Touareg :: How To Change Oil
Dec 21, 2003
How hard is it to change the oil in the V8? Any special tools etc? Where is the filter? How much oil does it take? Also, I read somewhere that the Touaregs come with synthetic oil from the factory? I am already looking forward to my first oil change at about 3,000 miles.

Took my Touareg to Prestige VW in Pleasantville, NY. Dropped it off last night for the first oil change, quoted $95. Went to pick it up today, and it wouldn't start. I am not sure what the voltmeter read. No service staff was available, and I am not sure that the people there knew how to jump it, plus my wife is 8 mos pregnant, didn't want to get her stranded, so I left it there.

This has nothing to do with cost of an oil change or what is the best oil to use. My question is what would you do in this situation and will my choice impact my warranty? I will be taking a trip in the fall and will likely be about 1200 miles from home when my Treg reaches 5000 miles (first oil change as per the manual). Do I go to the local dealer where I will be and get it changed or do I wait until I return to my home and local dealer with about 6200 miles showing on the beast?

What I'm looking for is a way to re-orient the screen so that north is always facing up on the screen. Right now it changes direction depending on which way I am traveling. I looked at all of the menu items and can't seem to figure it out.

I notice i need to have the nav unit on the "RADIO" tab to change stations with the FM1 and FM2.
however, if i have the nav unit on the "MAP" tab, and want to change stations, i need to switch back to the "RADIO" tab and make the switch.
Isn't there an easier way to swap between radio stations without needing to go back into the "RADIO" tab? for example if you play with the knob on the steering wheel, it flips through some already pre-assigned stations that the radio takes on when the unit is turned on. of course none of these are the my presets.

I have an 08' Touareg and for the life me could not figure out how to get the headlight units out for bulb replacement. I have racked my brain with the instructions that are found on CT, Vortex and wiki. (could not find pictures on what tool everyone is talking about and or where the release nut or screw is.
There is a hex socket located on the light unit but after a lot of turning I found it adjusted my High beam.
They just did not make sense for what I had found under the hood. My tool kit in the back does not have a tool that fits anything remotely on the headlight unit. I also tried removing the air filter housing to get to the back of the light and had no luck without breaking something.
After all turning , twisting, moving and adjusting. I decided to go the route of the wheel well for the passenger side. less than 15 minutes, 4 screws and a retaining nut and I was in with all access to the back of the light unit, changed the lamp and closed it up. As for the drivers side less than 5 minutes and it is all done.
I installed Silverstar Ultra and like how much more light is distributed directly in front of the car. The one lamp that indicated I needed to change (yellowish color compared to the other) actually had a bubble in the side of it as if it was almost melted through.
If there are pictures of how to get the unit out on the 08' I would love to see them, the tool, where and how it gets released.

Is there a DIY for changing the two engine air filters on the V8? I have done searches and looked in the DIY area. Seems simple but can't get the housing cover in a position that allows the element to be removed.

My wife called me from the dealer and they said they wanted to change the spark plugs at 40,000 mi.??? Is this really necessary?
My M5 recommended interval was 50,000 Miles Seems really low to me Regardless of what the manual says any either way?

I know the instructions are somewhere, but I am having trouble figuring out how to change the headlamp bulbs (high & low beams) on the easy side-driver side. Do I need to loosen the headlamp assembly or can I just go into the headlamp assembly without removing it?

Whilst driving unloaded, I mean the car is not under load, in say 5th gear , if I go to increase acceleration I often get a sudden unsmooth change to 4th. The change is not the normal smooth change down but a very abrupt clunk back to the lower gear. This is intermittent and hard to demonstrate to the dealer for repair.

Change the oil on my V6 2005 Touareg and noticed a slightly reddish color. Oil not burn.
Car was park a dealer for more than three weeks while they replaced the A/C.
My touareg never needs extra oil between changes and does not burn the oil. All temperatures are normal at 100 degrees weather.
What would cause the oil to get that reddish color?

I've read the manual many times...and I know it was this way too in a previous Passat I had. On a V10, can the steering wheel radio controls be made to change 'preset radio stations' instead of scanning to the next higher/lower station???

Okay, so after 42k miles, I had to bite the bullet 4 months before my lease is up and put yet another set of tires on my T2. Done today at reputable shop, and the TPMS is not yet registering the monitors on all four wheels. Driven about 8 miles since and they are still not registering. The indicator light is flashing for 60 seconds to indicate no signal. Should this rectify itself with some driving, as other systems on the Treg do, or is it something else. They were working immediately prior to them mounting the new tires.

I had my oil changed at 40,000. I am at 42,500 right now . My " change oil soon light " . Seem like a little soon ! Plus I am 5 hours from home on a ski trip. I have checked oil level it fine. Will I be fine to drive it home 5 hours back to my local dealership for oil change? Or should I find a place up here? What would cause the light to come on so soon ? I am new to this truck . My old 7.3 did not have all the BS that this truck has .

Circumstances required me to make an emergency trip to Phoenix this week. On the way down, I first got the "Oil change soon" warning, followed by the "Oil change required" message a few hundred miles later.
I religiously keep my truck serviced on time, and have never had either of these warnings come up before. My truck had 2700 miles on it since last service was done when this first warning came up. My truck gets very little idle time, so it's not sitting idling for hours a day.
My question is, is this oil change message a result of an actual oil monitoring sensor that measures oil quality on-the-fly, or is it strictly based on a miles or odometer timer that gets reset when dealer changes the oil?
At this point I'm wondering if the kid that serviced my truck either forgot to reset a timer, or worse, just "pencil whipped" my oil change. I have to call my home dealer back, since the service manager wasn't in yet when I called.

I'm getting ready to do my first oil change on my 20011 Camry. I've always had trucks and my other vehicle in a 94 Land Cruiser that is 5" higher than stock. What is the best way to get under the Camry to change the oil and filter?

I do have a 5th gen but it's a 5-speed. I'm just wondering, why did Toyota go back to the A140E auto tranny for the 6th gen celicas after switching to the A241E for the 5th gens (talking about the 5SFE's)? Did the 241 have some unforeseen problems or was less reliable? Or was it just more expensive to produce, since it appears to have been developed for the supercharged 1st gen mr2? Maybe they switched back for greater commonality with the Camry?
