it stops and back to drive it starts again.

In the last week i have noticed a slight vibration and click in the 6mt on my 2010.
It happens when i have the car in gear, and was accelerating but then lifted off the gas without taking the car out of gear. what happens is about a half a second after lifting, the gear shift gets a little shake for a tenth of a second, which comes right with a faint click (like a solenoid clicking) which is from right about mid right thigh in the middle console. it also is louder and more vibration in the lower gears, almost unnoticeable in 6th
I never noticed this before, its rather annoying in traffic. Thinking I want to take the car in to see if something needs work.

Driving home from work today I hit the largest pothole in my life (seriously). I had a slight vibration between 40-50mph after the impact. Got home took the wheel off and it bent it partially and bubbled the sidewall of the tire. No worries I have the VW wheel/tire protection and can get it repaired and get a new tire. What really concerns me is the right side axle. It clearly hit the frame of the car and is indented slightly. As I turn the axle by hand I can tell it's slightly off on one side. My question is do I need a new axle? Or do you think the indent is throwing me off when I spin it making it look unbalanced?

I have a slight vibration coming at speeds of 80kph and up that is driving me crazy. The steering wheel doesn"t shake so I am leaning more towards a rear of car issue. The center driveshaft and transmission were replaced and new tires{Conti Extreme Contact DW} Wheels are not bent. The car has 130,000 km"s. The vibe happens mostly when accelerating up freeway ramps. Once the car settles at highway speeds{100_120kph} it tends to reduce to a constant faint shake that you feel in the seats. Rear wheel bearings? CV joints? I am the only one who feels the shaking because I know how smooth a ride it used to be.

Ok. I can't figure this out, and 2 mechanics I took it to haven't figured it out yet. When I am at highway speeds, 6-70 mph, and I gently let off the gas, I can feel a slight vibration in the floor. You can also hear it if you listen. It stops when I completely let off the gas though, unless I'm going downhill, then it hums a few seconds longer before going away. I've had an alignment done, brand new pitman arm, idler arm, steering damper, and tune up. Also repacked the bearings in the right front wheel.
The mechanics do not see anything else that looks worn. They said the u-joints look ok. I don't get any clunking or banging anywhere. What else should I have them look at? Would that only cause the hum/vibration at highway speed? I was going to have the tires rotated and rebalanced to see if that fixes it.
I'm planning a 800 mile round trip camping trip in a week and would like to get this fixed before then. '95 4Runner 4x4 ....

So having done a single track day, I feel like my rotors must have warped, as there is now a slight vibration when applying the brakes. This is very surprising as I don't do anything out of the ordinary, and tried to use brakes intelligently, including a proper cool down lap and so on. Is this normal? What are my options for making life better? Is there some set of rotors I should get that wouldn't be prone to warping like this? Is it a question of pads?

2002 Dodge Diesel PU ... At about 125000 miles a slight vibration appeared and has progressively gotten worse. Now at 177000 it comes on at 60 mph and is pretty bad. I've replaced tires, shocks, hub bearings, u-joints and locator bars, all to no avail. The tires show no unusual wear and the drive shaft(s) u-joints appear good. I'm not the only one with this problem but Dodge denies any knowledge of it's occurrence.

I haven't really gotten under it to check this out, but my truck (see signature) has a slight vibration on take off. It only does it when the wheels are turned to the right or left. They don't have to be turned very far either. It doesn't do it on straight line take offs, or on a take off from a rolling stop. ONLY when pulling off from a dead stop and the front wheels are turned any degree to the right or left. I'm running mostly bald all terrain tires, the wheels are not bent. My current wheels are new to the truck, and the problem was there with the previous rim/tire combination. The rear end doesn't seem to have any slack in it. The transmission shifts like a top. There are no other clanks or vibrations anywhere in the drivetrain and it drives good.
