I have a 2006 Touareg with the V6 engine.
Recently, the oil light / shut engine off light came on, and during deceleration, an odd chirping noise was heard.
Oil level is fine. Previous owner claims to have had it changed every 6k with full synthetic. What the culprit might be?
Well I noticed the fans are running at shutdown, then next day check engine light plus the jack light which I was able to turn off. I have had the same symptoms several months ago and they went away. Now its back.
View 5 RepliesI have an 87 Dakota with a two-piece driveshaft, bought it new. A couple months ago at 140,000 miles there came a chirping noise from the rear at acceleration from a stop. I changed the u-joints with new Moogs and had a new center support bearing pressed on at a driveline shop. Reinstall driveshaft same as it came out. The u-joint at the diff was shot, the other two not far behind. The chirping vanished as expected, but was replaced with a slight vibration felt in the seat starting at 50-55 mph. I dropped the truck off at the driveline shop to get the driveshaft balanced. They put it on the balancer and called to say they couldn't balance it, the indicator kept jumping around and wouldn't stabilize. I asked them to reinstall it and came to pick get the truck. The guy who worked on it said that this was usually a u-joint problem. I asked what brand they used and pulled he out a Neapco u-joint box and said they use them exclusively and have never had any problems. I ordered Neapcos from RockAuto. Will replace the Moogs and see what happens. After they reinstalled the shaft I drove in the freeway and it acted exactly the same.
I was very careful when pressing out the old joints not to stress any of the yokes, applying pressure to the u-joint members at right angles to the cap being pressed out and not to the cap 180 degrees opposite. When installing the new joints, after inserting the clips (interior) I pressed all clips snug against the yoke. The joints all moved freely in all directions. Again, the shaft was replaced exactly as it came out.
I want to say that I love my prius but I am having an odd (although minor issue).
When I accelerate a I hear a noise (it sort of sounds like a cricket rapidly chirping, only a lower pitch or maybe a phone on vibrate).
What this could be?
I have an 87 longbed Dakota that I bought new. It's my work truck. Lately it has developed a chirping noise that I hear best with the rear slider window open. I think it is safe to say that it is not coming from under the hood. When I accelerate from a stop the chirping noise increases in pitch and frequency. The frequency does not change when the auto trans up shifts. There has been no noticeable out-of-the-ordinary vibrations, even at freeway speeds.
I have stopped driving on the freeway since the chirping became impossible to ignore. The chirping becomes less and less audible the faster I go as the pitch and frequency increases. When just starting from a dead stop, it sounds like a metallic scraping noise. Whenever I take my foot off the gas the chirping stops, even when still coasting, so it only occurs under load. It does not occur when the truck is stopped and the engine is revved.
I've got a 2004, V8 with about 65,000 miles. If its 75 or above and the ac is running the HVAC will start this whining or chirping noise. It seems fan speed related. Its coming from the passenger side, not the drivers side as some of the other posts mention with their situation.
View 1 RepliesGetting a chirping noise from the engine? It started happening yesterday but quickly went away. Today it's been happening more. It seems to be coming from something that looks like a metal bowl on both sides of the engine. I took it to the dealer once but it wasn't making the noise when it got there so nothing they could do about it. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow when its light outside.

View 10 Replies2013 Elantra manual. 60,xxxkm, owned from new, purchased in August 2013. Oil changes always done within 5-7000km. Was 2000km over my oil change due date when this happened (haven't had time to get it done, been driving my motorcycle mostly). Driving around today I dropped my wife off, then I heard a quiet ticking noise under very light acceleration.
The noise would go away under normal acceleration, no noise while revving, and no noise while engine braking. The noise got worse after about 5km. I was in traffic and engaged the clutch into first gear, the car stalled violently. Turning the key results in a click, then nothing. In 1st gear the car will not roll forward. In reverse the car will not roll back. It still rolls in neutral. Had it towed to my local Hyundai dealer and got a rental. Waiting on the results.
Never saw a drop of oil on the ground while parked, and never smelt any oil burning. I run between 87 and 91 octane, whichever is available. I have the extended 160,000km 8yr warranty, hopefully this is covered as I still owe about 15g's on the car.
My car has been making this chirping noise for a couple weeks now, and I can't figure out what is causing it. It's really bothering me.
The noise is sinked in with the rpms. While in neutral or while I have the clutch in, the noise stops. The higher the rpms I'm running, the faster the sound goes. I opened the hood the other day to see if I could figure it out, but all I found out from that is it sounds like it's coming from under the engine cover.
Engine? Maybe a component near it? Maybe it's just the cold weather constricting parts to a smaller size?
My 2015 Touareg 3.6 VR6 FSI makes a strange sound when shut off ever since new, it is a 3.6 VR6 FSI, just engine make the same sound when shut off?

I own a 1999 F-150 V6 4.2 and would like solving what sounds to be a chirping noise coming from the engine. Noise is pretty consistent at which occurs at first startup while in park, drive or reverse and definitely every time I hit the gas from a standstill. The noise is pretty faint but bothers me just enough to where I want to ask the experts. Anyway noise began roughly days after I washed down the motor. I sprayed some degreaser on it and was very careful - making sure to cover the fuse box, alternator and high flow k&n intake air filter.
I stayed away from cables and just used a garden hose. Recently I had the lower idle pulley bearings replaced, serpentine belt and alternator. When I took to Ford for a new belt (it was old) and to inspect the chirping noise, they said # 6 spark plug was loose and that was the reason for the chirp (they called it a ticking noise). First of all how does a spark plug just come loose? They hand tightened it back and I drove the truck for less than a week then the noise was back. Any possibility this sounds like something specific that is wrong? My research says that it could be anything from the belt tensioner to the cam sychronizer to the heat shield around the cat converter.

Noticed a coolant leak a week ago, refilled with coolant, and as of today the coolant warning has not come back, so whatever it is must be a very slow leak. Today I took the opportunity with the unseasonable warmth in Chicagoland to investigate.
Got the T-reg up on jacks and belly pan removed, ran the engine while inspecting the bay, didn't see anything.
After I shut the engine off, however, I noticed a small but somewhat steady dripping coming from roughly the middle of the front of the engine block.
Pulled the plastic cover off one of the pulleys, part # reads: 022 121 341. I couldn't find a match anywhere online, but I got tons of results for 022 121 011, which is the water pump.
Last night I drove to pick up my wife from work, well I got to the place and put the Touareg in park and shutdown the engine. The light switch was in Auto as it was getting dark and the lights had come on while I was enroute.
When I shut down the engine the interior lights stayed on, as well as the taillights I noticed. I sat in the car waiting for 10-15 minutes listening to the radio with the interior lights on. Was I draining my battery? Should I not do this in the future by switching the light switch to off from auto?
I have used this forum to look up everything I've needed to since I bought my 05 F250 FX4 6.0 brand new. I was pulling our brand new camper in 100* heat. I began to hear a clicking from the truck from the engine compartment that would be right by the turbo. My engine started overheating, but I had no smoke (black or white). The engine cooled down after I was done climbing the hills, but I had feathering from by the air cleaner and the clicking/chirping was still present.
I pulled over to let the truck cool and checked my coolant reservoir. While pulling over, I lost accelerator pedal responsiveness. The turbo was also engaging a lot. I pulled over. Put the truck in park, but left it idling. As I was looking around under the hood, the truck died. I have not been able to start it. (This all happened Saturday). The truck is 20 miles from home, and I've been out tinkering every day. Here is what I know:
1) I have 48 volts to the FICM.
2) I have tried to start it early in the morning and in the evening when temperatures were low.
3) When I crank, I do get oil pressure from the instrument cluster.
4) The oil level is at the correct markings on the dip stick.
5) Using my scanguage II, I have verified an IPR reading of 14.8. As I crank, it goes up to 84.7. My ICP reading is all over the place. It always gets to above 500, yet it with the key off - engine off, I get a reading higher than zero. With the key-on I go from 300 to 500 and to over 1000 with out the think even hinting at starting.
6) I have oil in the oil filter housing.
7) I have fuel in the upper fuel filter housing bowl.
8)The batteries and alternator have all passed load testing.
9)I tried to start the truck with the ICP disconnected, and didn't have any luck.
10) I have no codes set or pending.
I am at a loss. I don't want to start throwing $$ at various parts.
I have a 2012 3.5 eco boost. It has 82,000 miles. I just purchased a large travel trailer. That is the first thing I have ever towed. When I was accelerating onto the interstate the engine started making a chirping noise.( not the normal turbo whistle). It went away when the rpms came down, and now every time I accelerate, it makes the same noise around 2000-2500 under load.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius with 111,000 miles on it and lately, I hear a loud chirping, whining sound that is louder under acceleration and seems to vary only according to acceleration or deceleration. Acceleration makes a louder sound. The noise does not occur when vehicle is cold and first driven. It's only after it's driven for awhile and things are warmed up but then again, it doesn't always do it even though it's warmed up. Not sure I could reproduce the sound if I brought it to a dealer for service. When the noise does start up, it's very apparent and loud and then, after awhile, it goes away temporarily only to start up again.
View 5 RepliesSo, my "new to me" 04 Excursion makes a belt chirping sound for a second with hard acceleration, usually 2nd gear, not always, but should I be concerned, I can't tell if it's the transmission, it does NOT appear to be slipping. I googled the scenario and people are mentioning a tensioner or belt that should be replaced.
View 10 RepliesOur 2005 V8 makes an awful noise under acceleration. I think it sounds like a valve clatter, but I think I remember reading it was some part in the exhaust making the noise. I've tried all fuel options to see if it was related to what OCT fuel.
I brought it in for service (5 recalls, nice) and they didn't hear it (of course) until I took them for a ride. The tech said he remembered earlier models having some issue.
I don't buy that it's "Normal" because I don't hear other 4.2 V8s making that noise, and I sure has hell don't think a 45K SUV should sound like somethings broke when it revs past 4K.
