When I turn on my a/c, it gives this short hissing sound for a second or two before it goes away. Then along the road i heard random hissing sounds (not often nor consistent, just happens every now and then) that lasts for a sec or two. Could this be a future problem or is it normal?

Noticed hissing sound coming from the rear windows when the AC is on... It's very annoying so I always crank up the volume of the music. Funny thing is when you open one of the rear windows slightly and the sound is gone. I thought it was from the roof rack but it's not.......coz the sound is there when the car isn't moving too.....as long as the AC is on.....and the rear windows are closed tight.....

The hissing noise can be heard everyday when i turn on my A/C initially and later in between i can hear 2 -3 times a day when i go to my office.
After two repair shops telling me there is nothing wrong with my car, I'm at a loss. My car is in great condition except when it decides not to start. On hot days, if I am doing several errands I need to worry about if my car will work after the first stop. After driving for a bit, when I turn off my car and return a short while later it will not start. The car will attempt to turn over and the battery works just fine, it just won't start. Also, another issue I think is related and connected to this is that on car trips lasting more than 15 minutes, the air conditioning will stop working. The air will blow but the cool 'conditioning' aspect will fail and I will be stuck with hot air blowing at me. The catch to this is that after waiting 2 hours for a tow, the driver was able to start my car on the first try, thus making the tow unnecessary. Obviously my car is not 'perfect' like the repair shops are telling me....
View 1 RepliesWas having some issues with my 2000 Passat not starting after only being turned off for a short period of time (long periods of time no problem). My check engine light came was on along with the Emissions Workshop message in the display. I took it in and had it serviced at my local repair shop. They said it was something with a temperature gauge or something to that effect that was causing it to lose a temp reading. Anyways, after the repair the car starts fine, runs great, the check engine light went off and so did the Emissions Workshop display. Then a few days later it came back on...still not having any issues with it starting but what's going on??
View 7 RepliesI've read the throttle lag posts with interest. Ours only lags when performing a "California" stop where you go from the brake to the gas and look for an instant pick up. Seem to have about a second of delay before anything happens. Of course this causes all sorts of unnecessary lurching and I don't like it. Does everyone else experience this as part of their throttle lag problem?

I noticed a hissing sound coming out from under the car. It's more audible closer to the rear of the car as if air is escaping through a hole. Tires are good and not loosing air. When the fans turn on the hissing sound goes away momentarily and comes back. What could this be?

The check engine light is often on and the code is for a cam shaft sensor or resistor sensor. A companion problem is the cruise control. If the check engine light is OFF and I use the cruise control, it works fine for a while and then the check engine light comes on at the same instant the cruise control turns off. Are these 2 issues connected? How much should it cost to have the sensor replaced? The car always stays running once it starts and the problem occurs randomly. What are the consequences of not repairing it?

View 25 RepliesI've got some trouble with my 2010 T&C Touring and the A/C system. I believe it is specific to the rear, but not 100% sure yet.
Here's the symptom, while driving home a few nights ago, I noticed a hissing sound from somewhere under the dash. Research led me to believe that the r-134a was low, so I bought a few cans and charged it up. I drove around yesterday with the fresh refill, and all was well. This morning, I noticed that I hadn't been running the rear A/C, and thus, not doing a full test.
So, I turned on the rear A/C and within just a few minutes, started hearing the hissing sound again. Flash back to a couple of weekends, I replaced brakes/rotors and while inspecting after taking a test drive noticed some water pooling up under the rear passenger side tire. I checked it out, but at the time, it didn't seem significant until today when I started to put this all together.
SO, my question is, what would be leaking right above the tire? Is this something that is super common and I could somehow convince my local dealer to repair out of "good will" like was happening with the '06 model year with a similar issue? I've had to do brakes, rotors and as a result of not knowing that Chrysler calipers can't be pressed in, but instead must be wound in, replaced calipers, and also an EGR valve all at the same time. So, needless to say, I'm not excited about doing further repair.
I ran over a chunk of ice at about 15mph. I could definitely hear it scraping the undercarriage. Now, when the engine is on (regardless of RPM), there's a hissing sound (like air escaping, or a belt sliding against something) coming from the back right side of the undercarriage. What I damaged? No smoke, no leaks... just the hissing sound.

View 3 RepliesSo my 2001 SF GLS (220,000 km) has developed a quiet hiss on the RHS that's only present when I go above above about 2000 rpm while accelerating. Starts and stops instantly with the gas pedal. Maybe some crap in the fuel line? It doesn't seem to affect performance, but it could be a sign of something developing.

View 2 RepliesLast week during the extreme cold my 2006 Volvo xc90 dropped a nearly full tank of gas onto my driveway. I had driven each if the three sub-zero days and on the third day drove about a mile, parked for about an hour then came home to get my phone. I left the car running while I ran inside for about a minute and came out to a hissing sound and dripping gas. I moved the car away from my house and watched the fuel indicator go to empty. Once it was up on the flat bed tow truck the driver pointed out big splits in the tank. I am sure I didn't drive over anything or through deep snow. Could the cold have caused this? Did I mention the driveway is new?
View 19 RepliesThere's this 1.8t gti I'm buying this week from a family member and we've been trying to solve an issue that we ran into. When accelerating the car there is a hissing noise, safe to say that it is air. Then when accelerating a little harder and you feel the turbo pulling you everything seems fine. But a second or so after , the turbo dies off and so does the hissing noise. Then I can let go of the gas and repeat the process and it happens again.
My issue is that I cant figure it out since I Need to be driving to hear the hissing and the turbo cut off. I looked around the threads but nothing really seems to match my issue. No codes either. On top of that I've never owned a 1.8t and don't know much about its turbo.
My 2004 excursion left me stranded in Louisiana this weekend and I had to drive a rental back to Austin today. Was running fine and I got up to come home on sat and the turbo would not engage. When I would step on the gas I could hear a loud hissing sound, the more I stepped on the gas the more of that sound I could hear. Truck would not accelerate at all and almost felt like it was going to come apart at 50 mph. The error code I got from auto zone was turbo issue. and it gave me possible reasons. I checked hoses to and from turbo all hooked up and seemed to be in working condition. There seemed to be some black soot along the top and back of the engine. It would idle fine, but trying to drive it was impossible. I left it at a Ford dealership in Lafayette and await the news. I have a powertrain warranty up to 113,000 miles I hope it covers repair.
