Lately every time I get into my 2004 V8 I get the warning check headlight range control. How to fix this or does this require a visit to the dealer?

View 1 RepliesIt is a fairly new vehicle, Touareg SN 42xxx. It has two problems, which might be inter-related, both of which have defied all the repair attempts of a very competent and concerned dealership.
First problem: The warning message "Headlight Range Control" keeps on appearing. Much work has been done to try and fix this: Alignment of lights checked, suspension level sensors checked, vehicle inspected for damaged wires, etc. Later on in the process, both headlight assemblies and the instrument cluster were replaced. The message still appears.
Second problem: This is really minor, I only mention it because it might be related to the first problem. The instrument cluster trip computer (MFA) will not store accumulated mileage over a series of trips. In other words, if the car is stopped and started a few times, the trip computer will zero out.
As the subject states, I got the MFT message: 'CHECK HEADLIGHT RANGE CONTROL'
Battery gauge = 14 solid
All other guages normal
Received the MFI message "Check headlight range control"?
I have a 2004 V8 and the automatic leveling feature seems to be working correctly. If I stand in front of the vehicle, it appears that the headlights level themselves when the ignition is turned on.
I have noticed a couple times while driving at night that the headlights did not appear to be shinning down the road as far as they have been during other trips, so I'm thinking the problems could be related.
1. What is the procedure in doing a basic setting for the xenon headlights ('04), what group (i.e. 001, 002 etc.)
2. How come I cannot delete/erase the DTC or error code (Headlight is not adjusted/MIL on, no basic setting.
I have a 05 V8. I have had in it 3 times in the last month for a bad headlight which was finally fixed now this error message popped up yesterday.
By the right I will not be taking my VW back to the dealer...
My friend got an 04 treg v6 and has that warning up on the cluster. How I can fix this? And does my vagcom cable for a mk4 work on a toureg, or is this canbus?
View 3 RepliesMy 2010 Subaru Outback recently surprised the hell out of me by simultaneously turning on the brake warning light, the traction control light, the check engine light and (just for a bonus!) disabled my cruise control while flashing the cruise control light. I pulled over, quickly surmising that all of those systems could not have failed at 70 MPH without instantaneous death to either me or the vehicle. Both apparently still being alive, I tried turning the car on an off to reset the lights. No go. Subaru was not going to miss this chance to get me to the dealership! (who I had avoided to this point!) As I was far away from home and the car being very healthy, it seemed, I decided to drive on. I proceeded to put a couple of hundred more miles on the car before I got back to town.
My car had 39,000 miles on it, 3,000 miles beyond the warranty end. I learned that I have an error code of P0171, "Fuel Trim Malfunction (Air/Fuel too lean)". So I guess I'm wondering about a few things...why would this sensor set off every light on my dashboard and disable my cruise control? Seems a bit overblown for running a bit lean. My gut tells me Subaru has a sensor/software problem they are not owning up to. I'm a big fan of conspiracy theories and this really smells like one...
Second, jeez, I'm only 3K miles over warranty, don't you think they'd cut me some slack. I mean I love my Subaru, or did anyway, until this happened. Now it's just another POS car that breaks for no apparent reason...
I just received a check headlight signal on the dash. I did a visual check and it was the passenger high discharge lamp. I thought i saw a post on here one time at how to trouble shoot this or even change the lamp.
View 7 RepliesMy passenger side HL occasionally doesn't come alive at ignition when the light control dial/switch is set on Auto mode. My dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
View 3 RepliesI took my Touareg in for an oil change. When the tech lifted it up, he called me and pointed our a bushing on the lower control arm which was leaking oil or some fluid. I touched it and it seemed like oil of some sort. It was like black or something near that color. He told me that maybe it was some kind of a hydraulic bushing and the seal had gone bad. The oil was not coming from anywhere else, but the bottom of the bushing.
I took it in to service and the tech couldn't really explain where the oil was coming from, but told me that that bushing did not have any type of fluid in it. While I had the Touareg in, the air suspension compressor finally got replaced. I feel like I'm actually driving a luxury car now. It feels so much nicer! That immediately got rid of most of my cabin rattles. Boy, was my ride bad before. That was in "comfort". I can't begin to describe how horrible it was in sport.
They replaced the dual horn, because mine went bad. They also replaced the wood trim on the driver side door. They kept ordering the wrong color. My original Myrtle was almost chocolate in color. The ones that they get now are much lighter. Just about all my wood has now been changed. The only problem now is that for some reason or another, the headlight washer isn't working. I'm wondering if they disconnected a plug while working on the horn.
So, after about a year, I've finally got just about everything done. Now all I need are new tires and an alignment. Speaking of alignments, I've noticed that my Touareg is the only vehicle I've ever driven that will continue to drive in a circle with the wheels turned, even when you let go of the wheel... while going forward. In other words, if you turn the wheel enough and accelerate, the wheel will tend to turn further until it locks. Other cars will straighten out as soon as you release the wheel, if you are going forward (not in reverse). Ok, there are 3 questions on this post: The deal with the bushing, the deal with the headlight washer and the deal with the wheel that doesn't straighten itself out.
I was driving to work this morning & all of a sudden, I get a warning light saying "check gas cap". Got off the car & tighten the cap & the message is still there. Is there a switch to reset the warning or should I just replace the cap?
View 2 RepliesI washed the Touareg this weekend and when I got in to go to work this morning the "check brake pad" warning came on. It was quite cold after the car wash and the vehicle sat for 12 hours. Could the washing then sitting in the cold have something to do with this warning?

Went out to my car at lunch today and the "Check Brake Lights" warning came on. I checked the lights and my top center brake light is out. No fuses are burned out.
My t-reg just show me "Check Lights" and I had check all the lights and can't find anything wrong with them... is this a common problem? All the lights and brake lights seems to work fine.
View 10 RepliesThree days ago I get a check Brake pad warning in the MFD. I checked the fluid and it was fine. Since the all the pads look good could it be a bad sensor?
2004 T-Reg Campy White....
Last night I had this happen to me on my V6.

No major problem, just had the warning appear but lights seemed to work normally. I could reproduce the problem once and then it stopped. What is the cause/solution identified by VW?
Got a check brake light warning in the display today, I assume one on the brake lights are out and need to be changed. Is this a simple plug and play change, and are the brake lights in the tailgate or rear quarters.
View 1 RepliesI am getting occasional "check lights" warnings in my 2006 V8. I just exited warranty but complained several times of these warnings during the warranty period. Unfortunately, the dealer never found anything (and I am too busy to go into the dealer while the code is still in the system).
What it might be? I haven't ever actually seen a light out or anything, everything *appears* to be working. I even had both xenon bulbs replaced under warranty because they said that the bulbs in the first run of 2006 tregs were flagged for recall and they speculated that might be the cause of the warnings.
Lately, I am getting the uncomfortable "beep" and a "Check brake lights" message every time I get cough in a traffic jam and guess what: I checked the break lights and everything is OK. It took me sometime to be able to check the lights when the fault is on because usually it disappears after 30 seconds or so. Off course, when I take it to the dealer we cannot reproduce the problem (is not every time I break, is only when a break a lot of times in a short period of time looks like something is overheating) . The beep is driving me crazy!
View 9 RepliesJust installed the smoked tail lights on my '07 Treg. Installation was very easy per the instructions on OEMplus. I did a great job from that standpoint.
Got one issue, I check the 'Check Lights" warning and I think its due to the fact I tested the lights before I had all the new ones installed and hooked up. Do I need to take it to the dealer to have something reset via a computer or will the check light go away with some driving, which is what the dealer said.
