I just bought a used 2004 Touareg. I think I got a great deal.
I have noticed the noisy windshield wipers, the condensation on the windshield, minor binding problems when turning, and some hesitation/jumpiness in the throttle. I talked to a dealer today and they said if I had a list of things to fix, they could do it in a day.
Wife said the front windshield wipers were noisy, after a bothersome back-and-forth, she finally indicated they were "chattering." Hindsight, it would have been better for me to just drive it and see for myself.
Anyway, bought new blades (not just the refills) and installed them last night. Learning from my mistakes, I drove the car operated the wipers and now there is a horrible squeak. BUT:
It seems as if it is coming from the area of the actual wiper assembly and not from the wiper -- you know from underneath the black plastic cap that covers the end of the passenger side wiper -- pix below.
Anyway, before I get into to this....I assume I can pry off the black plastic cap, but is there any "user serviceable parts" under there that might be causing this noise?
I know from what I've read that this tsb should have been addressed on my vehical (04 V8 early vin). The car has had two previous owners and the 2nd purchased as vw certified. I bought the Treg when it had been certified again 18 months later, so why does this "binding" due to the stepper motor software still exist after all tsb's have been performed
Its happened twice in three weeks now........when you shut down and start again everything is ok.
While driving, the windshield wipers on my 2000 Saturn sometimes come on without me turning them on and they continue to operate for several minutes after being turned off. What is causing this and is it an easy fix?
View 1 RepliesMy front wipers have quit and have seen a similar thread a while ago indicating that this is something others have encountered. This happened once before about a month ago, and they started up again a few days later. So I don't think it is the motor. The back ones work, the fluid works, but no fronts.
View 2 RepliesJust got my Touareg a little over a week ago and used the wipers for the first time today and noticed that they make a rather loud noise everytime they wipe the windshield (I believe the driver-side blade is making most of the noise). It's hard to describe the noise but it's probably the most annoying. It seems to be loudest when it's drizzling or misting and the wipers engage (triggered by the auto-sensor). How to to resolve it?
View 10 RepliesEvery time my wipers go they chatter or bounce on the glass as they go across. Even when there is a TON of water on the windshield it will still do this... though not as much. It seems to happen more at the bottom of the wiper.
I don't know if it is a design flaw with the wipers, if I just have a bad set of blades, or what could cause it. In the past with other cars I have only had this problem when I tried to wipe dry glass.
Got in the car this morning and my headlights,windshield wipers, and turn signals would all not turn on or work.
I'm not sure if the this is a problem with the stalks on the steering column or possibly a relay.
When i pull the left stalk my high beams will come on but only when i do that.
The windshield wipers would not turn on at all and the windshield wash would not even spray as well.
I also noticed that my AC/Heat controls wouldnt respond either. Any clue as to what it might be.
I have a 01 Chrysler Sebring 4D Sedan. I have been working on cars many years, never done tie rods. This my first attempt, I messed something up I believe. I replaced both inner tie rods and outer ends. I followed what I thought was correct procedure., counted turns on ends coming off. Installed new ones the same amount of turns. Before I did this the steering was fine. Now when I turn sharp to the right or left, like turning in to a driveway, I get an awful binding grinding noise, and I can feel it shimmy in the wheel. It will even stop the car going hard right. I can see evidence of rubbing on the CV boot closest to the wheel on the pass side. I assume I messed up somewhere with setting the steering when I installed the Tie rod ends to the wheel hubs.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2004 Santa Fe GLS 3.5L AWD. Months ago I occasionally started noticing a strange sensation when backing up like the wheels were binding. Since it was intermittent I really didn't think too much about it and I don't drive the SF much except during bad weather or on vacation trips. The issue has gotten much worse and happens every time I drive it. This past week it bound up while turning into a tight parking place.
It binds to the point that the vehicle will just stop under normal acceleration. Backing up it does the same thing. When I finally got pulled into the parking place it felt like someone bumped me (I don't remember if this was before or after placing in park). I also feel it when taking very tight switchbacks in the mountains.
So doing research on this I came across the TSB about the Transfer Case Control Module, however after visually inspecting my module I determined it was made in May 2004 so it does not apply to the TSB.
Is it possible my module just went bad? So I am wondering what I should try? Replace the module with a used one (if I can find one) or foot the $300+ bill for a new one. Either way does anything need to be done to program it?
I have some big time slop in my steering wheel, and what started as a type of binding when turning sometimes, is now really sloppy - almost dangerous
Is this the intermediate steering shaft? I just want to be 100% sure that I get the right thing before I buy it, as it's a dealer only part.
My 2009 Impreza 2.5i manual transmission makes a clunking binding when I turn. What the issue is it goes away and comes back.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra with 59,000 miles. When it is warm out (70 F+), the sterering wheel makes a binding noise (squeeking noise - it is hard to describe) when turning. It doesn't do this all the time and it is much more noticeable when it is warm out. The temps are usually mild. This is a recent problem as I haven't noticed it before.
Should I be concerned about this? I want to get it checked before the 60,000 mile mark in case this is a serious issue such as rack and pinion steering problems.

View 9 RepliesI have an 05 V8. When backing out of a parking spot at close to full lock I feel it binding a bit. Also, occasionally when pulling forward (at or close to full lock) it will bind for a few seconds, then it feels like it releases. I recently drove a long (10 hours) trip and when I parked it when hot it seemed to bind/chatter even worse.
I also noticed that on slow hard turn (i.e parking lot) there seems to be a low pitched moaning sound from the rear end area. It it possible it a dreaded stepper motor, even on a 05? It is an early 05. What this might be before doing this so they don't jerk me around and say there's nothing wrong.
I recently had the windshield replaced on my 2006 Chevy Equinox, and for a few months everything was fine. Then the windshield started sounding like wind was coming through the top but it doesn't leak water. I have had the windshield reinstalled by the glass company and that didn't fix the problem. The local Chevy dealer tells me that they have had the same problem when replacing windshields on the 2006 Equinox that they can't get them to stay quiet, and their best advice was to buy a new car. Other than the very noisy windshield the car runs and drives fine and only has 120,000 miles on it.
View 5 RepliesI bought a 2004 F250 Crew Cab LB 4x4 with the 5.4 Motor and when I turn left it has some Tight Spots and I can't figure out why, I checked the Drive axles to make sure the locking hubs were unlocked and they spun freely, I Also have a lot of play in the steering wheel, Could this all be Related to the Steering Box? What else should I check for ?

I called the installers, they came back and took the arms off and put them back on. All wires appear connected, though I have not checked voltage. I have no rain sensor. The rear wiper still works. It's an oem windshield...
