Touareg :: New Tires On Front - V6 Shakes While Turning In Reverse
Sep 16, 2004
Dealer put two new tires on the front of my v6 touareg...long story about why....anyway.. Now when I am in reverse pulling out of a parking spot, and I cut the wheel either way... I get this shake that is like the tires are going to fall off.

The car is a manual transmission 2005 Toyota Corolla with around 90,000 miles. I'm not the only owner. The car was bought used. It appears that the car was in a front end accident that doesn't appear in a carfax report. This can be identified by the poor clearcoat paint job on the hood flaking off and the absence of the air conditioner, as well as some rather pathetic body, work with noticeable bends and a few missing screws. Most of which I consider cosmetic and irrelivant to the car's operations.
The tires are bald and the car has had an alignment about 2 years ago after I replaced the struts. I wasn't notified of any bad ball joints, but that doesn't mean thats out of the question. The car has a bit of a shake at high speeds. Sometimes the shaking is violent enough to reduce speed. I noticed that more often the shake is really bad above 60 and quite scary above 70. This isn't always the case. Sometimes the shake isn't as noticable by comparison.
At low speeds the car seems to have a wobble or repeatative hop. The steering wheel has a rythmic pattern moving back and forth a few degrees. Enough to make holding a full cup or soda not a safe choice unless the desire is to wear the drink. The wobble appears to be a little worse when the car is cold. Winter mornings seem to bring out the worst in the wobble.
I would like to do as much work on my own as possible to save $, but I realize I may need professional service equipment to diagnose some of this. Can car tires be diagnosed for having bulges with some sort of test aside from visual inspection alone? Is there a tool that can be used to verify the metal of the wheel is true and not the source of the wobble? Do wobbles and shakes derive from bad tie rods and/or ball joints? What is the most common problem that produces symptoms similar to mine?
I enjoy the car's money saving potential, but it lacks an air conditioner which is vital for defrost operations and keeping the insane summer heat tolerable. If the repairs will cost me more than the car is worth I may choose to invest that money into a 2005 model as a replacement since I've grown tired of the lack of radio and no air conditioner. I'm trying to keep 5ish years behind the curve as not to waste money on the politics of new car value depreciation.

I have an '04 V6 and everytime I turn the wheel to turn at low speed I get a sound and felling like the tires are skipping or scrubbing the ground. I have no weird wear or shakes and it tracks straight. What would cause this??

My budy took his touareg to the dealer today because his front tires are wearing funny (cupping). The dealer said that is normal for the touareg. I am having trouble believing that.

1999 f150 4x4 reg cab V6 standard, 4x4 shifter on the floor, pull it into high light comes on, front diff actuator goes in, put in 1st only back tires spin, put in reverse front and back spin (I was on a patch of icy road) I can hear a slight clicking noise maybe when in forward gear but its very quiet so could be normal? When I am underneath everything seems to be working and engaged.

Is it true I can never have different types of tires between front and rear? Even if the size is the same? I put on winter tires the other at the front. The result was a nasty noise when I would accelerate and release the pedal suddenly... I had to switch back to my old summer and (unequally) used front tires.
I wonder why that is. Furthermore, the wear on my tires is not equal between front and back.

i have noticed that my front tires are wearing quicker on the inside. that is to say they don't seem to be wearing evenly. have almost no tread left on the insides of front tires and these tires only have about 13000 mi on them. is this and aligment problem? dealer says no.

When turning left , I felt that there was a shock from front wheels. The service person told me that it was a differential problem and the controller unit is needed to reprogrmmed. Is it true? When my Touareg ran over the bump, I felt that the front suspensions were not adjusted well. Is it normal?

I have a 2004 V8 standard suspension Touareg and when I make a turn and turn the wheel all the way to either the right or the left the Touareg feels like the front wheels are skipping and I can feel a shuddering vibration from the steering wheel. I have the Pirellis on it.
I have 6,000 miles

I have started to notice a crunching sound seams to be coming up thru the front wheels only when turning tight corners this seams to be related to outside wear to both front tyres.....

Just had new front tires installed today and drove home. Car felt fine driving at 60 kph. Drove tonight on the highway and felt a bit of shaking. Its not as severe but can be felt sightly. Didn't feel this (slight) shaking with my old worn tires at highway speeds. What could it be? Btw, bought the car used last year at my local dealer and I haven't done an alignment yet since then.

My 2007 ES350 will not stop shaking at 75-80 MPH and when I decelerate it shakes till I get to 60.
They found the left read rim to be bent but I didn't expect the shake to be in the front. Both tires have been balanced and the rims are fine.
Could the transmission cause this problem?

Ok,I have brought my car (2005 Toyota Echo) into the shop three times and they can't figure it out. I have summer and winter tires. Last summer the summer tires were fine, the winter tires were fine, then I changed the front tires, and couldn't remove the back tires (I hit them with a hammer and 2x4 and they didn't come off). From that point on my car has vibrated at around 60mph, but not 100% of the time.
I took the car in to the mechanic, they changed the back tire for me and balanced the front...still vibrates, they then balanced the back...still vibrates. Now they say the disk rotor is bent, and want to fix that but aren't sure that will fix the problem. What's going on, I changed the front tires and now the car vibrates at high speed most of the time, but not all the time.

I recently replaced the whole rack and pinon on my 1997 Honda crv and i had to drop the muffler and drive axle as well as drop the engine about 2 in"So i supported the the engine with a jack and wooden blocks then i remove the bolts that hold the engine mounts and drop the engine when i replaced the bolts and torqued then to 100ft lbs the car shakes when in reverse HOWEVER WHEN I PLACE A LONG SCREW DRIVER ON THE MOUNTING FLANGE (where the bolt of the motor mount comes through and into the motor mount) THE NOISE STOPS. AS SOON AS I REMOVE THE SCREWDRIVE THE NOISE COMES BACK. the motor mount doesn't look like its in bad condition

we bought a 2005 5-speed Honda CRV with 75,000 miles on it. At the time, they dealer we bought it from replaced the clutch and throwout bearing, as it was part of the sale. The car has ALWAYS shook in reverse (esp. on a hill) and very intermittently when starting from a stop. Brought it back to the dealer, replaced the front stabilizer bar, and front motor mount (which was torn) and it's not really any different. Is this just normal? We had a 2002 Subaru outback that did the same thing, never know what it was. It does NOT shudder under normal driving conditions, only in reverse and from a start. My husband seems to think it could be a problem with the flywheel, but wouldn't it shake in every gear?

My 2000 Eclipse has a really bad shaking problem when put into reverse or drive. Also, it bogs down really bad when accelerating when first put into gear. It is the gs model. And I've searched everywhere online for an answer. It shifts fine. The idle drops down to around 500 when put into gear.. Whats the problem..

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima and when I turn my air conditioning on my car starts rattling and shaking on the passenger side as well has makes some noises. When I turn the air conditioner off the noises and the shakes goes away. Is this something I should go have looked at or is this a problem I may have to wait until the situation gets worse, such as no air conditioning?

I have a 2005 Subaru forester. It's got 127k and when I turn at slow speeds (like from a stop sign onto a main road) it shakes/vibrates. I called into Vox Pop when a mechanic was on the air last week and he said to check the serpentine belt. We did and it isn't loose/rotting, etc. What this might be?

Here is my situation. I have a 2004 Hyundai Elentra. When I turn the wheel to the right or left 75% of the time the engine moves and there is a grinding or clunking noise. It only happens when the car is in drive or reverse and the brake pedal is pressed down. So it starts that shaking when the wheel hits the 10 or 2 spot on the wheel. It doesn't happen with it is in park. The other day I slammed on the breaks at a stop and burned rubber. I also hit a curb on the right that day.
I had a suspension guy I know take a quick look and he says there is a lot of engine movement and thinks I should try changing the torque mount whatever that is. He thinks when I slammed on the breaks it moved the engine. But why would it grind when the break is pressed and the wheel is turned? does this sound like a mount issue or like a break issue? The back breaks have a squeak but that was happening before this happened. Online everyone talks about cv joints and how dangerous it is to drive on bad ones. Starting a new job this week and want to make sure it will make the drive and that it doesn't sound like a cv joint or something serious.
