My wife called today. After she shut off the car today (13F and 2" snow today), she "says" the car stayed on for 10-15 seconds before it went quiet. I'm assuming it was fan noise, since I don't see how the car can stay running if the key was removed. She didn't have the REST button set. What is "staying on". Haven't heard this before today.
View 3 RepliesLast night we went to look at some Christmas lights in a drive through park. There was a sign in the beginning of the park that said "Headlights off please." This seems to be impossible on the Touareg. I turned the headlight switch to off but the daytime running lights stayed on. After calling my salesman at VW, he asked many service techs how to do this and they have never been approached with such a question. They were stumped. The salesman told me that I can shut the daytime running lights off by depressing the emergency brake but that doesn't even work. The lights still remain on. Is there a way to shut the headlights off?
View 24 RepliesI started hearing loud fan like noise today. It stayed on for a bit after the car was turned off. I usually wouldn't mind lil bit of fan noise.. but this was horrific loud.. I'm guessing I just need to replace the fan.
View 11 RepliesRandomly, on my way home from work yesterday, the ECS light turned on, and stayed on for about 10 miles.
I got home, turned the car on and off, even drove around for 10 more minutes, and the light never turned back on.
Now this morning, on my way to work, the light popped back on and stayed on.
I have a 2011 Santa Fe, 4 cylinder.
Today, for the first time the back up lights stayed on when the car was turned off. What causes this? The lights went off when the car was restarted.
View 1 RepliesMy .:R will not start/ stay running. I just put my turbo back on. It ran great when I pulled the turbo off to get it rebuilt. When I first started the .:R, it fired right up and ran okay. About a minute later it shut off like I turned off the key. I went to restart and all I got was cracking but no start. I checked everything over and tried again. It started but shut off about 30 seconds later. After that I couldn't get it to start just cracking. I gave up for a few hour to gather my thoughts. I went back and no start again.
So I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and tried again. It started but shut right off after a minute and wouldn't restart. So I disconnected the battery and tried again. It started again, so I revved the motor to about 3500 rpm and let it sit there and about a minute it shut off like I turned off the key. NOTE: All the dash light stayed on like the key is on but the engine acts like the key was turned off. The ECS light stays on the when the engine is running or not.
So naturally I thought a nail had punctured a tire leading to a slow leak. When I got home I found no nail and the tire pressure on all four tires even but down to about 36psi.
I refilled to my normal of 40/38 and reset the TPMS with the button below the steering wheel. The light stayed on for a minute or two of driving then turned off and stayed off for my commute to work.
What I think probably happened is that I reduced from 42/40 to 40/38 recently without a TPMS reset. Then this morning the temperature outside was 55F and about 65F in my garage. When I left the garage at 5:20AM the TPMS light was off. I drive about 2 mile to the gym each morning and park my C for about an hour. This morning, when I got back in the car the tires had cooled to 55F and I guess that was enough to reduce the pressure far enough to trip my warning light.
Last night I drove to pick up my wife from work, well I got to the place and put the Touareg in park and shutdown the engine. The light switch was in Auto as it was getting dark and the lights had come on while I was enroute.
When I shut down the engine the interior lights stayed on, as well as the taillights I noticed. I sat in the car waiting for 10-15 minutes listening to the radio with the interior lights on. Was I draining my battery? Should I not do this in the future by switching the light switch to off from auto?
Having dash lights stay on with the car outline and other lamps even after turning the car off and locking the car?
View 2 RepliesThere is a fan noise every 30 seconds in the engine compartment behind the passengers headlight area. Is there a fan motor there? Could it be disconnected without hurting anything? I can't determine if there is a fuse related to this or not.

When I turn the ignition forward, before starting it, this image with a car and a key below it starts flashing on the gauge and the odometer starts flashing "service". I tried using a different key with the same results, what this might be?
View 5 RepliesOk so about a month ago I went to the store got into my car turned on my car after a couple seconds it beeped about 3 times then turned off i turned it back on and it worked fine ... and now yesterday i was driving the car everything was fine till i was driving on the freeway and it beeped 3 times again and looked like it was going to turn off but didn't .... and about a half hour later driving doing about 45 mph the car beeps and turned off on me ... So I pulled over and just turned the car on and it worked fine again ...
View 4 RepliesI'll provide as much info as possible concerning an all too common problem with these cars. The radiator (passenger side) fan will run for a few seconds when the AC is turned on, then it will shut off. It does not come on when the car is up to temperature. The AC condenser (driver's side) fan runs normally. Steps I have taken so far are as follows:
A. Replaced the radiator fan -- no joy.
B. Replaced the coolant temperature sensor -- no joy.
C. Replaced the thermostat -- no joy.
Coolant level is normal and there are no leaks in the system. The temperature gauge however, never rises above cold.
My questions are:
1. What are the next step(s) to solving the radiator fan problem?
2. Is there a separate sensor for the temp gauge, other than the one in the thermostat housing and if so, where is it located?
3. Since I live in AZ where it never gets very cold, I'd be perfectly fine with having the radiator fan run whenever the engine is running. Is there a way to wire it so it's always on with the ignition?
When I started my car, there was this fishy smell coming out from air condition for about few seconds and then it was gone. I parked my car outside all the time and I was wondering if it had anything to do with the heat or because of exposing the car under the sun for too long? I just changed my air filter about 3000k miles ago.

Headlight on the drivers side goes on but then after approx. 30-45 seconds goes out. The passenger side and the brights are ok.
How do you replace the low beam bulb? which bulb do I purchase?
Is there a video showing the way to get at and remove/replace the bulb.
Door speakers work for a few seconds when the stereo is turned on, but the door volume is just a bit lower than the front speakers. Then the door speakers stop sounding while the other car speakers continue. How can the intermittent door speaker function be corrected?
View 3 RepliesMy car is usually garage-kept. Last week, I left it in an outdoor parking lot at the airport for 5 days, with temps ranging from 5 to 20 degrees. When I returned and turned it on, it responded with a very loud and visible shudder that lasted about 20 seconds. It gradually diminished, and then was fine. I've been driving it normally for two days, with no more symptoms. But this morning, turning the car on in the garage, it gave me the shudder again, this time for only about 5 seconds.

I will advise, I have the parking brake set to auto and the car seems to be functioning normally.
I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota 2WD manual trans with 160K racked up. In the morning it does not like to start right away. I put the clutch down, key in the ignition, turn it to engage the electricity, say a prayer and turn. When it doesn't start nothing happens. No sounds. Nothing. If I hold the key fully turned and wait, sometimes much longer than 60 seconds, it starts and sounds just fine. Once it is running for some time I can turn it off and turn it back on again without hesitation. In colder weather it takes much longer to start.
View 4 RepliesFor about the last 6 months or so I get a audio static for about 10-12 seconds every time I turn on the engine. Ditto after I turn off. I am using factory speakers, the head unit was replaced by previous owner. There has been no issue with the audio other than this one. I do live in an extreme weather area: +35C to -40C, but I don't think that should have anything to do with this. Is this a bad ground issue? In that case where do I find the ground cable and how to properly make the ground connection? Or is this something else?
View 2 RepliesCar is a V-8 and about two weeks after purchase, the car developed a problem whereby the accelerator will quit for about two to three seconds. This only happens when I slow to a near stop, not a full stop and then pull away. This is not to be confused with the normal downshifting hesitation which is short in duration. This happens regularly, but I have had several encounters when I was crossing a busy street, rolled into it, punched the gas and wound up sitting in the middle of oncoming traffic. Nice! The dealer says everything is fine on the computer and that this is a safety feature that VW built into the car to stop wheel spin, but it happens with the ESP deactivated as well.
