View 7 RepliesWhen I turn my AC to max. power (fan) the steering wheel and the entire dash board starts shaking and vibrating. Also one can hear a "deep" humming noise which seems to be coming form the fan/fans belt etc.
View 9 Replieswhen u turn the key it starts to turn over for half a sec then stops. when u stop it sounds like the starter is still spinning. battery is good. it use to do it some times but if she tried a couple times it would start. could it be where the wires go in or the whole thing? could it be somthing else besides the starter?
View 6 RepliesMy Treg starts to idle erratically. It feel as if it want to stall once every 30 seconds. Other than that it drives great. I talked to the dealer and they said that this is typical of VW's engine. It does not make sense. I did not experienced this when I first bought the car.
View 7 RepliesI am new to the all wheel drive breed. When I turn the all wheel drive knob one click over to the right (4x4 low I believe) how much rougher should the shifting be. I notice it starts in 2nd gear, but 2-3 shift jolts the car to the point it almost snaps your neck(not WOT just normal accelaration). Each subsequent shift is a little smoother, but still very noticably rough. Is this normal? Even in the regular high mode, sometimes my regular around town low throttle shifts are pretty jolting.
View 4 RepliesI recently bought a 2004 V10 TDI. When it is quite cold outside, below -15C my Treg will not start, it starts sometimes but will stall immediately. I cannot get it started unless I wait a few days until it is warmer out. When I start it, I wait for the glow plug light to go out but it only takes less than a second, is that normal? I am thinking its the diesel gelling and I need to add an additive to it possibly, or do I need to replace my glow plugs. If I am persistent, I can sometimes get it going after 10 or 12 attempts but I feel I am going to overheat the starter so I am scared to do that often, once started, it runs fine but has tons of CEL codes which are all glow plug errors, I will clear them off, and they will not return.
View 2 RepliesI remember reading very recently about someone who found a fix to the strong fuel odor on cold starts. I can't seem to find it anywhere. I think it mentioned something about a bad ignition coil or something.
View 4 RepliesWhen I turn the dial on my sunroof control just a click or two, the roof opens to a little more than half open. Basically, the roof has maybe 3 positions between 1/2 and all the way open despite the multitude of click positions on the dial. It's nowhere near precise. I'd like to be able to open it just a little sometimes (not tilt, open).
Is this just the way it is or will my VW dealer be able to adjust something?
My car is a 2005 V6 Touareg. It has 60.000 kilometers on it and had no major issues to this date. It was well maintained. Recently, it developed a problem with starting. Before I go into more details, I have to tell this: my car has two batteries, and they are in perfect condition, verified by the dealer. The spark plugs were changed at 45.000 kilometers. It has no rough running characteristics under heavy acceleration or any hesitation - from what I read, symptoms for bad ignition coils-.
When I turn the key for ignition, the engine turns over but instead of immediately starting, keeps cranking for 2-3 seconds, and finally starts with a slow idle. Sometimes the charging light remains on for several seconds due to the difficult starting and the slow idle, but this does not last and the cars start idling normally, as if nothing happened. This happens when the car sits overnight and the engine is cold. Once it starts, I cannot get the car to do this without waiting overnight. Summertime weather seems to contribute to this but I still get it in the cold winter weather.
Strangely, if I do not use the car for, say, 3 days, the car starts like the day I bought it, without the hesitation.
I took it to a dealer and told them to check it but they said it start normally. They checked to see if the car registers any error but it does not. I am sure of the quality of the fuel I am using. In any case, I tried several different brands from different stations just in case, but this did not make any difference.
Bad ignition coil, idling sensors or mechanism, something wrong with the intake manifold? Carbon build-up (although I have to say this is not likely since the catalytic converter seems to be fine which leads me to believe there is no excessive carbon buildup).
Had to replaced the fuel pump on the R. Car started fine on initial start after completing the job.. Now every time I get in to start, it wont start on initial turn of key, it always starts on second try. The car is apr chipped, with no other mods. it will occasionally start on the first key turn.
View 20 Replies2002 VW Passat 1.8T ... Ever since I got a new MAF sensor installed in my car, I've been having difficulties starting up the car. When I turn the key in the ignition it starts up very weak as if its going to shut off again. After a few seconds its ok but it worries me because when I turn it on at first it shakes a bit and starts up as if its going to shut off.
I began to notice when it wasn't driven for long periods of time (hours) it started up with a lil weakness but not as severe when started up while driving short periods(minutes) Also with the short periods the car has actually shut off a couple of times. It begins to start up very weak and shaky and then just shuts off. Once I get moving the car is Ok its just as its starting up.
Oh yeah I forgot, the gas mileage is horrible! I am at half a tank and I've driven 100 miles. Sounds fishy to me.
Only started happening within the last month. 1994 V8 Dakota. When its warmer out, half the time I turn the key and nothing happens, doesn't even crank over, but if I tap the gas then turn the key, it starts right up. What this could be?
View 2 RepliesI have my disc changer loaded, but each time I get into the car, the vehicle starts playing the last disc that was playing - even if I had another input selected.
I usually run music/waze through my iPhone during my commute, but when I get back into the car to go home, boom: music from disc starts blaring.
Is there a fix? I've looked through the menus and haven't found anything about CDs autoplaying. The easiest fix is probably going to be just to remove all of my CDs, but I was just curious if I was overlooking something.
We have a 1999 f-150 just turned 200,000 miles. Two years ago replaced battery and alternator. Problem now sometimes starts fine, other times nothing. Can't jump it. Took battery out and had it tested and it is fine. Cleaned connectors. May start after thirty minutes, an hour, a day. Then runs fine for a few weeks or months, then problem returns. Have taken to two shops, but mechanics said couldn't find anything wrong bc of course it started fine at their shops! When wont start, Lights are on, but when try to crank, they go out and you hear nothing.
View 3 RepliesI picked up my 2016 GTI S 4dr manual on Saturday. (Pics to come later)
When I turn off the car, I hear an electric motor start. The sound is coming from the engine area. I haven't had the car long enough to stick around and find out how long it runs.
What this motor is doing? The only possible thing I could think of is running an oil pump for a few moments to get cooler oil over the turbo.
I have my car and it takes a few times to start but once its on it wont stay running if i let go of the key or the ignition cylinder ....
View 4 RepliesWhen I go to turn my car on, I have to give it 3 or 4 tries. The try before it actually turns on goes like this: turn key, engine sounds like it wants to turn, almost starts for a split second, and then shuts off. After this I can usually turn it on.
Usually the rpm's would be around 1.3k on a cold start, but when I finally get it to start it automatically dips below 1k. Then when I go to drive it, it feels like it wants to shut off on that first throttle push. It started with just an issue in cold weather, but has gotten progressively worse. Battery is only a few months old.
We have a 96 t&c. The turn signals only work once in a while. Sometimes they start to work and then freeze. Sometimes they don't work at the beginning of a ride and start to work 10 minutes into it. It seems quite random.
View 14 RepliesI have a '06 santa fe 3.5L My "TCS OFF" light "ABS" light turn on and my "4WD" light starts to blink while I am driving. Also my Transmission shifts hard and the engine revs funny (hard to describe what it actually sounds and feels like) when the automatic transmission shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. It shifts find from 3rd to 4th and down shifts from 3rd to 2nd just fine. Just have problems shifting from 2nd to 3rd and it only seem to happen when the lights I mentioned above turn on. What going on? Is this all being caused by a speed sensor? My ABS also seem a little touchy activating when road conditions are not that bad.
View 1 RepliesMy wife's 2007 Buick Lucerne's directional signal is acting odd... When you turn it to the left-hand blinker, the pace is not the normal factory pace. After two or three cycle it then starts blinking on and off VERY quickly, like those blinkers you see on junkers periodically. The right blinker is normal pace as are the hazards lights. I am looking for potential causes before I bring it in for repair. I can't say anything trigger it, other than I noticed it after a car wash. Electrical problems are not my thing.
View 5 RepliesThe car will start up and drive just fine but as soon as you turn it off, it will not turn back on. If you wait three to four hours it will restart with no problem. This repeats its self daily. When you turn the key the dash lights come on but will not crank at all. I am skeptical that it might be the alarm system;however, there is no key fab and no code for the check engine. It has 170K miles. Laughing, my sweet husband dictated this...my first attempt to describe the problem was long and rambling!
