Lately I have been receiving this fault which looks like it maybe my suspension, but the fault says running gear workshop.

View 14 RepliesI have been getting the "Running Gear Fault Workshop!" message on my MFI almost every day for about a week now. To clear it, all I have to do is shut down and restart and it goes away for pretty much the rest of the day. Is this something that I should get into the shop ASAP? Or can it wait a month until my scheduled 20,000 mile service?
View 1 RepliesI have experienced an intermittent fault warning alarm and light that comes on sometimes right after starting my 04 Touareg V8 with air suspension: "Fault: Running Gear Workshop". It has been to the dealer once and they could not find anything wrong so they reset the alarm and since it has continued.
View 1 RepliesThis started with the blinking compass (didn't think much of it)... then i got the "Running Gear Workshop" fault (brought it in 3 days ago and they said they fixed it)... but today the "workshop" fault returned, the voltmeter went dead and blinker indicators in the dash went dead (even though the blinkers are functional).
Boston VW just told my wife the "battery is fine" and then admitted they have "really have no idea what's wrong with it. 2004's are a mystery because they were released before the 'bugs' were worked out"... but they would be happy to get us a rental car (and have us pay for it) and they will try and figure it out.... (probably turn it on and off a bunch of times till the problems go away).
I have an early V 8 04 Touareg with over 60,000 miles. I have had no serious problems and it has been remarkably reliable until recently. I have had multiple "running gear workshop" faults related to the air suspension in the last month.
View 4 RepliesThe LCD appear a message when I am driving, Fault running gear. But the message disappear after restart the engine.
View 6 RepliesI have seen a bunch of the older posts. My V8 has been back to shop 4 times for the same problem. I keep getting "new battery cables" new command modules, power draw, etc. but no solutions. I am almost at the end of my warranty and am afraid i will go past without resolution.
View 1 RepliesIt's Sunday afternoon and -20 degrees in northern Wisconsin. We are at the cabin after a nice weekend in the snow. I start the treg and the MFI has a yellow differential symbol. Displaying Status, the MFI says "System Fault" and "Workshop!" That doesn't sound good so I call 24 Hr assistance and they can send a tow truck 90 miles but that can't tell me what the warning means. Naturally, the Owner's lit says nothing about this warning.
View 9 RepliesSince we know that most VW service sucks, I'm taking my 04 V8, Nav/Air Susp 35k miles in tomorrow because the whistling/rubbing noise was bad enough on the ride home from work last night that it started freaking me out.
I want to tell the service department to at LEAST check the following:
Whistling: Gets worse with speed and when the car gets warmed up. Sounds more like rubbing when you get going. Check the drive shaft bearing.
Running Gear Fault: Check air suspension piston rings ( I need to look this up again) Something to do with the air bag or air pump seal.
Hesitation: There should be a TSB for this that can be fixed with a computer adjustment.
Once upon the time "Stop Fault Running Gear" appeared on central display in my T-reg V6TDI3.0 model 2006 with air suspension. What does it means? It happened only two times, once in snow off-road driving, second on the off-road testing area. I take the car to the dealer, but what does it means.
View 2 RepliesTook the wifes Treg in today for:
1. Crazy vibration at idle (feels like a V8 running an aggressive cam!
2. Running Gear Fault light on at random
3. Loud "ting" noise under WOT (sounds like a soda can in a bicycle wheel.
4. Onstar - Service not recognizing spoken numbers when trying to dial
5. Air Compressor - works for 5-10 seconds then shuts off, have to restart vehicle to get another 5-10 seconds of air
I had the service manager take a ride and identify all the complaints (other than the compressor and the Running Gear Fault)..he said he will stay on top of it. If you recall, last time I took it in for the vibration at idle, I was told that since no fault codes were present, their is no problem. When sitting at a light your head is literally bobbing up and down, everything loose in the car is shaking...just horrible.
They should have it for a while. I got a Treg V6 as a loaner and actually like it better than the V8 (my wife disagrees). Power is onpar with a vehicle of this size/weight. Felt great, but handed the keys to the wife and grabbed mine and RAN!!!!
One of my issues is a "level fault workshop" message and abs/ esp lights that only appear once I put the car in gear and start moving.
The car does seem to raise and lower normally and there doesn't seem to lose height over night.
To check if it's a particular wheel height sensor, what controller should I scan in vcds? Nothing related to suspension came up in my full auto scan.
I did have an intermittent brake light switch code, could that generate the level fault?.
I recently had my front axles replaced and a week or two after I'm getting this code for level fault workshop. Do you think it could be something they did when they replaced the axles. I also had the secondary radiator replaced.
View 11 RepliesThe EPC light came on the the MFD read: Engine Fault Workshop! This happened once before for about a second, but today the car dropped to limp mode and would not recover. She had a flat bed take it to the dealer and they "reset the throttle" and it is okay now. Aside from running the adaption routine, I am clueless what this means. I will scan the codes tonight.
View 9 RepliesSo my car wouldn't start after work. I went and replaced the starter battery and no problems. I come home and won't start again. Both batteries are good but now I get a message, system fault workshop vw phaeton And key pic comes on screen.
View 11 RepliesI have 2004 V8 Phaeton ,the message LEVEL FAULT WORKSHOP. keeps appearing ,then disappearing, sometimes it will stay until the car is turned off,. When it comes some times even on long highway journeys I wont see it at all!. When it comes on nothing seems to change.
View 6 RepliesI was queuing for the Dartford Bridge yesterday, and had been about 20 minutes in crawling traffic, when for the first time ever the DPF indicator came up on the dashboard with a message to check the manual. Then moments later I got the engine fault, workshop alarm which was quite insistent. Reaching the tolls I pulled away and then 'booted' it for a while in sport mode and both indicators disappeared...so I thought I had cleared the problem.
I reached work without incident, but then when I came to restart the car later in the morning, I had the engine fault come up again with a very insistent chime. I phoned my dealer and took it in...the DPF indicator coming up again while in traffic on the way there. The fault has been diagnosed as a faulty diesel particulate sensor, which is now being changed on Monday when the part arrives.
Noticed the vehicle was riding low on the passenger sign, and then received a fault code on the driver's screen "Level Fault Workshop" what is this? I can't find in the faq section...
View 9 RepliesI have a 2004 Phaeton which has been having multiple problems with error codes. I keep getting Level Fault Work Shop. When this code comes on the ABS and EPS also fail and can only be reset by restarting the car. My VW dealer is having significant trouble finding the problem. Thus are they have repalaced the batteries, and the control module for the ABS. I think an option could be the battery control module.
View 9 RepliesI have just had what I feel like is a big problem. It started raining tonight( I don't know if it's related) and I got back into my car, after putting the baby in the rear passenger seat, and started it up and the "System Fault Workshop" warning came on, with a warning symbol next to my tpms symbol that is shaped like a key, and the "car outline icon" in the center had the rear passenger door light blink open. I hope that made sense.
I tried to restart the car to see if it would go off, and it won't. The infotainment doesn't light up, and the blinkers don't work, and neither would the high beams. So the steering wheel lights/controls are dead. Also my keyless entry doesn't lock/unlock the car. I couldn't find anything in the manual, and the only online I could find that might be related is the following: " the actual issue is/are leaky seals on the front latch solenoids/actuators, period.
I just tried to go start the car again, and the alarm started going off. Then I started the car to try and stop the alarm, and it kept going off...Then I thought the battery might have something to do with it so I opened the trunk with the key since the button in the drivers door wouldn't open it, and the alarm when off when I manually opened the trunk.....What am I going to do now?
The rear seat footwell lights are on, and you can see a youtube video of the warning lights at: [URL] ...
Because the battery gauge in the dash showed the battery being completely dead with no charge, I tried to "jump" the car with another car using jumper cables hooked up to the battery in the trunk on the drivers side. Again the alarm went off when opening the trunk, and when starting the vehicle, and the battery gauge was still completely dead.
On the way I get a msg saying that there was a gear fault. Not sure what it is and I can not find anything using the search. What this may be. After restarting the egg, the message has gone away.
