What this might be. I have a rattle type noise coming from behind the glovebox. It is only there at low speeds and driving on poorly paved roads. It is definitely not in the glovebox. It has been driving me crazy for some time now...

Problem: Noise or rattle in engine compartment, at low speed (less than 25miles/hour) on uneven pavement (not potholes). Can be replicated over and over.
The dealer acknowledge the noise and has tightened all suspension parts, greased all joints, replace front-right shock and bushings (for some reason the noise is more prevalent on Right side), put some sort of tool with sensors in different areas of the chassis to "hear" noise differences while driving to determine the culprit.
Description: To me, the noise sounds like there is something lose in either the engine compartment or the area where the wipers are located. Sort of like if there was something (plastic maybe) hitting the chassis (only at slow speeds - I cannot hear it when driving faster I guess because of engine and road noise). I have not been able to figure it out.
The noise was present only on another 2007 with 8K miles.
i honestly do not know how to describe this one...sounds like a clickity-clack or something...very peculiar...always when i start the car and idling...or even stopped...i cannot tell if its constant because of music and the engine noise <shrug> ?

First is I'm sure the heated external mirrors arent heating up, yes i have the switch set to middle for heat but they don't seem to be getting warm like my m3 does. i would check the fuse but i see no fuse for mirror heating! What is the fuse number?
Second problem is a very noisy clicking noise coming from behind the glovebox, i've videod it and heres the noise [URL] .... I've done a bit of searching and think its the blower fan but i want to be 100%...
OK, when I first got the car in June it needed strut mounts so I got the 034's and new bearings and all was good, recently I noticed just a creaking/knocking type noise, not the same as before. So I checked the bolts on the mounts just in case and they are good. Been reading lately about the subframe and it is leading me to believe that may be it. The noise is more noticeable at slower speeds when just going over slight road imperfections(like small dips) and sometimes I do not hear it at all even over rough roads?
View 6 RepliesI have an annoying rattle which is getting worse the more I drive. It appears to emanate from near the glovebox but I can't place it. I've emptied the glovebox and the rattle is still there and even driven with the glovebox door open and it still rattles. Is there a known issue in this area? I've tried searching on the forum but I'm not having much luck.
View 4 RepliesSo, I have a new neighbor that owns a 2010 Toyota Highlander (out of warranty). Recently, the vehicle has had a on and off "rattle" type of sound that comes from the rear of the vehicle. He has tried to get it into the dealership to take a look, but since it comes and goes, it's hard to duplicate it at times.
Anyway, we noticed that if you put the seats down (60/40 split) then push them up with some force the "rattle" stops for awhile. So, we are thinking that this sound is coming from the rear seats. What to check? Could it not be "latching" properly? It seems solid when you sit in it and rock, or if you push/pull on them.
I have a 2003 Camry XLE L4, and there is a grinding type noise when I turn the steering wheel at low to intermediate speeds, and when I go over a bump. I can also produce the noise when the car is parked and I bounce the driver's side up and down by placing my hands on the left fender. The struts, steering rack, and CV axels are all new. Also when the car is cold, turning the steering wheel produces a squeak (a different noise) from just behind the steering wheel.

I have almost 10,000 miles on it, and other than an assorted rattle and a persistent shimmy in the wheel at certain speeds, despite rebalancing and rotation at 7,000 miles, I love it. It's quick, handles very well, and rides great. It's a topic of conversation everywhere, and while this is a matter of opinion and as I value mine I'll give it to y'all, it is one of the best looking SUVs made.
View 10 RepliesI have a 1996 Ford Explorer (4WD model). Approximately 4 months ago I had a new set of tires put on it, and in the process of replacing the tires the shop noticed that I had a bad ball joint and one of my wheel bearings was going bad. They said the ball joints were known for completely failing, but the wheel bearings usually didn't, so they recommended that the ball joint be replaced first. That is what I had them do. I haven't had the money to get the wheel bearing replaced yet. This past week it got worse to the point where I can hear it now.
At low speeds I can hear a grinding/rattling-type noise from the front drivers side (that's the side that has the bad wheel bearing). At higher speeds the grinding/rattling-type noise fades away due to road noise, but I can still hear a humming-type of noise that is a bit loader than normal - this noise just started a couple of weeks ago so I'm suspecting that this might also be related to the bad bearing.
I won't have the money to get this fixed for another 2 weeks. In order for me to have the money in 2 weeks I will need to continue working at my job 2 days a week. It's approximately 2 hours round-trip from my home to my job. Obviously with the bearing sounding significantly worse I don't want to drive it any more than I have to, but the only way I can get the money to fix it is to keep driving it back and forth to work.
Here's my question. What risks am I running by continuing to drive this? Am I running the risk of the wheel falling off while I'm driving down the freeway at 70 mph? Am I likely to experience other damaged parts in that area of the vehicle?
I have a 06 touareg v8 air sus, loaded. Today was the first time towing my bass boat with this truck, and on the way to the lake, I keep hearing a weird noise, sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, something like a rubbing banging type noise. At first I thought maybe the factory hitch wasn't bolted on very well, but this is not the case(as I could tell not much to see under there) I tried jumping on the trailer to emulate the sound but this didn't work. Its not the trailer brake, which is a self actuating system, that checked out ok.

View 6 RepliesStarted getting a noise a few minutes after startup. I can hear it click on and then it sounds like a loud electric motor/pump/fan type noise. Starts pretty loud, then gets quieter (but not gone) after 30 secs. If I turn off the engine, it stops and if I immediately restart, it's gone for a couple minutes.

View 5 RepliesI've been recently very annoyed by a sound I can hear when driving between 5 and 40 mph. It sounds like the window or door seals/weatherstripping is repeatedly losing static friction to a shaking door or window. If I push forcefully outwards on the window the sound seems to be reduced.
I have about 22k miles on the card so far. I'm assuming I should go to a dealership, but I'm afraid some of them will dismiss the problem with some excuse or another.
My 2012 Honda Civic, with 71000 miles, is showing obvious signs of ball joint problems - a rattle at speeds over 50mph, and LOTS of noise when I go over a bump. I had a quick oil change yesterday, then immediately noticed the problem. Brought it back to the manager of the shop, who looked at it and couldn't find a problem (naturally). He said that the car would pass inspection with flying colors.
Is this a coincidence? Could I have worn ball joints on a car that's 2.5 years old? What could these people have possibly done to cause this problem? Could it be struts? The winter has created frost heaves which turned my street into a third-world road, and the car was involved in an accident 1.5 years ago when some lady ran a red light on me.
I've owned this vehicle for the past year. This 2009 Corolla XRS manual has a very annoying steering rattle which took me the whole year to finally breakdown and diagnose. There are many forums stating this rattle is associated with the intermediate shaft assembly #2. I did end up replacing this part 45260-02110, hoping this would fix the rattling or knocking issue. It did not, but smoothness the steering has improved. I removed the upper portion of the intermediate shaft to pinpoint the sound. Originally I believed the noise may have been coming through the bulkhead from the intermediate shaft #1 or steering rack. I checked under the boot and everything was snug. Then I rattled the steering wheel around and this what I found.
It seems the noise is coming from the pinion where the power steering motor meets the steering column. You can hear the knocking noise with settle steering wheel movements. As I move faster, the knock turns into a rattle at higher speeds most likely vibration from the road. At this time, I do not want to disassemble the whole column just to see if I can adjust the motor height (if possible).

This rattle from the ignition lock is really annoying and comes from the ignition lock, it sounds like some friction b/w metallic objects.

View 6 RepliesI purchased my 2004 Blue-silver V6 Touareg last week. So far all is well. Except for one major problem. I keep hearing a noise under the bottom when I am at very low speeds. It has an axle-grinding sound to it. Here is my problem -- it comes and goes. I took it back to the dealership and they heard nothing. I drove it for a day later and heard nothing. But once again the noise came back --- last night and this morning. Keep in mind -- I am not using the sportshift or offroading drives--I'm just driving on the interstate and as I exit off an come to a slow stop -- "I hear this weird axle noise under the bottom".
