Lately I get a sound when I hit 45MPH or higher and it sounds like an old washing machine, it stops while presing the brakes or lowering the speed back to aprox. 45MPH.

When I back up the T-egg and at the same time I press the brake to control the speed. I hear a strange sound coming from the rear brake. Something like I hit something. How often? I would say, always. I went to the dealer 2 months ago and could not duplicate at that time.

i drove my wifes 04 with 87k miles. driving at 40+ mph, there appears to be a rubbing noise coming from the front passenger side, i lightly applied the brakes and the noise was still there but slowing down to under 40 it was gone?

I have this strange noise coming from the engine compartment on the passenger side of my vehicle. Here are the characteristics of the sound:
1) Sounds a bit like a skipping tranny. Fast paced creaking type sound.
2) Only happens when coasting and the car is up to temperature. Meaning when I'm accelerating or braking the sound is not present.
BTW, the vehicle has 28k-29k miles and is 18 months old.

So here I am at just under 500 miles on the odometer, and I'm beginning to notice a strange rattle sound when driving. This rattle occurs either after I let off the throttle in any gear, or when the RPMs are dropping from 2500 - 1000. It happens only for a short moment and it almost sounds like something tapping a few times somewhere on the axle or drivetrain. I first actually noticed it when my music was turned up because I could feel the vibration in the steering wheel. Anyways, I have a call out to the service department to have it looked at ASAP.

I have a very strange sound coming from the back of the car. It sounds exactly like you have a 6 pack of mineral water in plastic bottles wrapped in foil in the trunk. It makes this sound when I go over some small bumps and not paved roads. However on bigger bumps it is completely quiet.
My problem is that I do not know where the sound is coming from. I would really like to get rid of the sound myself.
Golf IV R32 :: Strange Sound Coming After 40 Mph And When Throttle Is On Idle
Today I should make trade for MKIV R32 and I only thing I'm bit worried is this one sound. It appears when speed is over 40 mph/60 kmh. And especially then when I set my gas pedal loose / idle. The sound seems to be coming from back and it reminds the sound when you leave your window just little open and wind blows in making very similar sound. It is high frequency sound and not loud but still can clearly be heard. Almost like whistling type of sound. Then when speed decreases below 40 mph the sound disappears.
The car has milltek resonated exhaust.
Only thing I could think of is that if there could be some hole in exhaust pipe or in window caulk/seal..

My new to me Golf makes a strange "whistle" sound around 2000+ RPM. In any gear only when accelerating. My car does not have a turbo so its not that, the sound is coming from the motor it self. Very strange.
I dont think it comes from the tranny or clutch.
Car has 95K miles on it, t-belt and water pump done at 68k (but in 2008!, inspected it and the belt looks fine, no cracks or fraying or anything) This whistle sound is so strange. My wife says it sound like a whistle then it changes to a slight vibration sound.

got in the car this morning, it revved a little high and now sounds like an air pump is constantly going. You don't hear it as much when you drive but when stopped and especially when you open the hood, its like a compressor is going. It seems to be coming from the back end of the air intake tubing...on the passenger side, not near the intake itself.

What may cause a strange whirring sound when my R32 is on. I can be in park, sitting still..whatever...It sounds like it's coming from somewhere around the rear tires.
Whirring...humming... Honestly to me it sounds similar to an electric motor trying to do it's job but something is keeping it from doing so. Would be the best way to describe it. I just got the car a few weeks ago and the sound started last week.

I was wondering from the community if they ever hear a "motor" sound or like a "leveling" sound coming from the steering/instrument cluster area after you press the keyless start button (not starting the car). To me I was thinking it's like the car is maybe moving the steering column kinda like how luxury cars move the steering away to allow people to get in and out. But I don't believe the steering wheel is powered since I adjust it using the levers. Just wondering what this sound is for, worried something isn't right with that.

I've got a strange sound coming from the front axle. I want to rule out/in that it may be my auto lock hubs. Can I slide the hubs out and drive around? I dont see any problem I won't be offroad, just some miles to test it.
