After discovering my wood cracking on the doors, for some reason I decided to look at the passenger side mirror, which used to, repeat, used to go down in reverse. It no longer does. Don't tell me this is first model year shakedown problems. All of the problems on this board signal a car that was put together very sloppily, with absolutely no quality control.
View 9 RepliesDoes the base model have the passenger side tilt mirror option when you select reverse. I have read that it is standard equipment and I know that the mirror selector has to be in the right position, but it doesn't seem to work. Are there any procedures on doing this?
View 24 RepliesFirstly, when i put my car in reverse, my passenger side view mirror does not automatically tilt. is there some sort of setting i must go to?
Secondly, I was wondering if it was possible to AUTOMATICALLY fold the side view mirror when i off the engine, or lock the doors, and for them to automatically unfold when i start the engine or unlock the doors! Instead of manually turning the knob.
I went into the Menu, and there was an option under "locks .... ---> mirrors", and i selected sync. Does that have anything to do with my question?
Thirdly, The rain sensing wipers. I have to activate this by pulling the lever up ONE STEP to the intermittent mode right. I tested the rain sensing wipers with a bottle of water! and the sensor is at the rear view mirror. The question is that when i off the engine and leave the rain wipers under Mode ONE (one step up the lever from off) the car doesn't automatically activate the wipers if it rains. I have to push it down to off! then back to INTERMITTENT MODE! Is this normal?
I have a base model V6 Touareg. The passenger side view mirror doesn't tilt down in reverse (even with the mirror switch in the R position). Is there a VAG-COM setting to enable this feature?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2001 B5.5 1.8T 5spd, no packages passat. My dad recently got a 2000 V6 B5 auto, loaded. His passenger side mirror will tilt itself downwards when the car is in reverse. Is there a way that my car can do this? It sounds damn handy living in the city.

View 3 RepliesI picked up my car after 10K service at the local dealer. I get in the car, put tranny in reverse and started driving. Then I noticed that my right mirror is off. So I got out of dealer parking and stopped. Then I looked at the mirror and it was perfectly aligned!
I heard that this feature (mirrors will adjust when you drive in reverse) in Mercedes and some other cars, but nort VW. I was wrong. My Treg has the same feature. The only trick is that your mirror switch in the cabin should be turned to right, like when you try to adjust right passenger mirror. That's it.
Every time you will switch to reverse, you right passenger mirror will turn 30 or more degree down. I was very surprised and pleased that VW has that little feature.

Is this a regional thing? I changed my region. Could that be the reason? It doesn't seem to adjust as far down as it used to. Left side works fine and it adjusts in other directions as it always did.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Jetta GLX VR6, automatic, that I have been going over for my son. The passenger side mirror doesn't adjust when I shift into reverse. I moved up,(towards the top of the housing) a little. Shifted to park and then back to reverse and it moved up again and doesn't return. I have changed the mirror switch, the mirror motors, and have dis-connected all the electrical plugs on the transmission. I figured the plugs needed to be plugged and re-plugged to clean the terminals, but no luck. Is there a switch or sensor that needs to be replaced on the transmission? All the fuses are good. What needs to be done?

View 14 RepliesI seem to be having a problem with my passenger side mirror and it's reverse function. I have a 2008 Passat Lux. I set the mirror reverse to 'on' in the MFD. I started the car, leave it in park and set up my seats and both mirrors. I press set and then 1 to memorize the positions and hear the chime. I then proceed to put the car into reverse, switch the remote mirror dial to 'R' and position it go down.
The problem I'm having is that the manual says that the passenger mirror will go to it's original set driving position if you go over 9mph (or something like that) or if you move the remote dial to something other then 'R'. But that's not the way it's working. It should ideally go back to the original position when you put the car in to drive (like my old 2002 Passat GLX did), but even when I drive off and go over the stated mph, the mirror doesn't go back to the driving position.
While I'm driving, I then turn the dial off the 'R' position, but it's still looking down....I honestly don't think that I set it incorrectly, but hopefully I am and I don't have to bring it in to service for just that. It's a convenient feature that I want to use. Don't want to curb rash my wheels by my sloppy parking or my wife's....
Problems with the passenger side automatic mirror sticking in the down position (position it assumes when Touareg transmission is put into reverse). I have had my Touareg for about 1 week and the mirror does not return to the regular position when I place the transmission in drive.

View 11 RepliesNot the typical "why don't they drop down" question. Mine do drop down in reverse. Any way to only drop the passenger side mirror? I strongly dislike my driver's mirror dropping down.
I frequently find and park in a space with a curb to the right of the car. And I park close to it to leave maximum space to the car to my left. In order to minimize the door dinging potential. I like the RH mirror to drop so I can put the tires like an an inch or so to the curb.
But I very rarely ever curb park to the left side. It makes it too difficult to get out of the car.
That being said, I look for obstacles out my LH & rear view mirror. I can't see obstacles when the LH mirror is pointing at the ground. Yes, I look at the screen in the car also.
Any way to change this? I have not found a setting in the customizable setting menu for this.

As I want to use the electrical mirrors to adjust my driver side mirror, passenger side mirror moves too. Is it possible that these faults caused by not coded ECU?
I connected ground wire of my LED to blue and black cable connected to the mirror and ran another wire from unit 10 in 16 pin door connector to live wire from my LED.
I am just curious about my passat side mirrors ... the passenger mirror is smaller then the driver side?

View 12 RepliesI have a rather annoying high pitched tone coming from the front passengers side widow/mirror area. The dealer says it's normal wind noise from the mirror and can't do anything about it. I think they are just being lazy, and I think it's actually a window seal issue.
Here are more details; I hear the noise typically only at speeds above 60-65mph, although I have heard it as low as 40mph, but was driving into a head wind (so the combined air speed was about the same). It is a high-pitched, high-frequency noise that almost sounds like a continuous tone. It is loud enough to be annoying even with the radio on at moderate volume. It will disappear completely at speeds lower than mentioned above. It is localized only to that one side. The drivers side mirror/window is silent (for this issue at least) no matter what speed I am going.
A recent road trip gave enough frustration on this issue to make me begin experimenting. I taped up various mirror seams in a number of configurations and none alleviated the noise. At one point I rolled down the window about an inch to see If I could hear it more clearly from the window. The noise disappeared but I thought the turbulent wind noise at that speed might be masking it. So I rolled the window up and then just *tapped* the switch down the slightest amount and to my surprise the high-pitched noise disappeared completely, yet I did not open it enough to hear regular wind noise. This all leads me to highly suspect a window seal issue, and not mirror noise at all. Cracking the seal so slightly must allow the pressure to equalize canceling out the noise.
When I took it in for the issue they say (of course) "Can not replicate, wind noise from mirror within factory spec, no action taken" and something about cracking the window "re-aligns the flow over the mirror into the cabin reducing the noise" sounds because the drivers side is as silent as the grave, and the mirrors are symmetrical to my knowledge.
