View 1 RepliesI need Vag-Com to reset a failed lamp warning light . . . I'm assuming because I ended up pulling the switch out too far, which commands the rear fog light to come on, which doesn't exist, I caused the "lamp failure" warning light and chime to come on and NOT GO OFF (I installed my new Euro headlight switch last night).
I checked and have no dead lamps. I put the old switch back in for a bit but it's still reporting a failed lamp. I searched for this problem before posting but the search engine on this site is extremely poor ... .Couldn't find anything in the manual either. It assumes we're idiots because it says a certified mechanic should change the lamps but oh, carry extras with you !!??
Last night we went to look at some Christmas lights in a drive through park. There was a sign in the beginning of the park that said "Headlights off please." This seems to be impossible on the Touareg. I turned the headlight switch to off but the daytime running lights stayed on. After calling my salesman at VW, he asked many service techs how to do this and they have never been approached with such a question. They were stumped. The salesman told me that I can shut the daytime running lights off by depressing the emergency brake but that doesn't even work. The lights still remain on. Is there a way to shut the headlights off?
View 24 RepliesSo my headlight switch is literally On/Off. I disabled the DRL by folding down the pin inside. But I am replacing my headlights with a custom projector housing with HID lows, halogen highs, LED Fogs, and CCFL halos, so I'd like the ability to turn on just parking lights or just the fog lights to show off the Halos etc. If I pick up a Bora Switch that has these features, will I have to re-wire/run through fuse box, etc.
View 7 RepliesOn my 09 Camry LE most of the time at least once or twice when driving at night with the headlights in AUTO mode if you go to hit the turn signals to switch lanes or make a turn the switch will change to either the off position or on position. This is especially annoying as if you do not realize the headlights are on you can park and leave them on draining your battery.
I have driven plenty (hundreds) of Gen 6 Camry's and have never experienced this. My Corolla switch has never so much as hinted at moving although it only stays in the off position since DRL are always active but anyway. If I am going to replace the switch might as well opt for the XLE/SE switch for my fog upgrade.
How do you remove the headlight switch on a 2008 Passat B6? i tried pushing it in and turning it right, but i still cant pull the switch out. Am I doing something wrong, or does it not come out on this model?
View 6 RepliesI've started retrofitting foglights into my mother's 2012 Tiguan (S 4motion). All of the parts were dealer ordered, but twice now they've sent me the wrong switch. The mounting/locking mechanism is the wrong size (too large on the new switches). In addition, the second switch had an "auto" selection.
The original part number was 3C8941431F C1F-T shown on the left here:
The two part numbers they have shipped so far are:
3C8-941-431-G-XSH and 3C8-941-431-E-XSH
I need a standard headlight switch, no auto, with fog (front only is fine).
...while I didn't get the light sensor installed (since I actually use my cuppyhole to store my grarage door opener & EZ-Pass transponder0...
kept the Auto switch in...
with the DRL's activated (they are in the fog light position):
Off: DRLs
Auto: full lighting on
Parking: DRLs (plus I can use rear fog)
Low beam: full lighting (plus front & rear fogs)
and since activating the coming home and leaving home... the coming home works on "auto" position.
I suppose it could be unrelated but yesterday i was showing my coworker how easy it was to remove the headlight switch on my 2010 golf tdi (he has an a3). I took it out of the slot, unplugged it, plugged it back in, and slid it back into place. im sure i didnt yank on the wiring harness but who knows. I went to turn on my car and now i have an airbag fault showing up for the driver seat position sensor. I looked under the seat and everything is still plugged in, along with in the little access panel where the wiring goes.

I tried to reset it but it comes right back on.
I noticed that there is no parking light position on the headlight switch, so how does the headlight switch work? Either all OFF or all on? Or is the on position really "auto"
View 10 RepliesI just bought a Euro Headlight switch from ECS, it doesn't turn off the day time running lights, they come on when I release the e-brake just like the oem switch allows..
View 7 RepliesHeadlight switch failure. '12 SEL with factory HID. While in the "Auto" mode during broad daylight, headlights will start to flash on and off. VAGCOM revealed a fault code to the headlight switch. Dealer has already replaced it once and it started again within a few days.
View 6 RepliesAbout 11pm 2 nights ago on our way to Florida, hit a nasty bump on I-95 in SC and there went the fuse to the tail lights and dash lights (#17 I believe). Obviously something shook loose from the jarring of that bump and blew the fuse. I've blown this fuse before, but I thought it was due to a cracked LR tail light assembly holding water, which was replaced last weekend.
Now I replace the fuse, and as soon as I hit the headlight switch...it blows again. Holding my breath running around FL at night until the man pulls me over for no tail lights. So far, here's what work has been done:
- Replaced entire LR tail light assembly with new one, new bulbs, new bulb plugs - Sprayed electrical cleaner all over harness plugs, and used electrical grease to hook it back up
- Sprayed electrical cleaner into both trailer plugs
- Did replace both batteries last weekend - noticed on the drivers side battery appears to be some relays next to the battery on the fenders - one appeared to be beat up probably due to prior battery replacements - no clue what they do
I am at a total loss. Worse fear is I can't figure this out and I have to turn it over to the dealership
I went test drove a R32 today and I noticed when the headlight switch is in the off position, the HID came on when I release the hand brake, is this normal? I thought the DRL suppose to be the inner two halogen lights not the HID. This way, having a switch is kinda pointless except to turn on/off the the instrumental lights because you have the HID on whenever you release the parking brake, doesn't matter if the switch is in the off position or the on/lowbeam position.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2007 F150 XL that has the power windows and locks, I have the sensor on the dash for the auto headlights so I'm curious if I just need the auto headlight switch for this to work on my truck. I need to remove the headlight switch so I can try to connect the DB/OG and the DB/WH wires to see if this will make the circuit complete for the auto headlights. Anyway, I don't have a manual. How to remove the switch so I can get at the wires?
View 3 RepliesJust bought a used 2003 Dodge Neon SXT for my daughter. The car didn't pass inspection because the fog lights didn't turn off unless I turned the headlight switch completely off. I ordered a new switch w/ fog light from Napa, disconnected the negative cable, removed switch assembly, removed the wiper switch and installed on new headlight switch hooked up harnesses and reinstalled. I was so happy to find the fog lights now turned off.....until I took the car for a ride and found my turn signals and hazards not working......
Repeated the disassembly process making sure harness was completely seated, it was, took assembly back out, looked over the harness, all appeared good, hooked up just the old headlight switch (left windshield wiper switch on the assembly, did not plug in) and hazards now flashed but no turn signal. Reinstalled the new one again still no turn or hazards....thoroughly aggravated I walked away at this point. Am I missing something? The turn signal fuse is the same as the power mirrors, mirrors are working.
I recently purchased an '01 Prius that needed work. I was driving it last night, and noticed that the dash does not light around the heater controls or radio. The whole center dash area does not light with the headlight switch.
I took a look through the owners manual for any fuse that might control this, but did not find any. I would not think that all of the bulbs would be burned out.
I recently installed a new car stereo in my 05 CRV to replace the factory unit which had a broken CD player. Everything appeared to go fine, but I noticed at night that when the Head Light switch was turned on, only the top half of the dash lights would turn on, the lights for the AC/Heater failed to light, and the PRNDD1D2 lights which work fine in the day (sans the drive light not working, but that's been the case for a year now) would turn off. I've checked the fuses and found no blown ones, although the fact that the top half of the dash lights still turn on made a blown fuse seem less likely.
The lights that are left on will still dim/brighten when the dimmer knob is turned, and I noticed that if I pull the small lights fuse the dash lights don't work, but the PRNDD1D2 lights remain lit even with the headlights on. I've tried removing and re installing the factory stereo to see if there was a short in the new wiring harness, but that changed nothing. As is the car is still drivable, as the top half of the dash lights is enough to make all the gauges readable, but it's still a bit annoying. Any clues as to what I've done, and is there a reasonably cheap fix to the problem?
My '99 truck doesn't have fog lights installed, but the headlight switch pulls out. Is there a way to add fog lights and have the headlight switch activate them? Is there something pre-wired, yet untapped? I don't want to start adding extra switches.
View 1 RepliesThe illumination for my headlight switch and my shift-on-the-fly switch is not working. How do I replace the bulbs?
View 1 RepliesWhen you turn the headlight switch to the headlight on position, you can pull it out exhibiting a positive click as if it is an additional switch for maybe optional fog lights. If the headlight switch is in the off or running lights only position, this will not pull out. I reviewed the elect. diagram but it does not show and addition circuit for the pull switch functionality?
