View 1 RepliesI picked up my Black V8 w/ Teak and all options yesterday evening and love the Touareg so much I can't stop playing with it. Funny, but I think the Nav is pretty good - and it seems like the latest software version has fixed many of the gripes on this forum. Of course I never had a nav system before, and I did see that the MDX's system is pretty snazzy. I read the manual carefully, but how to shut the radio or CD changer, but keep the Nav or Map screen displaying its goodies? Let's say I'm playing the radio and then want to switch to the Nav or Map but shut off the crap music. I couldn't figure it out, and ended up just lowering the volume.
View 18 RepliesMy turbos shut down intermittently, after several hours of highway driving and after shutting the ignition off. Upon re-start, the check engine light illuminates and I have no turbos. Letting the car sit (turned off) for several hours will re-set them back into operation. Three visits to the shop have not solved the problem and the technicians have no clues. I don't think the turbos themselves are to blame. More likely the computer is getting a signal from somewhere that is prompting it to set a trouble code and disable the turbos. Is this what is called "limp mode"?
View 6 RepliesWell, I will be taking the Touareg in for at least the 3rd time regarding this problem. The first time they told me it was a bad battery, so they replaced that. They also gave me a new battery last year, so I am on #3 now. I specifically asked if it was the alternator cable as my voltmeter had been reading anywhere between 12.5 and 14. They said it was just the battery but did keep it an extra night just to be sure the service manager could take a look at it to verify.
The second time I took it in they reset some electrical and reprogrammed some module...I don't have the ticket in front of me.... Again I asked about the alternator cable and again they told me now.
Well, for the past week or so the consumers have been shutting off almost daily. My wife normally drives the car but today I was out in it and it happened twice to me. It seems like it happens more so when it is cold, but I might just be crazy.
I am going to take it in. Is there anything else might be, other than an alternator cable. I truly love this car, and when I look at any other SUV, except Range Rover (can't afford one), I fully believe that the Touareg is better in every aspect, with fit and finish better than any other. This electric consumer thing is starting to get a little obnoxious though.
I garage, but on two occasions, once left out overnight, other at the airport for a week, the side windows were frozen shut. After the Treg warmed up, they would open, but seemed to be frozen at the bottom weatherstrip. Are others having this problem? I love this truck !

My 2015 Touareg 3.6 VR6 FSI makes a strange sound when shut off ever since new, it is a 3.6 VR6 FSI, just engine make the same sound when shut off?

Last night I was driving home in 12degree weather and I get a warning that said "Electronic consumers are being shut off" What is this and what happened? I checked the owners manual and cant find anything about it.

How to shut off all the "babysitter noises" a Treg makes when the lights are left on while parked, or when the door is open while car is running, seatbelt is not clicked while parked etc.
View 2 RepliesMy wife has a 2006 Touareg V6.
Noticed a coolant leak a week ago, refilled with coolant, and as of today the coolant warning has not come back, so whatever it is must be a very slow leak. Today I took the opportunity with the unseasonable warmth in Chicagoland to investigate.
Got the T-reg up on jacks and belly pan removed, ran the engine while inspecting the bay, didn't see anything.
After I shut the engine off, however, I noticed a small but somewhat steady dripping coming from roughly the middle of the front of the engine block.
Pulled the plastic cover off one of the pulleys, part # reads: 022 121 341. I couldn't find a match anywhere online, but I got tons of results for 022 121 011, which is the water pump.
Last night I drove to pick up my wife from work, well I got to the place and put the Touareg in park and shutdown the engine. The light switch was in Auto as it was getting dark and the lights had come on while I was enroute.
When I shut down the engine the interior lights stayed on, as well as the taillights I noticed. I sat in the car waiting for 10-15 minutes listening to the radio with the interior lights on. Was I draining my battery? Should I not do this in the future by switching the light switch to off from auto?
Well I noticed the fans are running at shutdown, then next day check engine light plus the jack light which I was able to turn off. I have had the same symptoms several months ago and they went away. Now its back.

Recently, the oil light / shut engine off light came on, and during deceleration, an odd chirping noise was heard.
Oil level is fine. Previous owner claims to have had it changed every 6k with full synthetic. What the culprit might be?
I have a 2005 with V6 and 55,000 miles. For over the last year I have had a problem where if you start the car and then shut it off before it fully warms up it will be very hard to restart and barely run till you get it out and run it on the highway for awhile. First noticed this when starting car to back out of driveway to get into attic. Went to restart to put back in garage and car would hardly start. Had to dealer a couple of times and they said you should warm car up before using. That sounds good but is not practical and car never had this problem when new.
View 4 RepliesBelieve an engine temperature sensor is bad. I took it in to get a code read, and they said it could be either temp sensor or fan switch, but didn't know which one without newer software.
Codes are
19537 - Engine Temperate too Low
P3081 - 008 - Implausible Signal
I've checked the fuse legend to see if there is a fuse I can pull, but none of them marked fan seem to kill it after the car is off, so that I can save some battery power.
I believe that I have narrowed it down to the engine coolant temperature sensor. What is the level of job this is to replace? From a parts location manual, it looks like it is in the Thermostat housing, but I'm not sure where that is.
-1 (-20 wind chill) here in South Bend this morning, and the Touareg did not like it. All but the drivers door frozen shut. All power windows frozen shut. Defective tyre warning went off once, and then check tyre pressure has stayed on. Wonder what She would do to me if She was not in a garage. The heated seats worked great, how I would have loved to have the heated steering wheel this morning.
This weather is heading East, hope you all on the coast are ready.
At least 3 times in the last 8 months of ownership I have shut the rear door on the passenger side and the car locked it's doors and armed the alarm.
View 7 RepliesThe drivers side rear door on our 2004 T'reg is stuck shut. Neither the interior or exterior door handle will open the door. I tried locking/unlocking it a few times, both with the remote and with the interior button. Is this a simple fix, or is it off to the dealership with me?
View 2 RepliesThe prius just shut down on me while I was driving. I just read that the glitch causes the hybrid system to overheat and shut off.
View 16 RepliesI was driving at about 60mph in 4th gear and knocked it into 2nd and the rpm's hit the max and the car shut off and I have not been able to get it started. I have compression, fuel, and spark . I've checked oil and don't have any coolant in and nor did I have any oil in my coolant. When I try to start it it try's to start but won't turn over so .
View 12 RepliesYesterday, I was driving from PA to THE (beaches), about a 2 1/2 hour drive. The car was running fine the whole time, no problems. I get to about the last 15min of the drive where the highway ends and it enters the town with stop lights. I get to the first stop light and stop of course and while I am sitting there my car just shut down. Everything just went right off, Headlights, gauges, radio, I mean everything. It wasnt like a stall, It was the weirdest thing as if I just removed the key really fast. Everything was reset when I turned it back on, Clock went back to 12, Headunit went back to standard settings, and I lost my awesome 24.8mpg I have been working on! After the light turned green I turned the car back on and drove into a parking lot to see if the battery was ok. Everything in the engine seemed good it sounded fine, and the battery was hooked up all tight.
Anyway It freaked me out the rest of the way and tomorrow when I leave I am a little nervous. That could be pretty terrifying if it happened while I was moving, especially at night time. Something I should check or bring to a dealer to get looked at. I am not throwing a check engine light or anything. The car has been starting up fine everyday for the past 2 months. Prior to that the car sat in a garage for about two months (being turned on and moved around every week or so)
Mods (engine or electrical): If this is necessary
-Intake
-Short Shifter
-Double Din (with Nav)
-Flapper Mod (on Switch)
-Helix Headlights with HID drop ins
-Air horns
-All of these mods have been on the car for at least a year
Most recent mod was a skid plate which I have been hitting a lot of things with but I dont see how that could in any way affect this..
