We love our Treg, but I am not happy about the clatter (like not lube for a second or two) when starting in the morning. Temps are warm this time of year. Otherwise, everything OK.
View 1 RepliesI've got a 2003 f150 with the 5.4 and 128,000 miles with an engine tick. Its not an exhaust leak I know that for sure. It has came up in the last 20,000 miles. I've used motorcraft 5 20 w/ motorcraft filter. I've tried a kreen engine treatment with no change. Heres the description/syptoms:
-Slight clatter for 2-3 seconds upon cold startup (happens very rarely)
-top end ticking that is loudest and most noticable when warm (quieter when motors cold)
-not timing chains/tensioners etc because the noise is coming from the top end and most noticeable on the passenger side.
-at idle the tick is present-when you rev at idle, the noise goes away.
-Driving (or having the engine under any load for that matter) the noise gets louder.
-Anytime I accelerate, tow/haul, go up an incline the noise gets worse
-Sounds like a "whirring" sound from within the dash.
With all that said I am thinking the lash adjusters are getting noisy. I had a certified gm tech that has 40 yrs mechanic experience under his belt and builds prostreet muscle cars on the side look at it. He listened to it to it and that was his diagnosis as well as its not that bad so just live with it. The noise at idle doesn't bother me, its when im driving with the windows down. The noise drives me crazy and is a little annoying to me.

I have a problem that my Treg makes a terrible grinding noise when starting in the morning. It sounds almost like a bad bearing or something. It lasts anywhere from 3 to 8 seconds.
View 5 RepliesI have an 04 V8 and have consistently noted a valve(?) clatter noise under moderate to hard acceleration. I mentioned it to my VW sales associate and he stated this is typical of this engine and that after warm up it should no longer occur. I hear the clatter at any time, warm or cold.
View 5 RepliesIs there any way to stop the Nav / Radio unit from turning on the radio each time I start the truck, even if I had previously shut the radio? If I wanted the radio on, I would have turned it on! I can't find anything in the MFI.
View 14 RepliesI have an 07 v6 3.6L (50Kmi) that makes screeching sound upon startup for 15-30 seconds. Not belt/pulley noise, more like valve lifters without oil noise. Trying to decide whether to go to the dealer before the power train warranty expires or to leave it alone.
View 1 RepliesThe Tire Pressure Warning went off every time I started the car. Checked pressure, no problems. I told the dealer, and he said that if you park next to another Treg, it can cause problems. I guess that the tire sensors are wireless and the interfere w/ each other.

View 4 RepliesI've got a 1997 Honda CRV. Recently when you start it up in the morning there is a terrible clatter coming from the engine. Yet, once the car warms up, the clatter totally subsides and the car runs and drives normally. Turn the car off and then start it again, the clatter comes back - but then in a minute or so the clatter is gone and all is well. I've checked the fan area and belts - nothing is caught in there. Seems like the sound is coming more from the engine. Can't figure it out. By the way - did I mention that the car now has 338,000 miles on the odometer? Other than that, the car runs fine. Is it time to give up the ghost?
View 2 RepliesMy vehicle has 113 k and when I start it cold there is a whining sound for about 20 seconds and then increases in pitch and then slowly winds down to a stop. Does not do it when motor is warm. What it might be?

View 1 RepliesMy 2011 sonata rattles when starting. It sounds like noisy lifters and quits after 2-3 seconds. It does not do it on the first start-up of the day, but on subsequent starts when the engine is warm.
View 7 RepliesI'm bringing the car in for a seat belt recall and I'm having them look/listen for a heavy valve clatter under WOT. I noticed this before and mentioned it to them, but of course they couldn't find anything wrong.
BUt it's a very noticeable clatter in 1st and sometimes second, embarrassing actually. The other morning when my GF started it saw a big blue cloud of smoke and she said it ran really rough. Is there some issue with the right bank or any bank on the engine? THere's no way that this engine should sound like that. I thought maybe it was because I was running 87, but most here said they didn't notice anything, and a "knock" doesn't sound like clatter. I also tried running 91 for a few tanks and nothing changed.
We actually like the car, but the amount of problems has been a little disheartening. I think more that when I go to the dealer I feel like they don't even know how to use a wrench.
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester with 240K miles on it. When I start the engine in the morning, there's a squealing noise under the hood that lasts for a few seconds. (Usually goes away as soon as I pop the hood and look at the engine.) I think it's one of three things: AC compressor, alternator, or power steering pump, but I haven't been able to isolate the noise to one of the three. I don't want to wind up replacing all three.
View 4 RepliesOur 2005 V8 makes an awful noise under acceleration. I think it sounds like a valve clatter, but I think I remember reading it was some part in the exhaust making the noise. I've tried all fuel options to see if it was related to what OCT fuel.
I brought it in for service (5 recalls, nice) and they didn't hear it (of course) until I took them for a ride. The tech said he remembered earlier models having some issue.
I don't buy that it's "Normal" because I don't hear other 4.2 V8s making that noise, and I sure has hell don't think a 45K SUV should sound like somethings broke when it revs past 4K.
6.2L F250 truck is just shy of 60k runs good however on cold startup there's now a pretty loud ticking noise for a short period (30 seconds) until it warms up then it slowly goes away. Once its warmed up there isn't much of anything.
Did these have exhaust manifold gasket problems like the 5.4? Hoping that's it if not, any other common problems that would make that ticking noise and then go away quickly once the engine is warmed up.
Started up the Touareg last night to come home from work and immediately heard a new noise. It is loud and clearly audible from inside the vehicle. I was able to isolate it to something inside the front driver's side fender, something above the wheel well. Sounds like a cross between a blender and a leaf blower (a device that I could certainly use at this time of the year.) Note - the noise goes away when turn off the climate control system (by lowering the fan speed all the way.)
View 9 RepliesMy independent mechanic says my radiator fan and AC fan are cycling too much. The dealer says they are not. I know it started about 6 months ago and that I get 2 miles per gallon less now. If the heat, defrost selector is in any position it happens as long as the fan control in not on off.The fans run for 5 seconds and then are off for 20 seconds. The independent says the AC has refrigerant but doesn't know what is causing it. It happens at all outside temperatures. It happens at all car temperatures. (Just started, been driving for an hour etc.)
View 15 RepliesI just bought a tranny (02J) and I'm about to pull mine out but I'm scared to pull it off just to find out that my clutch is fried. I was at a light, stepped on the clutch, put it in first release the clutch and gave it gas like a normal person would and a bang and clatter noise occurred, I pulled over and when I stepped back on the clutch, the noise went away, released it and the noise came right back. its like clattering metal keys every time that I release the clutch, even in neutral. So eventually I put it in second and it drove normally and then got it to my friends house down the block and now its sitting there.
1.8t 2002 golf 5 speed btw.

I am getting the above noise on startup, it goes away after 5ish minutes. It isn't exactly cold out. So I don't think its the oil viscosity. Its not a bad oil filter flow back valve, and its way longer than the oil lifters should make noises. I don't think it is a cracked manifold, I think the noise would be different.
Jeep wrangler 2005. 4.0L, ~99k Miles
When I have the clutch depressed and start to let out as I'm either in reverse or in first gear it makes a clatter/chatter noise. It also occurs when I have the clutch depressed and just rev the engine and it's in neutral. Some days it's louder than others. It doesn't matter if the engine is cool or at normal temp.
