I noticed today when my Touareg is running but in park, each time I step on the brake I hear a loud clicking noise coming from the shifter. I assume the noise is the safety lock engaging and disengaging that allows you to put the car in gear while the brake pedal is pressed. I never noticed the noise before but usually I have the radio on. Is it normal to be able to hear this noise?
View 2 RepliesIt's been about 2 year almost. The shifter is difficult shifting from default position to Drive position. It's like there is some (plastic) obstacles on the way, right at the turning point. I have to force it to the drive position, and I hear the pretty loud clicking sound
Sometimes it also stuck in drive position (if I don't force it back), but will come back to default position in 10 seconds by itself. It is unlikely some external objects got into there I believe.
I have spilt some coke into my shifter and it dried. Now when I shift to Drive or back to Park it makes this crackling sound and sometimes gets stuck. How to take the P-R-N-D-S cover off so I can clean?

View 3 RepliesOK, I recently noticed a fairly loud clicking noise coming from the transmission (or the gear lever?) when you hit the brakes and again when you release them (only when at or near standstill). I'm pretty sure that it's the lock for the transmission so you can't start it without hitting the brake, etc., but I never heard it before. Should it be that loud? At first I thought it was my CD's in the console hitting the side when I was braking, but realized it does it when standing still and you can feel it in the shift lever. Maybe I'm overly paranoid, but I've never noticed this in any other car.

I know that about the Shift Lock Solenoid, but this clicking sound is loud. I have been told that this is normal. So, I thought if this is what 10th Gen owners here is experiencing the same.
When driving my car, my oem shifter makes a clicking noise going into gear. is there a way to get it to stop, other than getting a short throw?

It seems that my a/c, after a "flapper" was replaced, is clicking, ticking, and making all sorts of loud noises with the a/c on. Once the system is put above 74 degrees the knocking and noises go away. The noises seem to emit from directly behind the radio.

View 6 RepliesMy car engine is G4KD 2.0 L 2009, no shift interlocking mechanism installed (I don't have the small button near the gear box to release it) also I am able to shift from P to anything else while the car not turned on, and I can shift without the brake.
2 weeks ago, I started to hear click noise (I am not sure if it was there before, maybe it got louder) when I switch from P to R, and from N to D, my car is on 80000 Km and didn't replace the gear box oil (dealer said oil is fine).
Car run smoothly but I am curious why I have this click.
I'm teaching my cousin how to drive and today my car was put in park while the car was in motion. I'm not sure how fast we were going but it was at a parking lot. I'm going to guess at the most 10mph. The car came to halt with clicking noise, what kind of damage could this have possibly caused? She tells me she had her foot on the brake so I'm not sure if the halt came about due to brakes for because the car was in P.
View 14 RepliesThe other day I put my truck in park and it started to slowly roll, and while it did made a clicking noise from underneath, till it finally caught and stopped. About the same time, it would only start if I put the selector on N. This problem is not every time I start it maybe 30% of the time. It had been a few days since the rolling in park incident, but today I put the truck in part, it started rolling, again making a grinding noise, but it never stopped rolling. Had to use the E brake to get it to stay in place. On my drive home I turned the radio off and everything sounds good when shifting gears. If I have to start the truck with the selector in N no big deal, if I have to start using the E brake no big deal. But is this the start of some bigger transmission problem? My knowledge of vehicles only allows me to check the transmission fluid, and it was within the cross hatched lines.Truck is a 98 F-150, 6 cylinder, 60K miles. Not sure if I want to start putting large sums of money in this thing or consider an upgrade.

View 8 RepliesI've got my 2013 sonata and have noticed over the past couple weeks that after the car has sat for a while and I shift out of park that it makes a thunk/shifting sound that's coming from right below the car. I think it's coming from the gear shaft but I'm not a car expert so I can't be sure, it's more prevalent when I shift into reverse. What it could be? The car is still completely under warranty so I'm fine with making it the dealer's problem.
View 6 RepliesMy GMC Envoy is making a loud reviving sound upon start up and while driving getting louder the faster I go. It also makes this noise while in park. I have Manuel transmission however it almost sounds like the car is in need of shifting to another gear... I'm hoping it's not an expensive problem!! There is no engine light coming on alerting me to a problem. It's a very loud revving almost whining sound.

It doesn't make the clicking noise in any other gear only in park. Might be normal but I don't remember hearing it before?
View 9 RepliesMy wife bought a new 2010 Prius Hybrid. It has consistently achieved 51+ miles per gallon. She bought it in June-2010 and at the 7000 mile mark (October?) called me concerned about a noise it was making under the hood. She described it as akin to the noise a playing card made when as a child you fastened it to the spokes of a bicycle. Chattering? It lasted 15-30 seconds and went away, before engaging in reverse or forward. A trip to the dealership was fruitless, an "intermittent episode" the diagnosis.
Now, nothing since until today. Same noise again, 12,000 mile mark, goes away in same timeframe, in park. Only today, through the course of several errands, her dash MPG indicator reads 39 MPG. She is waiting as we speak in the dealer lobby as they plug into the computer hunting for fault codes, etc. Having issues, especially an indicated dropoff in MPG seemingly in conjunction with such a noise?
Well I have a loud clicking noise, mostly when the car is under load (pulling out, braking) at low speeds. First I thought it was the RSB but now it sounds like it's coming from the front of the car. I'm thinking it could be either motor mounts or tie rod. The car has 37K miles. I just can't seem to pinpoint where the noise is coming from yet.
View 24 RepliesI have 2 b6 passats. Both of them are rattle free except for this clicking noise that is all the time and loud from the glove box. It does it any time the car moves or hits a bump. If you put the slightest touch on the glove box, the noise stops. If you open the glove box, the noise is still there.
