Touareg :: Oil Leak Under Oil Pan?
Oct 11, 2007
Having oil leak under about where the oil pan would be. Had it over there and they could'nt fine it. They though it was a power steering fluid leak and order and new clamp but still leaks. Clear oil like power steering fluid not black like diesel oil.

So I recently discovered what looked like SIX oil spots on the garage floor under the new TDI. No bueno! I brought it back to Schmelz VW to have them give it a look-see. They inform me that they can find no evidence of an oil leak (let alone six of them) and that all fluid levels are correct.
They suspect that what was on my garage floor was the trans-Atlantic rustproofing that gets sprayed on in Europe, and then gets cleaned off pre-delivery by the dealer. They can't clean ALL the nooks and crannies of the undercarriage and engine, so some of the rustproofing will work its way out over time.
So far, I'm not noticing any reduction of oil on my dipstick when I check, but when you've got close to four gallons of oil, a few drips won't show up on the stick. Service Managers, are you aware of this rustproofing business, and does this story check out with you? I want to ensure that I'm in the clear.

This is the second time that I have notice the car leaking just below the oil filter. The leak does not occur immediately after the oil change, rather after several thousand miles. This is the second time in a row this has occurred. Can the filter loosen to allow small leak? Could the mount be warped? Did not think anything of this first time it happened but strange after the second. It is not a lot of oil, just a drop or two overnight.

I had a leaky sunroof issue over the weekend. I was driving in rainy weather on I-80 in Sacramento and water started pouring (very steady drip) out of corner of the compass module on Saturday. A few minutes later it started dripping out of another plastic seam towards the rear view mirror.
The head liner also started getting saturated near the compass. I took it to the dealer Monday to fix some other issues, and they said they could not replicate the leak problem, but that they did blow out the drain plugs. I guess my question would be, even if the drains were blocked, how would water get down the head liner and into the compass area?
I look and it appears that the only holes in the sunroof tray are on the sides, which I assume are the drain holes. Did my dealer really do anything by blowing out the drain holes? Additionally, I have only had my Treg for 2 months and have not used the sunroof much due to the weather this year.

Yesterday, my check engine light turned on and in checking the scanner stated that it was a leak in the intake air system. I'm a student and don't have a lot of money, I was wondering if this something I can check myself or even fix.

My wife has a 2006 Touareg V6.
Noticed a coolant leak a week ago, refilled with coolant, and as of today the coolant warning has not come back, so whatever it is must be a very slow leak. Today I took the opportunity with the unseasonable warmth in Chicagoland to investigate.
Got the T-reg up on jacks and belly pan removed, ran the engine while inspecting the bay, didn't see anything.
After I shut the engine off, however, I noticed a small but somewhat steady dripping coming from roughly the middle of the front of the engine block.
Pulled the plastic cover off one of the pulleys, part # reads: 022 121 341. I couldn't find a match anywhere online, but I got tons of results for 022 121 011, which is the water pump.

Yep that's right a leak around the compass area. It first happened a month ago while driving in the rain. A few drops came out of the area between the headliner and the compass on the passenger side. The other day a couple of drops came out of the other side (driver). I took it to the dealer the next day and they couldn't find any water. Even after removing the whole top console and running it through the car wash. They couldn't even see where any water may have been.
Happens at speeds over 45mph. Raining outside for at least 2 hours. Sunroof had not been used for at long time due to Winter only a few drops have come out so far at one time. Has only happened twice in the 4 months we have owned the car.

My 2010 'reg started getting water soaking into the headliner after several hours of heavy rain today. I did a little searching and found the following TSB: [URL] .... . I'm not sure if it would apply to mine since it states its for 2004-2006.

As the title says, this has been leaking for months now. I hardly use the rear washer, but it constantly drips out of the wiper arm. Washer fluid now bakes onto the paint in the hot sun.

Today afternoon I started the Touareg and got a noise, check the hook and there was a lot of antifreeze on the front of the engine and the belt splatter all over the front of the engine.
Could not see where the leak was coming from, re started the engine there was a lot of antifreeze.
All temp where ok and oil showed no water on it.
Drove to dealer only a few miles away and when showed the engine the engine was dry just the splatter. Left it there for them to check tomorrow.
Could the water pump go bad, never replaced or noise? Have 110,000 miles on the car and just replaced belt a month ago.
I am hoping is not a leak on the head.

I recently noticed that our washer fluid is leaking. We had a massive snowstorm just over a week ago, and we accordingly went snowboarding. After returning that night, the fluid warning went off. I filled it, and that was that. We went again the next day, in which I used no washer fluid at all. The wipers alone took care of it. Anyhow, that night I kept getting the signal to top up the washer fluid again! I had added a full gallon the night before! So, I figured something was up.
Last night, I actually witnessed it dripping from underneath, about where you think it would. I wasn't able to see the actual tank, or any of the lines leading up to the filling spout, so I couldn't tell if there's a crack in anything, or if there's a bad connection somewhere.
Before that, the only indication that there might be an actual leak was "blueness" on the garage floor, but it honestly didn't look like any more than what you would get while filling the tank and having some miss and land on the ground. It wasn't a massive puddle or anything. The other indication was the "top off" warning.

2004 VW touareg v6 - engine light on - autozone diagnosed as code P0456. Possibly gas cap, so I replaced with aftermarket gas cap from auto zone. Light still on. What can I do or replace to fix problem. I read something about a N60 or N80 valve. Is this something I can buy and replace myself. Most of my mechanical experience is related to working on a 85 CJ7 with an inline 6cyl or Chevy trucks. If the N valve is a easy fix, any instructions and pictures of how to do this.

I have a 2004 Touareg V8 (55K miles). Recently I've noted significant rain drippage from the overhead console (sunroof equipped). I've reviewed this forum and note some previous communications regarding similar leakage, which apparently was attributable to poor seals between the outer skin and the sunroof structure (and there has been a TSB released for cars under New Car Warranty).
Is there a system of drains that are accessible (as in my 2000 Jetta, which drains through channels in the door posts) which could become clogged, and which I could unclog (as in my Jetta), before I spend the money and hassle of taking my Touareg to the dealer/service person?

I just purchased a 2014 Avalon Limited on March 28, 2015. It is brand new and after driving it a couple of times I noticed some oil on the garage floor. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed seeing oil, cleaned all residue and added "dye" to engine oil and let engine run for 30+ minutes and then inspected for leak. They didn't find any leak or seepage and told me to drive it and monitor. I took it home and parked it and sure enough there are several drops by the next morning. The car has 320 miles. I don't want them to tear apart the motor to replace a gasket or seal and reassemble. What can I do? This was obviously an initial defect.

I have a 08 Camry I took to the dealer last evening due to a CEL. Said the gas cap had a slow leak, if it comes on again, to bring it back and they will replace the cap. It has under 20K on the clock.

After hitting 100K mile, every single time I fill her up, I smell strong gas smell around my gas cap area. And yesterday I was about to see my friend around 6pm and check what I found. Gas was leaking under the car. I don't know what is happening and I did all my maintain whenever it come.

Oil leaking from or around the area of the transmission oil cooler (heat exchanger). This item is at the lower right front of the V8 and has 2 oil lines and 2 coolant lines running into it.
I've got oil in general vicinity and blowing back onto the lower control arm. I've removed the heat exchanger and cleaned everything thoroughly and reassembled to try to see where the oil is originating from. After running the vehicle it is very difficult to pin point the location. Looks to almost be sweating out of the cooler (heat exchanger).
Very likely the cooler or the lines but hard to pinpoint.

My boyfriend has a Volvo with 100,000+ miles, not exactly sure what year, but he recently found out the Gas Tank has a leak- ON TOP of the tank. We scratched our heads and tried to figure out how this happened. How did this happen? He does normal city driving, hasn't have an accident or bump into anything. He took it into the mechanics and they said it would be around 3000 repair/replace. How the tank got a leak on the top?

I just arrived home from a 100 mile trip and I noticed a huge fuel leak, it is under the gas cap. I opened up the gas cap and I hear a noise coming from the inside of the tank so I just closed it and moved away.
