View 2 RepliesI've always had a small creaking or groan when i turn the wheel after I lowered my GLI a year ago, but i feel like it's getting louder...
What could be causing it? cause im doing my year end "maintenance" (if its worn/almost broke, perfect excuse to buy upgrades) ...
My control arms are brand new with r32 bushings as are my 034strut mounts/bearings. I checked my steering fluid level and its good.
Pic for reference of current height, might raise it .5 or so, my new job has quite the driveway entrance.
I'm looking at an R32 with 58k miles. When I turn the wheel side to side when the car is stopped, I hear a creak from the suspension. What is making the noise and how expensive is it to fix?
View 3 RepliesRecently on my gen 6 with about 68k miles I have noticed a very pronounce noise when turning the steering wheel whether the car is stationary or in motion. It makes a loud creaking/popping noise and it cant be heard from outside the car. The noise happens no matter which way I turn the steering wheel. I know Toyota has had problems with their intermediate steering shafts.
View 5 RepliesI found the link below in the archived threads [URL] ... It references several people experiencing a groaning problem when turning the steering wheel at low speed. I've just started experiencing the same problem and would like to see how to resolve the issue.
View 2 RepliesMy 04 V8 didn't come with the manual when I bought it. I found a document online showing that the 2004 only needed service/oil change every 10K but I wanted to double check that as it seemed a lot of miles to be between services, and I'm at 14,990 miles right now so if I need a 15K service I need to get it scheduled.
Also, how do I turn on the heated steering wheel thing? Just for the "cool" factor I want to test it out but I can't find the control anywhere for it. I'm assuming my car has it since it has the pass through ski bag.
Got in my Treg turned key an nothing happened. Thought that somehow battery was dead. Hooked up jumpers to treg and touched both ends on the other side and had mean sparks!! Checked lights and lights are bright. Checked alarm and alarm is loud. Turn key and none of the gauges register. Starter does not turn over. Can't get car out of gear. Wheel is locked. Can get key out. Thought it was key fob and used spare. Same result. Bottom line, plenty of juice in battery, but starter will not turn over, won't come out of gear, and steering wheel is locked.
View 10 RepliesWhen I turn my AC to max. power (fan) the steering wheel and the entire dash board starts shaking and vibrating. Also one can hear a "deep" humming noise which seems to be coming form the fan/fans belt etc.
View 9 RepliesLat week I dropped my '04 V6 Touareg off at my dealer for some minor warranty work. On the way to the dealer, I noticed a weird noise and vibration whenever I turned the steering wheel. I mentioned this to the dealer when I dropped the car off. They called me later saying that there was a leak in the steering rack and the whole thing needed to be replaced. The car wasn't safe to drive, so they would provide a rental.
Today, I get a call saying that the steering rack finally came in, but that upon installing it they noticed that something connectet to the steering or front suspension (I can't remember what it was, tie rod perhaps?) was bent, probably from hitting a pot hole, and that therefore the replacement would not be covered by warranty. Needless to say, this will not be cheap.
I do not take my Touareg off road, and I don't remember hitting any pot hole so hard that it could have bent something. My questions are:
- Is this a known or common problem/issue with Touaregs?
- Could hitting a pot hole or something a long time ago cause a leak many months later?
I have a problem with my VW Touareg 05 plate. When I turn the steering wheel full lock left or right in tight places the car shudders. It doesn't do it all the time but does appear to be getting worse as time goes on. I have been told that it may well be the Stepper motor.
View 9 RepliesSo for about two years now I have had this creaking, squeaking noise coming from the left side of the truck. It only happens when turning left(such as 90° turns). It doesn't happen over bumps or while turning right. if you turn slowly the sound is minimal or not there. When it rains and there is water on the road the noise usually stops all together. The noise is not constant. Almost sounds like a shopping cart with bad wheel.
We replaced all the ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, sway bar links, tires, sway bar bushings, and brakes(not all because of the sound, just taking care of maintenance along the way). My mechanic did my alignment about two months ago and could not pin the noise down and didn't see anything binding. Suggested to change out the sway bar links, but that didn't stop it.
Here's my issue: as it gets colder out, I ride with the windows up, so all the little squeaks and creaks get that much more noticeable.
Ones in particular that drive me nuts are the squeaks that originate from the rear deck area (almost as if they are coming from the rear upper shock mounts between the C-pillars - I think this is a Jetta-only issue). I had a c-pillar bar in the past and it seemed... but the bar is a tad unsightly, and it rendered my rear seat belts useless.
Need finding and eliminating these noises in the back? I'd rather not run one of those bars again if at all possible.
It happens most often when the going over bumps and uneven roads, I tend not to hear when going over potholes (probably because the sound of the crash over potholes tend to overpower the squeaks.) It sounds like it's coming from the rear right-side.
So, it must be the suspension then, right? You would think so, except:
It sounds like it's coming from inside the car rather than outside. Since I have the windows all rolled up, the squeaks would have to be pretty loud for me to hear it, if it's coming from outside.
Did the bounce test, pushed it with most of my weight to hear if it makes any sound. It doesn't.
Car: 2007 Corolla.
I have a 2005 with just a touch over 95K on it. I know I'm due (and maybe a little overdue!) for plenty of scheduled maintenance prescribed in the "Passport" between 90K and 100K but I've been pretty laissez-faire about doing much other than changing the oil every 3K and telling my mechanic to "just make sure everything looks alright" since I picked up the vehicle at 70K miles. I know - there should be some audible sighs from more responsible owners, a finger-wag or two, maybe even a reply chastising me for being so frugal about the maintenance. Probably pretty well-deserved. The original owner was nothing short of OCD with the maintenance so I consider myself pretty lucky. In my defense, however, I'll tell you: there's never been a thing wrong with the car in over 20K miles. Not a peep, squeak, growl, groan, whatever. Other than getting fairly inefficient mileage (~42 city/~48 highway - I live in a very hilly place and the hills always seem to be going "up" rather than "down" for some reason...)
View 1 RepliesI recently (1.5 months ago) had my clutch replaced because my clutch pivot ball was making noise and with 70000 miles on the clutch, the mechanic suggested replacing the entire thing. The clutch works beautifully, except that just recently my clutch pedal has started to make a squeak/ creak noise. It's not very loud, although it seems louder when it's particularly hot and muggy. It sounds like it is coming from the pedal and it makes the noise regardless of whether the car is on or off. What might be causing this?
View 3 RepliesI have recently bought a B5.5 2003 Passat 1.9TDI SE. It is a really nice car but recently it has developed a fault. When I turn the steering wheel it squeaks. It sounds like the steering wheel is rubbing against something. What could be causing this ? Does it need some lubricant applying ?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 LX with 25k miles.. within the past 1,500 miles or so, I notice there is a squeaking/creaking/rubbing sound coming from the steering wheel column when I turn (and cut, specifically) the wheel at stopped and low speeds (such as pulling out of the driveway or maneuvering into a parking spot). At faster speeds this doesn't happen.
I intend on bringing this to the dealer. What should I expect, and should I bring this in ASAP?
My sister has a Camry that has a squeak in the steering wheel occasionally when you turn the wheel. She lives in another state, and so I'm only going by her description, but I'll be visiting soon.
She describes it as an intermittent squeak/groan when the wheel is turned. I think it may be plastic on plastic, but it is definitely coming from the area around the column (up by the combo switch and ignition switch area), not down by your feet, she says.
I'm not sure of the year, but it is in the 2001-2003 range, I believe. I think this is just an annoyance thing, not a mechanical problem.
This is a known issue with Lexus. Bring your Lovely RX to the dealer so they can replace the Steering wheel column, so it will stop the "Squeak" noise.
View 2 Replies2002 Solara, 69K miles, occasional squeak from steering wheel when turning, sounds as if it is coming from where the wheel connects/rotates at the column - sounds like a weak rubber horn (like clowns use) or a rubbery, balloons-rubbing-together sort of sound. Not loud - only noticed when I was w/out the radio on (had an exhaust repair last week and was enjoying the quiet). It's not an external steering pump whine - it really seems as if it is coming right the steering column. Short of leaving cheese to there to coax out a mouse . . .
View 6 RepliesI had the clock spring recall done last week and now when I turn my wheel almost to full lock for a tight turn, it has a little "chirp" when going past a certain point. I'll definitely bring it back to them to correct it, but I'm guessing no quick fix but I can easily remove my airbag and check from there.
