Touareg :: Ride Felt Hard On Bumpy Roads
Mar 30, 2007
Went to sport mode again today (after TSBs) and the ride felt hard on bumpy roads, really stiff. I want to upgrade to 18's or 19's to get a better feel of the road in the summer, just want to get some input from those that have had the TSBs performed and upgrade to larger wheels as well.

Been hearing a plastic sounding tapping noise when I ride over very bumpy roads. Turns out the floor panel in the trunk has some play and it's not padded. Well I wedged a towel Between the floor and the trunk lid and the tapping is gone. I was able to duplicate the sound by lifting and dropping the sliding floor in the trunk. Anyway I'm thrilled car is supple and quite over bumpy roads now. I went over every bumpy road I could find; nice and planted and quite now...

I bought a 2015 Subaru Forester. Our test ride was on a smooth road. After buying the car, I noticed how bumpy the ride is on only slightly rough roads. Also the paint has some cracks near the door edges. Have a 2015 Subaru Forester and noticed the bumpy ride.

A couple weeks ago I was in a hit and run, someone in a parking space decided to not look behind them before backing up into my passenger side front door & fender. The problem didn't happen till I got home & only when I drove it the next day it started happening. Every time it hits a bump the speakers start crackling and also make loud sounds that are like pops. Also the radio work's only sometimes unless I hit the top of the dash above the deck. Also only some of the speakers work together when they do, but they transition with the bump hitting or my fist pounding the dash from pent up anger from my radio not working.

If your getting weird squeaky noises from bumpy roads I found some resolution...remove all of the foam from the trunk that holds the tools and such. I was getting this sound that was driving me nuts and tried this and its completely quiet now....

I recently purchased a used 2012 Camry SE V6. I realize the SE has a sport suspension, but around 35-50 MPH it rides very bumpy. It almost feels like I have bent wheel. I've taken it to the dealership 5+ times and they said it's the torque converter, but there is no repair for it. I went to another Toyota dealership and have the field tech drive the car.
Unfortunately, the bumpy ride started to go away and the tech didn't think it was that noticeable. A couple weeks have gone by and the bumpiness is back. Also, I have new Michelin tires put on at 16K miles and the car has only 18K on it. The wheels have been balanced and the alignment was good.

Just recently I've noticed clunking in the rear of the car while driving on bumpy roads, on semi-smooth roads the clunking barely happens. I jacked up the rear of the car today to check for broken brackets/bolts/ect. and found nothing. Re-greased the sway bar bushings and tightened down the endlinks a tad (part where it attaches to the sway bar, the top ones look tight but didn't check. ). Cant seem to find anything wrong. The car is 40k miles, had tein solara springs since 3k miles, got the 23mm ur racing sway bar put in at around 15-20k miles, and then bc coilovers around 35k miles. My best guess is that the rear endlinks are done and need replacing.

Have noticed since I had my car that I have a mild sunroof rattle. If I push on the rear right corner of the sunroof glass I have feel a little bit of play. This play is causing rattling on bumpy roads. I had the same issue on my 07 GS350 because it was slammed ( rode pretty ruff like the ISF), but I cant remember what they did to fix the issue. I am assuming it needs some insulation or tightening. Pretty sure with the way the ISF rides and the number of members we have with lowered ISF that I am surely not the only member with this rattle.

The sunroof seems to squeak a lot while driving on bumpy/ uneven roads.
Before I didn't know where the squeaking sound was coming from, I assumed it was from the doors. But when I opened up the sunroof the squeaks went away and when I closed it the squeaks came back. The sound is so irritating sometimes that I am forced to drive with the sunroof open.

When I go over bumpy roads I get car noise. Seems worse than 6 mos ago. Maybe I'm imagining it. The noises are diffuse and somewhat varied, not limited to a single area. And varies in intensity with the bumps.
Anyway, I tried testing for bad shocks by pushing down the front and back of my 2004 Honda Pilot and watching the return. But I didn't observe much. I couldn't get much vertical distance on the push down, to begin with.
Incidentally, there's no instability while driving...no up and down bouncing, no lateral movement, no problem when braking or starting.

Here over the last week or so I've noticed my car start to have a bumpy ride around 35-42 ish mph, and around 65-70 ish mph. It feels worse probably around that 40 range, and seems to be even more pronounced during acceleration. It's not a super high frequency or anything, maybe just a couple hundred HZ. I have been driving it considerably more over the last month with my new job (around 140 miles a day, mostly highway/interstate driving). I've got an oil change/ fluids checked about 3 weeks ago or so.

I love my 2011 Prius. It's relatively quiet in low speed drive and can't beat those MPGs. One thing that does bother me though is how bumpy the car rides. It is somewhat tolerable in the summer and fall, but as soon as I start driving on winter roads I feel like I'm riding on a tin can, feeling every single road bumps. Does the car usually feel the same for others or I need to change someone on my car. I still have the factory Assurance tires (36K miles). Are those the problem or should I get the struts checked (even though I'm pretty sure they're fine)?

Noticed a plastic rattling noise near their back speaker housing while driving over bumpy roads? I started noticing this sound over the last week or so, and thus far can only isolate it to the rear speakers area.
I also tested the rear shade up and down to make sure that wasn't rattling against the roof, but it wasn't. I also took everything loose out of the car just to make sure it wasn't some random object. The annoying thing is.. the sound is NOT consistent-- even while driving over the SAME bumpy road AND everything I feel is very tight and solid. So bringing it back to the dealer is a bit premature I think since I can't duplicate the problem consistently yet.
Btw, I have the JBL Synthesis system -- 11 speakers.

On bumpy roads, and on most highways, there is a slight humming/rattling noise to the bottom left hand side of the steering wheel. Its really only audible when there's no music on, which happens to be how I like to drive. I've tried pushing on some of the panels when i hear it, to see if it dampens the noise, but no leads so far.

I have a 1998 3.8L with 1995500 miles. When I go over big bumps there is a sound from my right rear that sounds like a diving board after someone has jumped off.
I assumed that is was the rear struts needing replacements so I asked someone to look at it and I mentioned the struts. Of course they said I needed new struts all around. I accept that.
What I want to make sure is that replacing the rear struts will fix the diving board problem and that these guys aren't just saying struts because I said struts and they just want the $$.

My wife and I have a 2016 SFS 2.0 and with 20k on it. We have noticed while riding down bumpy roads we can feel something loose in the steering via the steering wheel, and a clunking in the drivers front.
Also the car started making a BRRR noise while braking and turning for about 1 second. Only makes the noise when braking and turning at the same time.

I took my 2007 Rx 350 in for a tire sensor replacement and was given a 2013 Rx loaner. While the cabin was quieter the ride was horrible. Very rough and bumpy. When I asked the service manager about the ride, he said Lexus had changed from an independent suspension to a solid suspension in 2010 and the ride was bumpy. Why would Lexus change to a less comfortable ride???
I am in the market for a new car, and wanted a new RX but the ride is so bad compared to my car, they lost my business. If you are considering an RX, get ready for a rough ride.

I recently drove to work last week and the downtown roads suck, ever since noticing this it seems like my brand new sonata is very bumpy. Its like now I am noticing all the bumps. Tires seem to make a lot of noise too.
Also when accelerating it seems like i can feel it in my foot on the gas pedal. I would say like vibration but not a vibration if that makes sense.
Any sonata owners notice when they have their foot on the gas pedal its not so smooth. Can you feel the engine working through the pedal?
This is a brand new car with less than 2,000 km on it.

I'm noticing my 2013 F-Sport seems to veer to the side on bumpy roads. It's totally straight on flat roads, but I notice it when I'm about to change into the left lane.
It's got 31k miles and has Bridgestone tires.

It started happening after our week vacation at the beach. Not sure if the salty air caused this or what. We mainly notice it at lower speeds on bumpy/gravel roads. No noise when the sunroof is open.
