I have a muted popping noise coming from behind the dashboard. It occurs with ventilation system on and off and stereo on and off. Happens most often when vehicle on a little uneven pavement.
View 1 RepliesMy Dad just bought a 2004 v10 and has somehow messed up the mute function on the car. He Now has both the Radio and the Nav muted and cannot figure out how to fix the situation. He doesn't like to use the computer and asked me to figure it out. I'm sure I could stumble into it if I wasn't 800 miles away.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2011 f150 xl with the basic climate system. I'm having a couple issues with my hvac system. Initially when I took over payments on this truck I was getting a little popping noise under the dash that would go away after a couple pops. I took the bezel off to look at the radio and how it was mounted for a separate issue when I put everything back together I started the truck and now that popping is constant (it is the blend motor actuator, I've already determine that and have a new one coming) the other issue I got is that now the ac will only blow through defrost no matter what button I push. When I start up it will blow out the defrost like the flap is in default then it will blow out of the dash for a few seconds and then go back to blowing out of the defrost. I still have speed control tho I don't have 1 ,which I didn't have before that, and I haven't tried temp yet but I'm assuming it still works. Do the newer trucks still use vacuum to control the flaps or is it all electronic? I've noticed when I look at the actuators they all have a plug end instead of a vacuum port. And would the defrost vent issue be a dash control issue or would it be the actuator for that one a
s well?
I have a very strange sound coming from the multi color display in the instrument cluster. Whenever the display is on (no need to start the car, just open the door) there is a humming or buzzing sound. Not very loud, but loud enough to get on my nerves.
View 15 RepliesI have an '03 Screw which I've noticed now has an intermittent muted beep coming from somewhere in the interior of the vehicle. I've had the truck for 9 years, and this is the first time I've noticed it. It seems to come randomly but no more frequent than 2-3 minutes apart. As I am typically driving the vehicle, I cannot stop to locate the source. It reminds me of the low battery beep on my Blackberry, but like it's tucked away in the console or glove box (I checked - it's not the BB...).
I have a recurring SES light which is attributed to cylinders 1&4 misfire (discussed at length in a different thread), but I don't know what would cause this beep. I have read about the 5x5 "airbag light" beep, but this doesn't seem consistent with that. It does not seem like a repeating pattern - just a single beep, which sometimes varies slightly in length but is consistent in pitch and volume.
It's another thing in the growing list of gripes that are pushing me toward selling it. Just afraid of something big coming along unexpectedly... trying to manage the little things so they don't turn into that big one.
I have a 2008 Honda Accord. When I start the engine I hear a muted clacking sound not a whoosh like air and then it disappears after a few moments. This does not happen after I drive the car to the and park it for less than a 3 hours but if parked longer it occurs again.

First noise, when the transmission is in neutral, clutch pedal not depressed, I hear a noise from the clutch (makes the TDI sound louder than it really is), if I put the car in gear, the noise goes away (even if I put it in neutral and keep the pedal pressed in), sounds like the pressure plate or clutch could be making that noise, is this normal or not ?
Second noise, when accelerating (especially accelerating hard) above 3500 rpm or so the engine makes a weird muted sound, I can't really describe it, maybe like bubbles of air in water would do, but muted ... it's a weird sound !
Popping coming from their driver seat? It mostly "pops" when I apply the brakes coming to a full stop or sometimes after I stopped and accelerate, the seat back pops. It's intermittent and I'm afraid the dealership cannot replicate the problem when I take it in.

View 4 RepliesOkay so with my old Accent I had the same Magnaflow exhaust I have now on the Elantra. Sounds identical with one exception; When I'd down shift with my Accent I'd get some popping coming from the exhaust. I get no such sound with my current set-up. Now I know some people don't like it but I do.
So my question is simple... Would removing the resonator (assuming the Elantra's have one) or doing something else to the exhaust give me back my wonderful popping sound?
so my r32 recently started making a nasty popping noise. the sound seems to either be coming from something in the rear end or drive shaft. not sure why it happened. i went on a 2 hour trip. got there parked it. aired it down (bags) but then when i came back and when to drive it again. it all of a sudden it started making a horrible popping noise. i thought it was the front wheel bearing going out since i knew it need to be replaced but i did that today and its still making the noise.
The noise sound just like a RWD car with a welded diff when it turns. kinda has that locked rear end hop popping noise. i lifted the whole car off the ground and put it in first to let the tires spin in the air but of course theres no weight on them so it doesn't make any noise. i'm really stumped on what it could be. im going to take the driveshaft off and see if it still dose it. then i know its for sure in the rear end. What it could be?
2001 vr6 manual... I have a popping noise that comes from my suspension. it is in the front, and it has gradually gotten worse over the last month or so. It used to happen when i back out of my drive way only, but now it happens when accelerating from a stop, quickly braking or turning at low speeds. Recently its getting worse and i can start to feel it in my steering wheel sometimes. It doesn't feel like a wheel bearing. Is it bushings? Tie rod? CV Joints? Strut Mount?
View 2 RepliesMy 01 Excursion Limited 6.8L 2wd is having what I think is a tranny/shifting issue? Mileage is about 160K. She has been doing just fine and no recent work or out of the ordinary maintenance/replacements..
Got in her this morning to go and noticed that the tranny seemed different. First thing I noticed was that the shift form 1 to 2 was long in coming and then sort of hard / thump when it did change. Then is seems to rev higher in the rpm range than normal when going into 3rd maybe 4th.? I pulled over into a parking lot, turned it off and did a brief inspection of the underside, fluid, etc.. and did not find anything strange. Started her back up and went to leave when I heard a popping / thumping noise from the tranny. Threw it in neutral and reved the motor to see what it sounded like and it was good. Back in drive again and the noise was there. Seemed to go away after getting up to say 45/50mph but the shifts were still off. Took her back home and now trying to decide whats first on diagnosing this issue?
Alright, so about a month ago I was driving when I heard a terrible noise sounded like a pop can stuck between a bike tire coming from the front end. I figured this was the dreaded noise most folks hear when the 4wd system isn't getting enough vacuum.
It did this for about two days, even after replacing the IWE solenoid, then it just stopped and I haven't heard it since. Me being on the cautious side, I'm a bit worried. I haven't jacked the truck up, but I did (brace yourself) lay under it while my buddy drove slowly over, there was no unusual movement.
Question is, if I had to replace anything, what exactly would it be and how much am I looking at? My warranty will be up in about a month or so and Ford has been less than spectacular with repairs thus far so I'd like to go ahead and fix it myself
2005 Ford Taurus 3.0 engine. Only at idle has a popping noise out of throttle body. Found lots of people with same problem but no fixes.
I did find out noise goes away when unhook alternator wire and comes back when reattach. Found someone replaced there alternator and that didn't fix it either. I think its electrical?
I have a stick shift Camry 2004 with 160K miles on it and I hear a popping noise (not clicking cv joint noise) coming from the front left side . I hear the noise when I drive off from a stop regardless of whether I am turning or not but mostly when I release the clutch after changing gears on second and sometimes third gear. I was told by a mechanic and a ntb tires and a former toyota mechanic it had to be the struts.
I figured what the heck ordered new mounts and struts had and I installed them and had the car aligned. That did not solve the problem. My next guess was the engine mount by the transmission so i changed that and still no success. The former toyota mechanic told me he now thinks it's the transmission but I am skeptical. How to diagnose this? BTW 95 % sure the problem started when my wife hit the sidewalk really hard (so hard I had to change the rim).
Just recently noticed in the past 2 weeks, that after shutting off my Tuscon, about a minute or 2 later it makes a popping noise coming from the back. It almost sounds like a piece of metal when it expands.
View 6 RepliesSo I have a 2015 SE DSG. I'm getting the irritating popping noise, at no particular speed, coming from what sounds to be the middle/rear. It is lowered on H&R coilover, which I have checked over and over again to make sure everything is tight. It started about 500 miles ago, and the Coilovers have been on for about 6000 miles, the car just hit 7000 miles.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited. For the last three years or so I get a very loud cracking noise from the Radio, I can even turn it off and it continues or gets louder. I took it to the dealer, they think it is some of the speakers. Since are 12 speakers, not sure I want to start replacing them. I thought it might be the amplifier, took to an electronics guys. He took a lot of the car around the radio apart, we could never find the amplifier. I think the amplifier is in the trunk with the GPS Disk Player. If you were going to replace something, would be the radio, amplifier, or? The only way to stop it is to remove the fuse which causes the radio and GPS screen to not work.
View 3 RepliesAlmost every single time I put my .:R in reverse and the car starts moving I hear a popping noise with pauses in between each pop. I think it might be a ball joint and the noise is coming from the front passenger side.
