Having overhead blue compass and clock start unexpectedly flashing on and off? Its like a strobe effect. Mine does that occasionally. What that may be?

View 3 RepliesLast night I noticed that my overhead clock and compass were dark (turned out it was dead). I tried to access address 6E on my Vag, but it can't be found. This appears to be the ONLY thing not working. BTW, my onstar still works.
View 8 RepliesI am preparing to replace the compass/clock combo in the overhead display with a detachable ham radio head. I am now worried that the navigation unit might use some information provided by the compass. If removing the compass will disable any features on the navigation unit?
I don't know if the module in the overhead display contains the actual compass or if the compass provides any information to the navigation unit to supplement GPS information.
How to set the compass/clock light above to stay on? I tried looking at my owners manual, but it doesn't say anything about keeping it on only to reset the compass. I always have to press the button, but it only stays on for a few minutes. I want to keep it on permanently when I turn on the lights.
View 10 RepliesHow do you keep the compass/clock from turning off when driving at night? You know the near the sunroof.
View 2 RepliesIs the overhead console clock supposed to be on all the time?
View 15 RepliesWhile driving I noticed that the compass is not working or its gone into some mode or something. It shows PM 0:15. Pressing any of the 3 buttons doesn't do anything except holding down the 2 small buttons at the same time brings the name/version of the compass software and releasing seems to reboot or refresh the display. But after that it comes back to PM 0:15. I should also say that after parking and locking the car the display keeps flashing the PM 0:15. 15 minutes later I checked same thing it is still flashing. Whats happening to my compass?
View 7 RepliesOverhead compass went blank. Could it be a sensor outside or is compass kaput?
View 4 RepliesI just bought a used 1999 explorer sport 4wd and my overhead console, with temp and digital compass is not working (doesn't come on at all).
View 14 Replies2004 6.0 lariat ... The compass on my overhead console has gone dead or at least doesn't show anything other than sometimes calibrating ... All other functions miles to empty etc work fine just the compass feature ...
View 2 RepliesI know the first thing you all will say is to check my fuses and relays. I already have done every last thing related to that to try and figure out the problem. The only thing I can bring my mind to consider is that one of the relays located on the back of the interior fuse box, might be the problem. However I cannot get to that easily without tearing my car apart, which I do not want to do without truly knowing that is the root of my problem.
I had a collision guy (family friend) look at my car for free, knowing he had limited knowledge on electrical, he thinks that it is my ECM or ECU possibly.
Amongst the clock, radio, and keyless entry being out, my gauges spin around when I turn the car on, and my door chime also fails.
I truly don't think this is the case because I didn't think the ECU controlled the radio and lights, more so that it controls when the car shifts and such.
Rear view mirror, the tempurature/compass work fine when the vehicle is sitting still.
As the car accelerates, the mirror "temp & compass" begin to flash all sorts of digits and then goes blank. Mirror is plugged in properly.
Is there a temp probe somewhere under the hood that could be loose and starts to move upon driving? It works fine when not in motion.
It just started in the last few weeks. After powering down and opening the doors, the overhead lamps will intermittently flash on and off (in a fairly slow succession...i.e. 5-10 seconds between cycles). I thought the 3 settings were: Always on, on when door(s) is ajar OR always off. I have it set to the middle setting and this oddity has me stumped (maybe I need to revisit the manual).
View 5 Repliesnot always, but the odd time I see out of the corner of my eye the compass flicker off and on. maybe 1-2 times a day... sometimes less than that. is this a common occurance?
View 6 RepliesMy compass is on all the time and DRL are "off". I just noticed that the compass light dims as soon as I turn the headlights on and gets bright when they are off!!!
View 2 RepliesI had my TReg in for the 5000 mile service this week. Among the laundry list of items on my punchlist for them I mentioned the compass and the fact it was going on and off and the blue light was sometimes changing from dim to brighter when the headlights are on.
The dealer indicated that VWoA has acknowledged some problems with the compass display and I'm getting a new one.
I had a leaky sunroof issue over the weekend. I was driving in rainy weather on I-80 in Sacramento and water started pouring (very steady drip) out of corner of the compass module on Saturday. A few minutes later it started dripping out of another plastic seam towards the rear view mirror.
The head liner also started getting saturated near the compass. I took it to the dealer Monday to fix some other issues, and they said they could not replicate the leak problem, but that they did blow out the drain plugs. I guess my question would be, even if the drains were blocked, how would water get down the head liner and into the compass area?
I look and it appears that the only holes in the sunroof tray are on the sides, which I assume are the drain holes. Did my dealer really do anything by blowing out the drain holes? Additionally, I have only had my Treg for 2 months and have not used the sunroof much due to the weather this year.
I have a 2000 F-150 5.4 SC 4x4 XLT. It has the overhead temperature and direction display. It has started flashing randomly. I don't know how to describe it, but I have a couple videos. Sometimes it doesn't illuminate at all for a while. What is messed up to cause this and could excessive water splashing cause it. It started after going down my driveway which ha water running deep in both tracks the whole 1/2 mile.
There are two videos but one isn't wanting to embed.

This located near the sunroof controls. It is very hard to read during the day.
View 9 RepliesI have been having the drip problem from the area around the compass every time it rains hard and i accelerate. I told the dealer and they stated that the problem was the drainage tubes were clogged and charged me to clean them out. Since then i have had to have the drainage tubes cleaned 3 times and it solves my problem for a short period of time but then i have to do it again.. I have had several cars with sunroof as well as a cheapo explorer and not once did i ever even have to have the tubes cleaned.
View 2 RepliesI complained about this 8 months ago and they replaced the compass display module. Then my battery died about 6 months ago and they replaced the compass control module. Now it's flickering--worse than the first time where the backlight was turning on and off. It's just the backlight that appears to be flickering.
