My owners manual says that when cruise is turned on there is a "cruise" symbol in the color MFI - that works as advertised. It also states that after pressing "set" at speed the set speed should also be displayed.
Do a 'set' speed display with cruise and if so do you have NAV or not. Do you have Color or Red MFI ?

When I first got this car about 2 months ago, my current speed would be displayed in the MFD when the cruise control was set to on (not activated and in use). For some reason now that no longer happens and it just shows dashes. The only time the speed is displayed now is when I am actually using the cruise control. Is there a way to get that thing back to showing my present speed like it did before?
View 7 RepliesMy vehicle shows currently two awkward behaviors:
1) I can start the vehicle using the keyless start button without having to step on the brake pedal.
2) I can switch on cruise control. The green symbol appears, however, I cannot set a speed. The system simply seems to ignore that I press the set button.
When I turn the cruise control on, a green "cruise" lights up in the center display. When I "set" the cruise so it actually holds my speed; no additional lights come on to indicate the cruise is set. I was wondering if this is normal or should there be one light to indicate the cruise system is on and another when the cruise is set. My Phaeton has the standard cruise and does not adjust for distance.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2011 GTI, has about 4000 miles on it. Sunday went for a quick ride down some FM's and on the hi-way. Got up to about 85mpg for about 10 miles, hit the exit back to the house which is only about a mile away. On that mile ride home I took it real easy maybe 35-45 mph decided to have a little AC also (outside temp 90F degrees).
I pulled into the garage sat and idled for about 30 seconds, on the MF display up pops the Cruise Control Malfunction icon ( amber on the MFI,But the owners manual says it's RED. it's a cruise symbol with a giant exclamation ) then it goes away. I looked at my cruise stalk, cruise was Off. I turned it on and up Pops the Malfunction Icon again then goes Off. Took the GTI back out and No Cruise malfunctions. Also, when I did finally park the Car both cooling fans were on for at least 4-5 mins after I had shut everything down.
Did I run my little GTI too hard? Is the Cruise control Malfunction icon like a nuisance message that doesn't really mean anything or, is it a sign CC it's already toast, or getting ready to go.
My 2009 Prius was parked for two weeks. When I started yesterday the red triangular warning light, circular yellow light with exclamation symbol in center, and vsc warning lights did not go off. No previous problem with these. Top half of display screen blank. Vehicle started/ran normally. No change in handling or braking. On highway, cruise control would not activate.
View 19 RepliesI have previously noted that the Prius display of speed is about 1 mph higher than actual as measured by GPS and those ubiquitous street radar signs. However, the OBD-2 display using the Garmin Mechanic exactly agrees with the GPS. I wonder how this relates to the well known display mpg being 3mpg or so higher than actual measured by tank fill-ups.

View 1 RepliesI just bought a 2006 passat manual version and have had it for 4 months or so. Im curious as to how to get the speed display in the middle MFD screen. Everything else (consumption, speed warning, range, route, travel time etc) works, however it when i switch to the speed option, it never shows me my current speed.
it only shows a random number (ex: 26km/h and that just gradually increases as a drive regardless if i slow down or speed up.) Ive tried holding the select button, however it just gets rid of that number and turns into dashes then goes back to doing the same thing 30 seconds after driving. How to get this to work?

View 20 RepliesI thought I would share this with all of you. I had my T2 in for 5K service. I asked again if they could change the digital display of the speed in km/h to mph. I thought there might have been a new computer update. They spent an extra day working on just this issue. The tech even called VW and went to another T2 on the lot to try to reprogram it. No luck. So - it looks like it's official. You can't change the display to MPH on a T2 with the "plain" MFI. I am working on learning the metric system - or just reading the gauge. Still love it!

My A/C dropped out, which alerted me to the temp gauge which was high, then to the "overheating" warning in the display.
I parked it to allow it to cool, then drove on with the heat cranked to shed some heat, only to have to park it again. After only a 3.5 hr wait (what a joke), VW's roadside sub-contractor showed up with a flat-bed to bring it to Rod East VW in San Antonio.
I am still waiting for their diagnosis. I did take some time this weekend to test drive a truck and look at some other vehicles, but nothing in this price range is appealing to me.
Despite the grief I go through with this thing, it's still the best value. I've got 52k miles on my loaded '04 V8.
My center display (between tach and speedometer) all of sudden went dim. Can barely read any info. Does this have a fuse or do I need to take it in for a check up...
View 6 RepliesI had my TReg in for the 5000 mile service this week. Among the laundry list of items on my punchlist for them I mentioned the compass and the fact it was going on and off and the blue light was sometimes changing from dim to brighter when the headlights are on.
The dealer indicated that VWoA has acknowledged some problems with the compass display and I'm getting a new one.
So my cruise is giving me issues, won't set the speed. Turns on and off no problem but set and resume do not work. However, turn off the car and then re-start it and the cruise works again. I know the radio is only up to 60k.

View 9 Replies"Check lights" just popped up on the display. Low beam lights appeared very weak. Hooked VAG-COM, it said that the right xenon bulb is a problem. Strangely, high beam won't even turn on!? Pulled the right headlight assembly, checked the high beam bulb - no problem. Inspected the inside of the assembly - no visible problem. The xenon bulb looked almost burnt out.

Obviously my wife and I would not watch while driving, but we were hoping our passengers could watch a DVD on long trips, etc.
