Is this binding or just normal behavior--whenever I'm in a parking garage making relatively tight turns I hear my tires squealing. Never on regular pavement. Seems like the surface of garages is different than asphalt or blacktop.
View 4 RepliesHad my car parked outside of work for about 12 hours yesterday, and in the NYC cold front, the parking break must have stuck on slightly. When I started to move, despite the fact I'd released the parking break, I received a warning in the MFI that said PARKING BREAK FAILURE TO RELEASE. I pulled the handle again and heard it pop just a little more off. Everything worked great after that. If I hadn't received the alert I probably would have driven off with it on. I'd probably have noticed the hesitation and checked the break again, but the alert was useful. Some of the warnings in the MFI can appear to be a pain at times, but it's amazing how thorough a job VW has done monitoring the cars systems and giving real time information if something doesn't work. You just have to make sure you don't get info overload from it all!!
View 4 RepliesI have a squealing noise that seems to be coming from under the car when going 25MPH or over. It doesn't seem to vary with the rpms of the motor or how fast I'm going - it's either on or off with out much variation in pitch. Sounds like a dry bearing, but it's baffling as it will happen every time I drive for a few days, then will inexplicably go silent for a while.

View 24 RepliesMy 2005 V8 Touareg has developed a squeal from the fan motor. I've searched but not found anything else on the forums. When you turn the fan on, you hear the squeal. Turn fan off, it goes away. Change fan speed, squeal changes.
I'm out of warranty now, so I'm hoping to fix this myself...I suspect it *might* be a simple solution like lubricating the motor axle. How to get to the AC fan motor? Is this easy to find in a service manual?
I am trying to get a sense on how prevalent this issue is. Getting brake noise when stopping? It is progressively getting worse, and my Treg has been in 4 times for that issue alone. My dealership, i think has sort of given up. They tried "grinding" the edges down as suggested by VWoA, no go...
View 24 RepliesWe are waiting for the front drive shaft? It all started a while ago when the Treg started squealing in the front when cruising, it's really loud now and very annoying. Dealer says it is ok to drive on (?). I can't believe it, this sounds not good, I kinda do not look forward to the big lock-up.
View 10 Repliesfor the last couple of weeks our 05 touareg has kinda been shakey, we knew it was time for a tune-up but hubby has been working crazy hours. Today it started squealing really loud every time he would let off the gas pedal. We went to to Midas and they said that it was misfiring in Bay 1 1-6. They told us that only VW would be able to fix it, but I found a couple of sites that sell them.
View 1 RepliesI've had the Treg for about 3.5 months now and at about 1500 miles I started to have intermittent squealing from the brakes. Now at 2300 its constant. I brought it to the dealer and of course all I get is the usual BS they feed everyone... brake pads today don't use asbestos and so the metal squeaks...blah, blah... total crap. No OEM brakes should squeal (let alone on a $40k vehicle) and its never been a problem with other cars with original pads. Is there a solution?
View 8 Replies"TOP UP WASH FLUID".... is the only error i get in my display, followed by a squealing noise whenever i try to make a turn AND it seems my power steering has been turned off. at first, i thought the squeal was from a belt, or PCV valve, but i only have 46k miles(06 3.2L). i check my power steering reservoir and it was bone dry. is my fix as simple as a refilling the reservoir? or do i need to flush or replace anything? i've already ordered the Pentosin CHF 11S Synthetic power steering fluid.

View 10 RepliesI have a 2004 Toureg with approximately 31000 miles. Initially the noise Whining/ Squealing - sounds like a bad belt - would occur at approximately 40 mph and continue through the drive but if I dropped down to 30-35 mph it would stop. This would happen sporadically. Now it is occuring about every time I drive. I have had it in the VW Dealer twice and they are unable to detect the problem .
View 14 RepliesMy wife's 06 T-reg has started experiencing a squealing/whirring sound from underneath. The sound appears to be coming from underneath the back seat. It starts at appx 20MPH and continues as we drive. The sound doesn't get louder, it just continues.
Tonight when we got home, we also noticed a smell of something. Possibly a clutch-type smell. Am I looking at a transfer case going bad?
Started my treg this morning and got the tire pressure warning. Cchecked in convenience setup to see which one had low pressure, and it indicated all four tires were low. Filled tires up and checked pressure again (manually using digital gauge) and they were correct. Started up treg and still got tire pressure warning for all four tires.

View 8 RepliesI still have the original Pirelli Scorpion tires on my 2010 Touareg (30,100 Miles). For the last year or so the tires have become extremely noisy. Before the warranty expired I made the dealer check to make sure there is nothing wrong with the wheel bearings or the drive train and of course they told me everything is fine. I had an alignment done about 3,000 Miles ago since the tires showed a little uneven wear.
View 2 RepliesOkay, my newly delivered Treg came with Continentals, and are 225/55 R18s. The dealer had them all inflated to 45psi, however, the sticker in the door indicated that the fronts should be at 39psi and the rears at 45psi. Seems odd to me that the same size tire would have two different standard inflation levels, especially given that the car has the Air Suspension which would level out any unbalance in the ride height fron to rear that they may be trying to compensate for. What pressure are folks running front and rear?

View 3 RepliesIn late fall, I got a recall notice from VW for my 04 V6 Touareg and just got around to bringing it in to Leith VW (dealer I purchased from "new" with about 900 miles on it in May 2005 as one of the last '04s on the lot) in Cary today. Since it's at 18,900 miles, I had them do the scheduled 20k service, plus my state inspection was due so added that as well.
They just called to let me know that although they did pass the inspection for me, the car really needs 4 new tires because the tread depth is below marginal. Also, they said that they are not a dealer for that brand of tire so they cannot give me any kind of treadlife warranty prorating on the replacements; if I want to claim it, I need to go find a tire dealer somewhere.
What kind of BS is this? How could a dealer sell a new car with a tire on it that they aren't actually a dealer for? Did somebody pull a fast one on me by swapping out the tires for an old set laying around before I bought it?
I have an '04 V6 and everytime I turn the wheel to turn at low speed I get a sound and felling like the tires are skipping or scrubbing the ground. I have no weird wear or shakes and it tracks straight. What would cause this??

They are 19's with the OEM Pirelli Rossos on them, I'm looking for an all season tire that's high performance. I'm really lost when it comes to tires. I'm looking for something that offers good handling while lasting more than 15,000 miles. Somewhere around 50,000 maybe? Again, i don't know much about this...
