I have set the system up in the center info display (by checking the tailgate) to unlock the tailgate (and all doors) with the key remote. Once the tailgate is unlocked and opened you can't close it without it relocking, forcing you to hit the key again or opening the drivers door and activating the remote there. I know this issue seems minor, but its kind of a hassle when you have gear, groceries and a toddler...
View 7 RepliesI'm having some problems with my tailgate (boot) handle. At the moment the boot 'intermittently' works with the central locking. If it doesn't unlock then I have to use the keyfob to open/close a few times before the handle opens the boot. Fortunately it works every time with the key. I must stress that I've never used the key in the boot. The boot lock is set to work with the opening/closing of the central locking. So this problem is NOT user error.
I have posted some pictures of the problem I've now seen with the mechanism. Ok so in the above picture, you can see that I've put a black arrow pointing at the 'latch' in it's correct position.
When you operate the central locking via the keyfob (or inside the car), it pushes the electrical popper (to the left) which rotates the mechanism CLOCKWISE, and in doing so, it pushes the LATCH across so that it can connect with the boot handle
In the following picture, you can see how the 'LATCH' isn't moving across to the position in the first pic. This is why my boot can't open with the central locking.
I must make clear that the electric popper is doing the job as it should. There is nothing wrong with it's function. The problem is the latch is not rotating (clockwise) into it's correct position. It can be moved by hand easily.
The problem could be solved by attaching a spring to the latch, so it pulls downwards. But I cannot understand why or what has stopped it from working as it should. The latch moves fine if you use the key in the lock, so at the moment, the only way to make it open is either open/close the central locking 10times, or use the car key.......
Last week I had to replace my tailgate handle while in the middle of moving. It was nice that it was easy, but it was a major hassle in the middle of a move! In light of having to do this, I was wondering if there are locking handles available, and if so what might you recommend?

Is there supposed to be a separate key for the factory tailgate lock? I tried the ignition/door key but it doesn't seem to work.

Well the tailgate of my Touareg doesn't open all the way up. I took my car to College Park VW and they did not even fix the tailgate, saying that its originally like that... So they brought out another Touareg and opened the tailgate...it opened all the way...and they still tried to find fault with our car. Why the tailgate doesn't open up all the way?

View 6 RepliesWas picking up some pumpkins with my wife on Sat. Loading the rear up. Pop from overhead and the tailgate comes crashing down on my head. Seems that one of the struts let go.
Im also having issues with the little plastic bits on the seat rails flying off. they catch my pant leg and get pulled off. Im also having some wicked wind noise from the rack. almost a drumming noise. such are the joys of owning a 50,000$ VW.

I'd like to turn the auto locking 'feature' off. By this I mean the doors locking at 7MPH.
I'm a long-time VAG-COM user, and have performed this operation on a couple of previous vehicles, but the Central Locking controller isn't accessible on this car.
VCDS reports 'no response from controller' after three attempts.
And the vacuum pump was replaced.
View 7 RepliesI have an '08 Touareg. The automatic door motor on the rear tailgate is having an issue. It closes with no problem when you push the button. However, when you try to open it, the door opens about half way and then cuts out. It is rather difficult to open the door manually. Is it a motor issue, or just a fuse or relay issue?

View 3 RepliesI just recently purchased a 2000 Excursion and had some questions up in another thread. After doing some diagnosing....I have a couple of questions about the auto locking hubs. The problem I have is that even with the vacuum line disconnected from the knuckle and no vacuum...the hubs won't unlock in auto/2wd. I confirmed that the knuckle and the hubs will hold vacuum when I hooked my vacuum pump up to it and it held vacuum (the fitting should be clear as I heard the hub making some sounds). I'm getting ready to pull the hubs to clean and re-grease them. My question is that being they are still locked....will it be any harder to pull them off the spindle and after disassembling them/cleaning them.....when I re-install them....will they be unlocked by default after putting them back on the spline as they have been pulled apart and reassembled?

View 3 RepliesI got new auto-locking hubs. The updated ones. As I proceeded to replace them, I pulled out old ones and when driver side came out, there was like 1/2 ounce of water that flowed out from where the auto-locking hub would sit. Strange. I had changed out lines, vacuum pump, vacuum solenoid and reservoir. All new and dry. I blasted both sides down with brake cleaner to clean off old grease, let dry and installed new auto hubs. So far so good. Will test the ESOF feature another time. I was wondering where this water would come from? Other side of wheel hubs are dry.
View 2 RepliesMy hubs will not lock when put into 4x4. I disconnected all lines from the solenoid to both hubs and tested them for leaks... All good there. I put a gauge on the lines at both hubs one at a time while the other is still connected and get no reading when switched into 4x4. I checked for vacuum right out of the solenoid, and I get 2inHg when switched into 4x.
The vacuum pump kicks on every time I start the truck, even if I just shut it off and re-start right away. There is no delay when switching my ac/heater controls to different settings or vent locations. So I know there is vacuum. How much vacuum I should be getting out of the solenoid to the hubs?

I'm trying to figure out why my auto locking hubs do not engage. To isolate the problem shouldn't the hub engage if a vacuum is applied to that hub only? A solid 18 inHg is maintained at that hub for over 10 minutes but the selector will not rotate, which suggests to me the seals are OK. What then might be the problem?
View 13 RepliesI just replaced the ball joints on my 02 excursion and I can't get the locking hubs to seat far enough in so that the retaining ring keeps them in place. The ring seats but then works out as I'm driving. There is something keeping the hub from sliding in far enough so that the ring/clip can set deep enough in its groove. What's causing that? Its happening on both sides.
