Mar 23, 2009
In the display (front of steering wheel) I got a "KEY" symbol yesterday. What it means?

View 3 RepliesI just had my Treg in the shop for 4 days doing the hitch wiring recall. When I got it back, a small icon in the MFI (top left) is always on. It is the heated steering wheel off icon. When I turn on the heated steering wheel, it works and a green symbol appears in the middle of the MFI, but as soon as it is turned off, the other steering wheel icon shows up on the left side of the MFI. Is this normal? It didn't do this before taking it in, but they did a number of reprograms to get proper signals going to the trailer wiring.
View 24 RepliesHaving, apparently not uncommon problem of a misaligned steering wheel -- i.e., when the wheel is horizontal, the car drives left? Two dealers have told me that there is no alignment problem (and have given me the BS "crown of the road" explanation). Perhaps this is not an alignment issue, but there's no question that the wheel must be slightly turned to get the car to drive straight, which is at best a major annoyance.
View 5 RepliesI am still trying to make the darn thing work to no avail. There does not seem to be any sign of an on/off indicator. Never sure when I push the button if it is on or not and how many times do I push it.
View 17 RepliesI know there has been much talk about steering wheel shake between 70-80mph. I have the shakes at 70mph. But, I'm wondering why my service department (Boucher VW in WI) can't drive my car up to 70mph so they can feel the shake. The service manager said they absolutely cannot go over 65mph. So ofcourse they can't verify the shake and in turn won't balance my new front tires properly (VW replacements). Am I losing my mind here -- I can't have a car that doesn't shake at highway speeds? How to get them properly balanced through VW service?
View 4 RepliesMy steering wheel locked up on me after i parked it it now says steering defective workshop..... I can't start it nor change gears it does nothing...the battery in the remote is fine what do i do?
View 3 RepliesI'm on day three with my 05 venetian green and I can't quite smiling. Just a probably duh question. How can I tell the steering wheel heater is on? Does it stay on till?....Does it come back on after shut down and then restart or does it need to be selected again.
View 12 RepliesI get a rattle on lower speeds only and it seems is from the wheel mechanism, when I move the wheel when the car is at lower speeds in short movements quickly I think is the same rattle but when I move the wheel in higher speeds it seem that it gets tighter and no more rattle, it is very annoying..
View 6 RepliesMy base model has the button but no steering wheel heat. My logic says if they put the button in, they probably put the heat strip in, and it's just a matter of activating this feature..
View 22 RepliesWhen the "check your brakes" symbol comes on, it need to change all 4 rotors and pads? I have 52,000 miles on the T-reg. I'll probably order the parts from Alretta or from PAP.
View 2 RepliesI have about 1K miles on new steel springs V8 Touareg. In my dash, I have a yellow symbol that looks like a "slippery when wet" street warning sign....(minimally outlined body of T'reg with 2 squiggly lines under it), exactly in the spot for the ESP warning light (this is NOT a triangle with an open at the bottom circle around it). The symbol stays lit. I get nothing when I press my ESP button, other than it says ESP OFF. It suddenly came on this morning.
I looked through the whole manual. Nothing actually shows the console area that matches mine. The only console pictures are of the air=springs equipped models.
Nothing in the manual explains this exact symbol either.
My T-reg has the winter pkg with the heated steering wheel. Is there some kind of indication light that comes on that lets you know the heat is on , I can't see any indication ,and it seems dumb to not have one . Like having heated seats w/o a indicator light and having to wait till your butt heats up to see if they're on.
View 2 RepliesI've got the button for turning on the heated steering wheel, but I don't think that was an option I got. It doesn't seem to get warm. Is the button there even if you don't have the option? If mine is heated, is there an indicator to tell you its turned on?
View 5 RepliesWhenever i hit speeds between 65-75 mph my steering wheel starts to vibrate enough so i can see it and feel it. Not a crazy amount just enough so i can see it moving and can feel it. I have 14000 miles on my Touareg and just had the tires balanced at the dealer hoping that would be the problem..
View 14 RepliesI let a freind, Phaton owner, drive my Touareg this morning and he showed me that one can select band and channel from the control dial on the steering wheel. I can't seem to find details in my manual. Looking for operation details?

Having a problem with the steering wheel squeaking while you turn the wheel? It sounds like its rubbing against something. Any TSB on it...
View 3 RepliesThe noise I am talking about comes from near the steering wheel and sounds like a relay or switch turning itself on and off rapidly. I can not pinpoint why the clicking starts, but I believe I have figured out what the sounds is from.
Over the weekend while heading up snowboarding I turned on the rear defroster, and there the sound was. I then turned the rear defroster on and off rapidly and it replicated the clicking sound I hear periodically.
I will be contacting the dealer to see if they can resolve this annoying sound, now that I have found the source.
As we all know, you can toggle the steering wheel lights on and off. Just one question: Who uses this feature? Under what conditions?
View 5 RepliesHas this been the problem with the steering in the touaregs. No noise or anything. Just a slow leak. Will update after this Wed.Later
View 11 RepliesWhat is the button for that is behind the rest of the buttons on the right of the steering wheel? Its a little black dot?
View 3 RepliesWe purchase a left over 2005 V8 and upon driving home I notice the steering wheel shook at about 63mph and throgh 75mph. A tell tail sign of the front tires being out of balance. Hard to believe at 150 miles.
So when I brought it in for a dead battery and to fix some issues it had when we picked it up (so much for Perfect Delivery) of course they gave me crap about not being able to go that fast and typical BS.
I told them it wasn't normal and I'm not an idiot. Plus the speed limit is 70pmh in lots of places out here. Taking a ride with the tech of course they see it happen, and try some BS about it being common in 4WD, typical response instead of being upfront.
So they are going to re-balance all the tires, but my GF noticed a slight pull to the right so I'm going to have them align it too (love how dealers think I enjoy bringing it back in) but is there any issue with the Truck, something beyond the simple fix I think it is?
There's no way a wheel should shake like that, even though they said it was slight. My Z has 25,000 miles and I can't feel any shake, and I've never felt another AWD truck do that. I just want to make sure I couldn't find any balljoint issues or something.
