Touareg :: Installing XM Commander In The Ashtray Area
Aug 13, 2004
I am attempting to install an XM Commander in the ashtray area.
I have Spockat's wires and all the proper stuff, but then realized that I have never tried to pull apart the TReg to expose behind and underneath the console, ashtray and footwell area. There seem to be two main things:
There is a horizontal piece of plastic that runs the length of the side of the center console. At the footwell end of it there is a cut out piece that is locked back into place. I assume this somehow snaps out and allows you to pull off the plastic trim. How this piece removes?
Then just above the gas pedal there is an odd screw that holds the carpeting in place. It has three "holes" in it and it appears it takes a special screwdriver to remove it. Taking this out and pulling back the carpet seemingly would allow me access underneath and behind the center console area which is where I was wanting to place the brain.
I didn't want to start jerking and pulling on pieces hoping that they just "pop apart"...

Check brakes light came on at 46000 miles the other day. Not really sure what replacement brake rotors and pads to put on? Should I go with OEM or aftermarket? put on rotors and pads from Hawk? and how do you like them? Are aftermarket better than OEM parts?(longer lasting, less dust, ect..)

While I'm waiting for my new Touareg (a few weeks...), I'm asking if it's possible to install a DVD reader in the rear console (between the two front seats, useful for rear "children" passengers). I'm talking about this kind of DVD reader "all-in-one", with the 7" screen included (it folds inside when not in use). The size of the equipment is the standard A1 for Europe: 70 inch wide, 19.6 inch height and 73 inch deepth. Obviously, I'm thinking to install inserted in the rear console, below the air vents, in place of the controls for the 4 zone air conditioner that I didn't ordered.

I installed new wheels and the TPMs do not fit. Is there a simple way to turn off the TPM system? Or do I have to go to the dealer?

i just installed a low level adapter for a subwoofer in my Egg (non-vav). As i was reinserting the radio the hood indicator came on about 1" before "clicking" into place. I heard this could be a microsensor telling the alarm the radio is missing. I also had the interior lights shut on and off as i was working on to fix the problem.

I was unable to find any posts talking about using the radio's line out (non-amplified) signal to send to an aftermarket amp. Any links or info would be great as I plan on performing my install soon and I really want to avoid using a line output converter (on the radio's amplified outputs).

Just installed the smoked tail lights on my '07 Treg. Installation was very easy per the instructions on OEMplus. I did a great job from that standpoint.
Got one issue, I check the 'Check Lights" warning and I think its due to the fact I tested the lights before I had all the new ones installed and hooked up. Do I need to take it to the dealer to have something reset via a computer or will the check light go away with some driving, which is what the dealer said.

I need Vag-Com to reset a failed lamp warning light . . . I'm assuming because I ended up pulling the switch out too far, which commands the rear fog light to come on, which doesn't exist, I caused the "lamp failure" warning light and chime to come on and NOT GO OFF (I installed my new Euro headlight switch last night).
I checked and have no dead lamps. I put the old switch back in for a bit but it's still reporting a failed lamp. I searched for this problem before posting but the search engine on this site is extremely poor ... .Couldn't find anything in the manual either. It assumes we're idiots because it says a certified mechanic should change the lamps but oh, carry extras with you !!??

have a 2005 Reed Green V6 w/Equipment Package #1 (Includes Sound System I and Bi-Xenon Headlamps).
The only trouble I've had so far is a very low "clicking" coming from the front driver door speaker when the radio is on. Otherwise, I've enjoyed the vehicle a lot.I am also looking to install my IPOD so that I can play it through the radio...

My mother-in-law is having problems with her Jeep. It will shut itself off while she's driving it. It's intermittent, and of course, the mechanic can't find the problem when it's in the shop. She thinks it's because she might have switched to a poorer-quality gas, but she's had it at 3 repair shops, and no one can find the source of the problem. Only one mechanic has gotten it to malfunction for him, but he still can't figure out what's the problem.

I have a 2008 Jeep Commander that shut off while driving at any speed. Paid the dealer twice to research and all they can say it's the catalytic converter. If it was that it wouldn't start up every time it shuts off.. Let's start there first they say. My jeep shut off at any speed or just waiting for a red light to change. But dangerous because it will shut off with out a warning in the middle of making a turn. I have notified Chrysler but no answer to my problem.

My ashtray opened and now will not close. I can push it in but it opens again. This probably requires me to take it out and I am not sure how to remove the ashtray.

Why my ashtray light and the lights next to all four air vents are out. Cigarette lighter is working but the light around it is not??? Maybe a fuse or a bulb???

My 2007 Jeep Commander cut out while I was driving on a precarious mountain road in sub zero conditions. We live in a remote, wild, and frozen part of Idaho and I rely on my Jeep to get my children around this sparsely populated area, so when my Jeep "just stopped running" while I was driving it yesterday I was scared to death. I was able to restart it and immediately took it to a mechanic. He said he can't be sure, but his best guess would be that it needs a new Crank Sensor - but he can't guarantee that will be the solution. So I either take a chance and put in the new Crank Sensor or "spend a load of money on diagnostics". Car just cutting out while driving, what was the problem/solution?

I know this is a minor issue as problems go, but i put coins in my ash trays and just as i placed some coins in the driver ashtray i think one or two of them fell behind the tray and when I placed the tray closed, it closed and will not open. The more i pushed it the more it went in. How do I open this without damaging the wood.

You know that little storage compartment with the electric socket (looks like an ashtray), well all of a sudden today mine won't stay closed. I've had it get stuck closed, but never stuck open, how to know exactly where the hinge is? Could it be stuck in the closed position? Or is it a spring or something? I know I could take it to the dealer and have it fixed but I really don't have time to drop it there.

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander. Periodically, and quite inconsistently, all the lights on the dash board flash on and off while simultaneously all the gauges drop to zero and the air stops blowing out from the vents. My car will continue to drive and all lights work along with the radio. This has happened while driving at 75 mph on the highway and my car will continue on as if nothing has happened. I know this isn't good, but completely baffled by it all. I have taken it to a Jeep dealer and they only saw there was a weak reading from my battery, but the battery isn't even two years old so I have yet to replace it.
I'm including a video I took while stopped at a light so you will see the RPM's drop down, but since I wasn't moving the MPH remains at zero.

I have a tan 4-door 2006 Jeep Commander with a little over 100,000 miles. I recently had some work done to the rear end transmission. When I had hit the gas when going at high speeds, there was a loud vibrating noise coming from the bottom and rear of the vehicle, and when going downhill there was a loud whistling type of sound. Initially, my mechanic, who I've been going to for the last 8 years, looked at the vehicle and gave me a worst case scenario that the whole rear end might have to be replaced. He said it could cost a grand or more. The whole rear end did not have to be replaced. My mechanic did work on the car and fixed I don't know what on the rear end.
Before my mechanic gave me the car back he said there would be a slight whistling type sound when driving. And there is a whistling type sound, every time I hit the gas going about 20mph or more. Although my vehicle does drive and sound substantially better, this sound is driving me crazy when I'm driving. My mechanic said that there is nothing that can be done without replacing the whole rear end. Is this true? Can anything else be done to minimize or eliminate this whistling type sound?

I have a 2011 Santa Fe, I closed my ashtray the other day and now it won't open!!! It has change in it and I expect a coin has jammed it. The door will push in a little just like it normally would to open it but it won't pop open.

As stated in title, it stays open half way. I was thinking just converting it to none lid one since I always keep it open, and I believe the non closing one would hold more items?
